Depends on the weight you want to carry and for some special /out/ occupations (mountaineering etc.) it makes sense for some special models.
In general I just go to a reputable outdoor store, check what brand packs are on sale and buy the one that fits my criteria and price range best.

Nothing crazy, just enough for a weekend, though I'd honestly be a tad unsure how much weight that would actually be. A couple of stripped down MREs(I literally have 12 boxes of them), water(arguably will be the heaviest thing I'm carrying), a change of clothes, hammock, sleeping bag, and a few odds and ends totaling no more than 5 pounds.

That pack has lasted pretty good for years, I do like the pocket layout(our issued assault packs, by comparison, were awful). If I'm going to use it, I'd like to get a frame for it too.

Now I can't even remember what I posted. lol ...I like purple stuff, I have purple potatoes and purple tomatillos. I want Explosive Ember, Medusa, and Fireworks because in the past all my peppers always pointed down.

I study geology but I'm afraid I can't remember a good source to quickly identify rocks and minerals. I learned with practice.

If you are interested in a basic book of general geology try Understanding Earth.

There are apps, for android at least, if you search for geology, that help you identify minerals and show you some pictures.

The facebook page: Amazing Geologist has a website with a lot of interesting things, some very basic about the types of rocks and minerals.

I believe the website geology.com is worth it.

These 2 sites are my best recommendations atm.

I hope you find what you are looking for there.

Fuck that would be nice. It stays 100% humidity and 90-110F here. In summer sit at my PC with the AC on (3 feet from my face), a fan blowing on my legs, my feet in buckets of cold water, and a wet towel around my head.

As a cyclist I also wanna do it. Not around the world probably, a week or two would be cool enough.

I think my biggest obstacle is just myself and my desire for better gear/better bicycle/career.

Sounds fucking crazy, but it'd be worth the time to save and cost of the trip I'm sure.

It's a great escape from civilisation but it's not exactly cheap or easy going. You can't take a tent for example. I use a bivvy bag and a basha (poncho, tarp, etc) which works just as well and weighs a fraction of a tent.

I highly recommend it to anybody, but it's important to pick up some of the language in the area you'll be visiting.
