>for $5000 you can buy a motorcycle which will outperform 95% of performance cars on the road, even though they cost several times as much
how do i argue against this?
You don't.

I would love to EV convert an MR2 or Fiero at some point before I die. This guy comes to a bunch of car meets near me with a black EV Fiero and it just seems like so much fun. I can't even imagine it would be all that good of a car to drive, I think it would just be neat to build it.
Do you guys have anything you want to build? LS1 in a Heely Bugeye Sprite? Twin flat BMW motorcycle engine in a miata?
> I can't even imagine it would be all that good of a car to drive
if you crank the voltage way up and don't care too much about range you can make it a rocket ship

Redpill me on engine oil, /o. Is it another (((merchant))) scheme to liberate goyim of their shekels? Does it really make any difference what kind of oil you use (provided it has viscosity recommended by the manual) if you change it at regular intervals?
>>17322083
If you live in super cold climates where cheap oil is like taffy. Or have a flat tappet cam and cheap oil with no zinc
It doesn't matter what you do.
>>17322083
api rated oil will have a base certain amount of detergents and stuff in it
manufacturers themselves can alter these amounts granted it doesn't exceed any limits
for example if you have a older style roller cam you will need a ZDDP additive because API standards don't allow for enough of it.
Oil weights are oil weights, they vary a bit when hot but the real difference is how they behave cold. Walmart oils at -40C will be a solid brick, while Mobil and RP will flow albeit like molasses.
SAE vs Synthetic. SAE deteriorates faster and can cause more buildup if not changed regularly. That's it.The myth of not using synthetic on high mileage cars is a load of shit. The way I see it, if you have a leak being sealed by oil deposits that got cleaned up by the detergents in a better oil, you always had that leak.
I believe Mobil 1 is one of the better oils.
Royal Purple is a meme but it is pretty good too.
Your oil filter matters more.
So what high-end ($100k+, supercars etc.) cars are acceptable? What isnt complete plastic VAG shit?
For me, it's the 2017 McLaren 720s
the fastest volume production car around the nurburgring of course
Whatever you can afford and gets driven regularly
As cool as it would be to have a 918 or Veyron or a Mclaren, it doesn't mean anything if it only stays in the garage and gets 10ths of miles put on it
>What isnt complete plastic VAG shit?
Anything that isn't Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, Bugatti
[laughs in MT]
Bought in 2012 w/20000km
Just passed 230000km, mostly highway commuting back and forth to work.
I have changed the filters, tires and oil. That's it.
Never changed the brakes
Never even checked the transmission level.
Never changed the cv's or anything else.
Never added coolant power steering or brake juice. All levels are still up.
The car is running fine, if it isn't broke don't fix it? Am I just lucky getting away with it? I mean it clicks from the brakes/tires when I'm at a stop then idle ahead, like in a drivethrew. Some other non scary clicks I've noticed.
And, it's never not started. Going back and forth to work everyday for the last 5 years, even through the -30 Canadian winters not plugged in.
>200k kilometers on the same brakepads and disks
what ???????????????
you're either retarded because your dealership changed them in your last schedueled service, or shitposting.
I have never taken it in. I'm dead serious. Never changed them myself. It sounds like I'm an idiot. But I've gone 230000 km with damn near zero maintenance. Never had it serviced.
I've changed the oil regularly I don't bag it, and it's mostly all highway kms.
How much would it cost to build a street-legal clone of the Renault Racoon?
Let's assume Renault licenses the CAD data for a 1-off reproduction.
>The Racoon used a 3.0l twin-turbocharged V6 engine, a manual transmission and an all wheel drive system.
>[due to] additional costs of the unique suspension set up and the 3.0 litre twin turbo V6 that this car never saw production.
$1,000,000 enough?
>>17321182
about tree foddy
production cars and project/kit cars have different rules for becoming road legal
if Renault wanted to build it and then sell it then yeah maybe $1,000,000
if you wanted to 3d print and fabricate everything in your garage then no, you just have to strap lights and junk on it to pass inspection
>>17321194
Maybe $300000 if you pay someone to build it?
I have no idea how expensive it is to fabricate custom steel bodies
I must have this :(
Hey /o/ so I'm going to graduate college soon (December) and I'm going to buy a car when I do. I need help deciding what to get. I live in northern Ohio and want something thats a few years old, preferably manual and somewhat sporty (GLI, GTI, civic SI) my budget will probs be around 10-15K. any ideas whats possible or just overall recommendations? also general car thread post you're favorites. TL;DR need help deciding first car.
>>17320709
pic unrelated, not my car but could be a contender.
Elantra Sport
>>17320735
whats your reasoning?
Going to a Toyota dealership this week, going with a family auto shop owner. I am looking at a Toyota corolla used 2014 70k miles is this a good price for a 3 year old car for $18,000? I am new to cars and don't know much.
That's like $3-5k too much. Might as well buy a 2017 for that much.
>>17320337
Not with that many miles. Fucking toyota tax hard. You can get a kia or hyundai new for less than that and still have a warranty and not have to drive a CVT bland box
>>17320356
Thanks for your opinion, what would you suggest as a good vehicle? I own a Honda accord 07 but for some reason the vehicle shakes when I drive above 25 mph. I've taken it to a mechanic and they say no things wrong with it.

First they arent in the US
Second can you even import them?
Can buy a car up to around 17.5k to 18k, want newer than or around 2011 and want 2 doors.
Want to as fast as the dollar can go but cant get anything with the V8 because the insurance meme where I live is too damn high.

Pic related is top of my last rn. Yea they are dropping under 19k.
Driven the 370z (felt slower than I thought also didnt like cramped interior)
Ecoboost Stang ( Had great low and mid range power and liked the interior, also has good aftermarket)
2016 Camaro V6 (Vis is livable, interior was nice and the exhaust note was beautiful. Felt like the fastest of the 4)
335i (Car felt slow without giving it over half throttle, interior was very bland, engine and exhaust note were non existent unless you punched it, 11 year old chassis)
Wat do?
>>17319510
Shop around for insurance, the difference between the 6 and 8 in a $18k car should not be that much
Sounds like you want the Camaro, anon.
>visibility was liveable
Honestly not my impression of sitting in one, but if you can deal with it, you've overcome the only major problem it has (besides arguably the styling)
Don't get the Mustang, only because it's /o/'s favorite car
