What is living in the west like? I have been looking at Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico and Montana.

I just graduated from college with a business degree and I have a web design service. I live in the midwest, but I would like to live near deserts or mountains for more /out/ stuff.

My mom lived in the west for 20 years and said the landscape gets old for a while, and that I should just stay in the midwest because there are more jobs here and the people are nicer. What're your opinions?

It sucks.

OP here

I have traveled and hiked around the west a bit. My favorite state was New Mexico, but I talked to a friend who lived there for a few years and he said it fucking sucked after a while. He said the jobs are shitty, too many mexicans, and not enough to do besides /out/. He worked in manual labor though.

I thought Boise ID looked pretty nice. Lotta young people, conservative, and close to the mountains.

Strip completely naked and sit on a fire ant mound. If you survive that then you can be on /out/. Otherwise GTFO.

1. Can you get a good cooking fire with sticks and forest debris (smaller sticks and dry leaves)?

2. How much debris do you think it would take to hard boil 4 eggs? Try to measure it out in "plastic grocery bags".

It depends on the stove. Normally a meal on a rocket stove is only a handful of sticks about 6-8 inches long and as thick as your finger. Then again it depends on how windy things are, what you are cooking, how wet/dry the fuel its, if you are using a wind guard, the type of cooking vessel used, etc.

>How much debris do you think it would take to hard boil 4 eggs? Try to measure it out in "plastic grocery bags".

Like 1/20th to 1/15th of a plastic grocery bag of debris.

Are you just going to try to snake some stinky hairy hippy pussy or do you actually believe that it's better for the environment to be running oil around on trains?

I think its better not to use that sand oil from up in canada and to utilize other sources and let fuel be more expensive so less is used.

#147-"Some Type of Bowfin" Edition

Previous Thread:

So I forgot all about the F&T Easter Santa Gift Exchange™ but since it's spring and everybody is finally getting back out on the water again, I know we still have a couple fags that are down for another $25 secret gift exchange.

Just like Xmas, email Pepsi with what type of fishing you do and shipping info that I can pass on to whoever gets picked to shop for you. I think most people just ordered straight from their preferred website and had it shipped to the anons so it's easy and inexpensive and was a lot of fun.

What's the best knot for braid to light (like 6lb) flouro?

I tried the FG, but it seems to pull out faster than it should. I think it's because when using light line the braid won't dig into the flouro like It's suppose to. I read doing a surgeons knot with 5 wraps works pretty good, but I'm worried about castability.

How do you deal with accidents or sickness while hiking? Let's say you cut yourself badly with an axe. How can you limit blood loss and prevent shock? I'm a klutz and shit like this will most likely happen. How do deal? I don't want to die.

Also, what is the worst medical emergency you've had while /out/?

>Let's say you cut yourself badly with an axe. How can you limit blood loss and prevent shock?
You learn what you're doing and take care when wielding the axe so you you don't hurt yourself that badly in the first place.

> I'm a klutz and shit like this will most likely happen. How do deal? I don't want to die.
Learn not to be such a klutz before you go further /out/ than the ambulance can get. If you're still an adolescent or post-adolescent, wait til you turn 25.
>>
>>996223
Proper axe handling technique reduces chance of injury to essentially nothing.
>>
>>996223
The first rule is to use your brain and don't get hurt. Second rule is to not go out alone. Cut yourself with an axe and you'll probably go into shock before you can react if not shortly there after. Wilderness emergency medical treatment is mostly improvising which what your environment is. Best thing to do is get with someone else locally and go out with mock scenarios. Take a class on basic first aid or first responder stuff.
