Your questions are application dependant; it will matter what other work you do to the exhaust system.

As a rule of thumb, exhaust work moves your torque and horsepower bands up, improving all RPMs.

1) If you retain the stock exhaust back, it will probably make no noticeable difference. You should consider a new aftermarket unit for optimum gains.

2) Likely, it will reduce any gains you might see. No matter how you look at it, a cat is a restriction, and you want free-flowing exhaust for best performance. They do make high-flow catalytic converters for this purpose, if you have to keep it.

I only let one friend drive any if my cars. Mainly because he drives an M5, M3 and a 911 turbo. The 911 is a track car and i know hes damn hood at driving. Plus when i let him drive my SVX he let me drive his E39 M5.
