Tell me about Yellowstone in the winter
Is it worth camping in the cold?
When do I need to reserve a back country campsite?
Is there anything else I should know?
It has the harshest winters of anywhere in the lower 48. I would highly recommend against it.

baka I saw that I was looking for some opinion other than the parks website
Hey /out/, newfag here. What type of pants would you recommend for hiking in general?
I've been going camping innawoods and for short hikes for a couple of years now, but I always wore my usual, normal jeans that I wear on a day to day basis. However they always felt a bit tight and uncomfortable, particularly when walking uphill. What is it you guys wear and recommend?
Places I normally go to have an average temperature of 10-20C and not too humid, mostly woodsy mountain somewhere in SW Europe. Winter it snows and goes down to anywhere between -5 and 5C

Why would I waste time giving advice to someone who didn't follow advice already posted, you know like don't start threads that already exist?
>>985955
I checked and didn't see any thread that related to this. Care to link me to it?
>>985928
Did you seriously just bump a dupe thread because you're too lazy to ctrl-F "pants"?
How far out of my city would I have to walk before I find wildlife? I don't have any money/food and I thought maybe I could try hunting.
How much trouble would I get in if I set traps in a park?
4 minutes
Depends on where you live. Trapping is illegal in most areas and unless you plan on eating squirrels and stray cats then it's not advisable. If you are one of the psychotic people who like torturing animals as a precursor to being a serial killer then get help now.

>unless you plan on eating squirrels
What's wrong with squirrel?
So I'm flying to the Southwestern US next week for a big road trip. I'm currently debating whether I should 1) pack a tent and sleeping pad (and risk having oversized baggage) 2) Skip the tent and sleeping bag so I have space to pack other things like cooking supplies and just sleep out of my rental car.
Has anyone done this before? The car in question is a Nisan Versa, which looks like it would be... ok to sleep in.
Also, best places to see in Southern Utah besides Zion and Arches?
I've slept in my car a few times. Catholic Church parking lots are my go to place. Usually Catholics aren't dicks. Never tried it at a protestent church. I have a coupe so I laid back in the passenger seat as far as I can in my sleeping bag. The only thing is that you kinda feel vunerable.
>>985744
Pack an extra bag for versatility
What is it, $50?
Bryce is nice
>>985782
walmart will let people do that too actually. Usually camper vans and RVs but if you're not making trouble I don't see why not. There are about 20% that don't allow it though. I'm guessing in really urban areas.
http://www.walmartlocator.com/no-park-walmarts/
for the OP, sleeping in the car sucks though unless you're really short or are driving something like a big SUV in which case it's actually quite comfy. You said you're in a versa so that will suck hard. Even after a single night in a corolla I feel like shit the next morning.
Secluded industrial areas are also usually pretty quiet at night. pick a really quiet little side street. Often passersby just assume its someone on the night shift's car. Parks will be patrolled and usually have specific open hours so cops check em late at night. One option is to just drive out of town until you find a roadside rest area and sleep there. No one is going to argue if you say you felt it was unsafe to drive because you were too tired.
Sup fellaz,
me and one of my mates wanna grill meat above a campfire problem is in most areas around us a wild campfire is illegal.
can u recommend devices to hide the smoke of a campfire and general tips to make a safe firepit
Where the hell do you live that fire is illegal ?
Is it a drought fire ban? If so then dont fucking start a fire.
>>985638
Dakota Fire Hole. It is the only one with stealth in mind, though I don't know why you'd want to make any fire where stealth is needed.
Also, visible smoke is a sign of an inefficiently burning fire. At most, it should only white smoke right as you light it then turn clear. If it turns to black smoke, there's not enough air and you overloaded it. Wet fuel also makes white smoke.
na not a drought related area
we're in germany not actually quite sure but imo u cant just light a campfire on public ground here
/mg/ mountaineering general

I'm thinking of trying tree planting this summer to make money for uni
what's the best way to train/prepare for it and what's the bare essential gear needed
also any tips on how to plant efficiently or the best company to work with?
How do I remove small rust spots like these from my knife?
>no electric buffer
Unfortunately not. I've never had a knife get rust like this before, but it's been a few months since I've been out.
>>985221
Glitz. It's a product mainly targeted at gun owners. Follow directions, Polish lightly with the grind grain.
Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and Rust Remover works ok and is easy to find.
If you're not worried about "pretty", just use 600-1000 grit wet/dry with some oil.
Just moved to Colorado.

Got this tick from a local Vet. I think its a brown dog tick but could be an american dog tick. is the basis capituli produced enough to be a brown dog tick or is it just an american dog tick?

Why is the vet giving away ticks
>>984981
It really doesn't matter. Go outside and you will find some ticks.
Wait until you get a bullseye before you start to care, faggot.
I have a mason bee nest, pre-assembled.
Also I'm going to plant wildflowers to act as an additional food source, on top of the existing flowers I already have.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to build one.

You're welcome.
Anyone with honey flow beehive experience?

What capbadge are you?
Live in TX but wanna explore elsewhere in the southern region. Any recommendations?
If you enjoy forests, the Ouachita National Forest isn't too far from Texas, and just an hour from there is the Buffalo Wilderness Area. Both great places to go /out/ in my opinion
Me, too. I've lived and traveled almost exclusively west of the Rockies, so the gulf coast in particular was really interesting. Just taking a walk through a park somewhere near New Orleans was full of new stuff. You've got wild anoles! And vines of all descriptions, and leafcutter ants, and giant fucking orb weavers. It's all so differenty.
I'd very much like more of that, but it seems like to get really properly off the beaten path you need a boat or something. And there are people everywhere, and not a ton of public land.
Where's a guy to go?
>>984319
You basically described south florida. Plus pythons and gators and iguanas everywhere.
Florida has tons to offer in terms of unqiue species but I have always been a fan of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

https://www.thelocal.de/20170403/bonn-police-hunt-man-who-took-woman-from-tent-and-raped-her
>The young couple were camping in the Siegaue nature reserve north of the former German capital of Bonn on Saturday night when a man approached their tent, police report.
Holding a large knife the man threatened the couple, before demanding that the 23-year-old woman leave the tent with him. Spiegel reports that the weapon theman was holding was a machete.
He then raped her in front of the tent before running off into the night in the direction of the Rhine river. A medical assessment on Monday confirmed that the rape took place
