Okay, so this is the first time I've ever prepared a gear list for camping/backpacking. This is what all I've got together. This list is supposed to be a general purpose loadout for Northern NC, with small changes made depending on the season (heavier bag, etc). Food isn't a full load for 3-5 days, just a general idea of what I was thinking of bringing.

I'm not an experienced camper by any means. I spent a few years in the Corps (but the "camping" you do there is radically different and not quite a transferable skill) and did an outward bound course in college (again, different style of camping with different logistical accommodations), So while I'm not entirely clueless, I'd like to hear from some of you folks. I'm mostly concerned with what you think I should cut. Is there anything you'd add?

Hey /out/, not sure how many Europeans are here but i wanted to ask if anybody knows if wild camping is posible in Croatia in summer months, specificly in Istria Peninsula, i've read that its banned and heavily controlled, but others tell that they've done it without a problem with just a tent.

Does music really help plants grow? I have been playing some bluegrass and John Lee Hooker to my vegetablesfor 4- 5 hours a day for the past week but I don't know if it's having any effect.

I just drew for deer, elk and oryx this year, and am fucking stoked. This is better than Christmas for an 8 year old. It's going to take weeks to wipe the smile off of my face.

Off to walk 260 miles tomorrow. Here's what I am taking:
1. Clothes - pair of boxers, pair of socks, base layers(top and bottom), shorts
2. Sleep - Nemo zor mat, snugpack tactical 2 bag
3. Wet weather - Gortex shell, pertex shield trousers, hat
4. Water - 3L bladder
5. Towl
6. Warm jacket - primaloft gold
7. Shelther - shangrlia 3, oooknest
8. Misc - Maps, snuff, knife, lighter, spare rubble sacks
9. Food - 4 days. 2500 kcal a day. Oats, cheese, jerky, fruit and nut, snickers
10. Cooking - trangia burner, titanium pot and spork, 500ml of meths, home made wind sheild
11. Medical stuff - plasters, tiger balm, tooth brush, tooth paste, blister plasters
12. Stuff - Paracord, batteries, head torch, tenacious tape, film
13. Electris - Smarth phone, power pack, usb cable, headphones
14. Worn - boxers, socks, trousers, shirt, fleece
Base weight - ~8kg
Total weight - ~15kg
Going to restock on the 4th day and carry 2-3 days food at a time after that.

Fishing around kids has to be the worst fucking thing about fishing. Here's a particularly bad story:
>2 years ago
>I'm 17
>fishing at local park
>using minnows on a bobber, since it's a heavily fished lake and the fish rarely hit lures
>group of kids (about 4-8) and their parents come up to lake
> 8 year old has a fishing rod
>using some sort of leech lure, has it on the hook wrong
>sees me fishing farther down the shore and begins coming towards me, younger siblings following
>8 year old begins asking me the regular "Catch anything?" and whatnot
>tell him I caught a perch, 2 pickerel, and a bass
>kid begins casting right on top of me
>eventually crosses my line
>see parents watching and doing nothing
>untangle the lines, kid asks for advice on what lure he should use and pulls a bunch of discarded lures from his pocket
>asks me the "probability" of catching something on each of these lures is
>just want him to go away, so I tell him to just stick with what he's got and fix his lure for him
>soon after I catch a nice pickerel and the kids are ecstatic
>of course, now the kid wants to use my minnows
>only have 4 or 5 left
>tell him that I paid for them (things are only 4 bucks per dozen but he wouldn't know)

Hey /out/, I need a new helmet.

Id prefer to just get one, but I'm not sure if the same helmet would be good enough for mountain biking, urban exploration and light climbing/bouldering. Blah blah saftey ratings, ect.

If one helmet can do the above reasonably well, do you have reccomendations? Preferably under about 50 bucks or so.

Pic related is the Bell Segment, but because of the construction of the foam, I have my doubts of it's actual helmet use. Stuff like the Protec Ace and many of its derivatives use just a soft foam that I also have my doubts as to if it's more than just a "bump" helmet for urbanex or tacticool use.

I have a Bell Faction that seems OK other than the fact that even in size Large, it seems too small. I've looked at snowboard helmets and I've found a few of those that fit nicely (like the Smith Holt and a few Giros) but those are more costly.
