Found this metal detecting about 6" deep. Has a captive ball inside it. Some kind of bell but I can't figure out what kind
Also, I have a Garrett 250 and if I use pin point and put the detector to the air it goes off. Also, I found some rocks that may have metal in them

Is sphagnum moss a viable water source? I've heard that the water is mildly acidic, which could possibly kill off bacteria in the water store, but could also make the water unsafe to drink. So, any ideas about this?
>>983205
You should filter and sanitize your water regardless of the source. Yes, you could use that, but I'd rather distill such water sources.
>>983205
What a douchebaggy way to get water
If sphagnum moss is growing, dig a hole in the sandy/mucky soil and it will fill with water in no time. Run it through a cloth to filter out sediment.
Boil or filter.
If you're feeling lucky, chug it raw and spit out the grit.
Kid these days. Sheesh.
some other boards of 4chan are just horrible. I'm glad you guys are back
Can somebody please, please recommend me a tent, for two persons that isn't two expensive but delivers?
I've been thinking about Grand Mesa 2, what do you guys think?
>>982794
What will you be doing?
>car camping, backpacking, hunting, etc.
>single wall or double wall
>will you be using tent poles or trekking poles
we need more
Can anyone recommend me a tent for one
I don't want to socialize while I'm camping anymore
We didn't deserve that.
Climber here.
I like having an aesthetically uniform rack and outfit. It also helps me recognise my gear when out with others.
It started out with my first harness, which was coincidentally green/gray and things moved on from there. Soon my tuber, quicksdraws, jacket etc. followed.
The toque was the last addition.
Do you do match your gear in terms of colour?
Why do you do it?
How did it start?
My next pack is probably going to be a green Osprey Aether AG 60. I have been waiting for the AG to make it to the Aether line. Any experiences?
I'm usually as colourful as a parrot, I get my gear from all over the place and I really don't care how it looks, so nothing really matches.
My biners are different colours because I use them for differnt things, so I know which one is for what with one glance.
the only things that i have that are intentionally coordinated are my cam/biner pairs (i.e. red cam has red biner, yellow cam has yellow biner, etc), so i can grab the right size off my harness more easily.
I don't particularly color match because I'm not a /fa/ggot but I do stick to earth tones like dark green, brown, tan, grey and black as much as possible. Really dislike these bright oranges, reds and yellows that seem to dominate outdoor gear. I do, however, have a bright orange beanie in my pack just in case the unfortunate happens and I need to be seen from a distance.
As for the Aether AG, I used to own the Atmos and Manta AG and they both squeaked like a motherfucker because of the AG system. You might have better luck but I think it's down to the design and material used.
I dont hike all too often and Id like to start doing it more.
What are some good places to hike in Michigan?
Only one I've been to was Tahquamenon Falls. Beautiful place.

A friend and I did a two day hike along the NRC/Manistee River Trail. It's inland from Manistee about 40 miles, and was a nice two day hike with some decent elevation change and places to camp along the Manistee River. I'd suggest checking that out.
You can hike right the fuck out of my state you goddamned tourist

Still looking for good stuff for the Pastebin and Imgur. Maybe we can get a list of Youtube vids and put them in the Pastebin or keep a couple important ones in the OP.

Does anyone here scuba? I am getting my certification now, and had a few questions. To start, has anyone heard of SDI? I was told to either get my certification through NAUI or PADI, with NAUI being better- but the course I'm in is SDI and I can't find much info on them.
>>981393
I uses ti scuba. Just do padi if you want to look at coral. Padi is international and teqches you everyrhing you need t o know.
>>981402
Im not, Im on my way up through technical cave diving. This means either NAUI or SDI. With SDI, you earn your tech certs through TDI, and NAUI is the same org the whole way through.
>>981403
Well your insane but i don't know which one teaches insanity better.
You do know there's alot of pretty fishes at about 20m deep?
Yesterday i hiked through a day old prescribed burn. I found this tree still on fire. The good pics are over 5mb. This one was just to try to show scale. The pine was probably 3 foot across and 70 ft high and just fucking ablaze at the roots. It was sort of cool. Like and subscribe
>>981214
Nice. Was just hiking outside of Oakridge and went through many sections of previous forest fires.
>>981226
You get lost? This was just a prescribed burn and i ended up 1/4 mile off trail when it met with another larger trail.
When everything is burnt it all looks like a trail lol. I did see 2 ponds i probably never would have noticed though.
>>981236
Nah had a really great time haha not many folks up in the mountains this early
Bee thread? Bee thread.
Just got 2 more hives up and running and hope to get another split in before the end of the year.
>>979393
how much honey do you average per hive and do you do any planting of nectar-rich plants?
>>979396
You can harvest between 30 and 80 lbs of honey per hive per year.
I don't plant any plants intentionally for the bees because the bees will actually fly out 6 miles and return home each day. There is a botanical garden near by and they probably spend a lot of time there.
Anyone interested in bee keeping?
>>979592
I'm planning on getting into beekeeping as soon as I live somewhere other than an apartment. I missed my local beekeeper's association beginner class a couple of months ago, so I'm waiting for the next one to come around.
Any advice or recommended literature for an aspiring apiarist?
Not shilling. Gimme one reason why you don't own at least 1 arc'teryx piece of equipment for your outdoor needs. We all know they make far superior products then all the other outdoor brands.
No, their products are shit and I already have all my outdoor gear
I already have near full Patagonia. Which I'm more than happy with.

How well would /out/ do in a zombie apocalypse? Do you think you'd survive with your current gear and level of skill? What items would you bring with you (whether they're useful or have sentimental value to you). What sort of places you'd consider safe? Where would you go? What sort of items you'd like to have ideally or items you think would make your survival easier? And lastly, what would be your weapon of choice (That is NOT guns because sooner or later you'll run out of ammo)?
>>978861
even if those zombies are exothermic, pretty sure any place with a decent winter would render them immobile husks. a few freeze/thaw cycles would strip any ambulatory flesh off them in quick order.
I will do well.
>>978884
Basically, I arm my 22-28 y/o Philipina Rifle Squad and do nothing but "drills" until the habbiniigg.
Mmm...
/out/ I'm going to be purchasing a popup camper next week, a used 2002 starcraft. I've never owned a popup before. Any tips maintenance tips? Things I should bring with me when I use it?
>>977700
Opinions are mixed. Unless you have young children, people will tell you to just get a tent or refurbish an airstream. On the one hand they're okay, but on the other they're shit and don't come with a toilet which the the only good part of a camper.
Friend of mine ripped off a corner jack first trip /out/.
A Coleman, its really nice, deluxe actually.
But a 12 man canvas pyramid tent is far more portable and far cheaper.
It's all up to what you want, there is no bad way /out/, unlike the elitist fags will tell you.
Make sure you bring a spare winder (The thing you use to wind it up/down) in your car as well as your trailer. At very least find some tools eg spanners that fit the slot so if you lose yours you can still wind it up/down. Ridiculous to mention, probably, but trust me losing it half way through a road trip with no spare is a horrible experience, had to make some amalgamation of tire iron and spanner
I want to become homeless and experience the vagabond lifestyle and get away from consumerism, but I don't want to end up looking like this guy. Am I just being a faggot or is this possible what are the pitfalls?
>>983802
What do you want to end up looking like? Do you have pics of the bum you'd like to become?
>>983802
>I wanna become an anti-consumerist vagabond!
>but I don't want to actually look like I'm anti-consumerist vagabond
Hmmm... Could it be...? That you're an utter spastic? With all due respect, you're an idiot. Seriously. What do you expect? To look like a crisp businessman? Idiot. Think again before posting.

Any UK anons here?
I'm fed up of not living in the US since I feel like I'm missing out on great wilderness.
Is there anything close to what you'd see in North America here? As in large outdoor space you can go and see nobody for days
>>983126
Northern Ireland. It sucks here. Biggest forest is about 2 miles and all forests are commercial, which means no camping, boggy ground and a strict no fire rule.
There are moors, but most are literal bogs.
Im an american living in the southern uk, theres plenty of countryside here, nothing really epic like back home but you also dont have to worry about bears and shit here
>>983197
Sure, we don't have to deal with bears, but at the same time we basically don't have any wildlife at all. It would be nearly impossible to survive outdoors while hunting, as there's basically nothing to hunt.
has anyone climbed mt kilimanjaro? im wondering how difficult it would be for someone in really mediocre shape (eg, i smoke a lot and spend too much time on the computer, but i could easily run 5 km in under 20 min)
>>982949
As a fellow smoker, let me just tell you that altitude fucking kills people like us. At 13,000', I could barely breath after walking 100yds slightly uphill.
Go move to the mountains and acclimate to the thin air for a few months and maybe you will have a chance.
