Hey /out/ what kayak should I get?
Lake river or ocean?
Experience level?
Height and weight?
Desired distance/trip time?

Multisport, dedicated fishing 'yak, fuckaround toy, or touring?
Going to japan and hong kong. Anyone know of some good day hikes that are easy to get to by public transport?
All I know so far is victoria peak in hong kong and okutama in japan. Is there anything in nara?
what a beautiful place. I used to have this highly developed image of Japan, but seems there's some gems there.
>>1084878
A lot of japan is mountains so there isn't much development there, which has pushed most of the people in to highly developed, dense cities. So it's kind of both.
southern island of kyushu has some wonderful walks, around saiki city is some nice 4-5 day mountain hikes
Which Y-connector would you prefer for your tent rods and why?
>tent

Are your bones so underdeveloped you can't imagine carrying 3 pounds?
Hey guys. My aunt and I were looking at these and wondering what they are. They are tomato sized, no smell, with pits. I can't find them on Google. Any ideas? We don't dare taste them.
The inside.
The pit. Sorry if the pictures aren't the best. Phone camera was shattered and I cleaned it up as best I could.
I should add that these grew on her treeline, and nothing has ever grown there as far as we know. They commonly get logs delivered, and there is a corn field on the other side of the tree line, but beyond that I don't know.
When you see people put a knife in their "survival" kit
>>1084656
>must survive!
>>1084677
What knife is that so I never make the mistake of buying it?

Hi /out/ found this potential truffle <--- while walking Doggo.
>Is it a truffle?
>If so what variety?
I live of Alicante, Spain.
>>1084414
Looks like an old puffball, not a truffle. Truffles grow underground, not above ground.
>>1084414
en un pinar? dificil shur. las trufas crecen en las encinas. las trufas negras, que son las que encontramos en españa, tienen la superficie negra, que parece como si estuviese hecha de esos trocitos de goma negra que ponen en los campos de fútbol de hierba artificial

To think, with one well placed drop kick, Bear Grylls could have saved the world, but he didn't.

Anybody else getting beat to shit by the wildfires this summer?
One of my best mates just lost his family cabin near 70 Mile House, Pressy Lake area.

Pic related, as of this morning.

How do I get over my irrational fear of bugs? I really like going through the woods in my area, but when I see anything bigger than an ant near me, I get a little triggered.
Expose yourself to them gradually. Next time you see a cool beetle or worm crawling around, nut up and let it move across your hand.
>>1084050
I think I'll do this the next time I see a daddy long legs or some shit
>>1084194
Do this.

how many acres should I buy of UK woodland for it to be livable for one person, assuming I'm not hunting for food? and what kinda price should I expect per acre of UK woodland?
>>1083962
>livable
>but not hunting
Uh. Does that mean you JUST want to live there, or does that mean you wish to sustain yourself via farming?
If the former, a 1/6th acre plot will hold a decent house and still have something that passes as a yard.
If the latter, 2 acres per person in the household will keep you alive and healthy with no storebought food, but your diet's gonna be simple as fuck and thus boring.
>chickens for eggs and chicken meat
>goats for milk and the occasional goat roast
>raised-bed garden growing peas, strawberries, potatoes, cabbage, onions, kale, and turnips
>actual tilled field (3/4 to 1 acre) for corn and maybe winter wheat (not sure where in the UK you are, southern half can do winter wheat and corn in 1 year, northern half really can't)
>blackberry/raspberry/other-berry brambles and bushes against the house and along your garden borders
5 acres can provide you with a varied diet and an orchard (which will take at least 10 years to start producing in anything more than token quantities) while not taking constant effort to keep the animals out of the veggies.
>>1083970
this is going to sound silly but my plan is to buy food from the supermarket I know I know I'm an idiot etc but it's how I want to do it
>>1083973
Buying food isn't a bad plan, it's more practical unless you enjoy being a slave to your land. Does the UK even have undeveloped forest that is available to purchase?
What makes you decide whether you go or dont go /out/?
EU fag here, we're having the worst droughts and heat since, I cant even remember. it ruined my whole summer because its been 104 degrees in the shade with hot dry winds for two months now. it pisses me off
>>1083766
Same shit bro, want to go swimming(I do long swims for 4-5 hours) but the sun is burning like in hell, not a single cloud in the sky, and it's been an etire month like this
>>1083767
if this shit goes on in the following years, we're royally fucked
>>1083770
Why are you against the sun shining?
I'm still fairly new to /out/
I have been road biking for about 5 years now but I recently have taken up riding in the woods, which is a lot more accessible in New Hampshire, what does everyone here ride? I had a Cannondale Cujo Three but it had recurring brake issues so they let me upgrade to a Cujo One for $200.
Pic related, it's the Cujo Three on my first ride alone
>>1083614
Where do I look for cool rocks?
>>1083514
anywhere but florida
Look for rare colors of sea glass and shark teeth on isolated coastal beaches.
For glass:
Dark green, clear, brown: extremely common
Teal, lime green: uncommon
Blue, red, purple: rare
Yellow, pink, patterned ceramic: extremely rare

I don't live by any coast (southeastern Wisconsin)
So for some years actually, I've been wanting to do this thing that I thought of, that I think could be pretty funny
It's a race, and I imagine it would be carried out on mountain bikes.
The idea is that you somehow draw a totally random, straight line on a map (preferably in a area with a lot of nature though).
You then have to get from point A to B as fast as possible, while diverting as little as possible from the straight line.
A lot of the fun, I've imagined, would come from the fact that you should modify your bike, so it's ready for a lot of shitty situations, like floating devices for when you might have to drag it through water. Or a winch that can be taken off the bike and planted in the ground, so you can hoist you bike up steep places if needed.
I imagined that you would get points for time, and then the area you had diverted from the line would be added to your time, or multiply it or something.
I know the concept is very incomplete still, but I think it could be pretty funny to try out
> inb4 "having had this idea for years and haven't figured out an exact point system yet"
It's not an obsession of mine, just an idea for a new spin on mountain biking/ urban adventure

I would suggest you play russian roulette with a fully loaded pistol.
>>1083484
Do it along a transmission line right of way
