So I'll begin since I found that I'm in need of a thread like this in the first place.

I'm a not a new driver, but I'm looking to get my first car. I don't know how to drive a manual, but I'm very open to it and would honestly prefer it so I can learn. Is it a good idea to go manual?

My biggest issue is finding a car that looks good, runs well, and is cheap. Every memecar from the sticky is stupid expensive if not in terrible shit condition around me.
>>
>>17418307
where's you location anon? because the sticky memecars are hellacheap in par condition, plus why not learn how to work on your shitbox?
>>
>>17418324
I'm outside of NYC, more or less in the metropolitan area.

If you're asking why I don't just work on a shit car I have, I don't own a car at all. Just a uni student who's finally moving off of campus living and realized I need a car to live since public transport at my uni amounts to one shitty shuttle that's unreliable and stops running at about 8PM.

Hi /o/. LTS, there is a Pontiac Firebird parked up on our property and its been out of commission for probably 12 odd years. We don't know why the owner parked her up, but something needed a repair. He's now passed away and we'd like to get the Firebird back to a good state. Does /o/ have any advice on restoration etc? We know nothing.

It's 3am so I'll post photos in the morning. Will also find out the year etc.

>1.
First obtain a title for it.
Contact next of kin or start the paperwork at your local DMV/DPS/whatever your state has. Some states are simple, some get complicated and expensive.
>2.
Check for rust. Make sure the chassis and body are in good enough shape to even be worth restoring.
>3.
Decide if you want it as a long term restoration project or you just want it up and running to drive it.

This book is kinda meh but if you have never restored a car before it has some useful pictures and references

If a car 'handles like it's on rails', wouldn't that be a bad thing?

Trains handle like they're on rails, and shit goes really badly when they slide.

I was replacing a head gasket and got my heads checked, I got them back and they were cleaned and given a good bill of health aside from an exhaust stud stuck in there, I put together my whole motor and i left a few exhaust studs out because I was sure I forgot something and had to take it apart again and when I put in coolent. coolant floods out of the open exhaust stud. the heads are completely cracked and overly haven't been checked. I spent 78 man hours with 3 friends putting this togeathe just to fund that the head is runied, am I out of my right mind to think that the place that checked my heads owe me a whole new head. I feel like a dick for thinking it but I worked too hard to put it togeather just to find that its cracked. what do you think /o/

Looking at getting my first motorcycle, I normally don't come to this board but I finally have something to post on it. I was considering a Kawasaki Ninja 300rr as my first bike, a couple good deals in my area. What do you guys think/recommend? Should I go with a cruiser or a sport bike?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Honestly at the 125-300 class a sportbike isn't really a sportbike, and are usually pretty comfortable.
So I say go for the Ninja.
>>
>>17417526
Don't bother with anything under a 600cc sports bike, You're going to get rid of it at a loss within a month. Get something like a YZF06 not the r6 if you want more confertable. every company has a bike in the class now if you're a brand fag.

I've only freaked out twice before. Once when I say a 2006 Ford GT, and once when I saw an AE86. Only times cars have gotten a major reaction from me. Ferraris in particular do nothing for me in person, they really don't feel that exotic.

I recently purchased a Hero-Majestic Panther moped for $400US. it's a 50cc bike, and I wanted to know some more about it. I know it's an Indian company, so if anyone from Indian might just so happen to stumble on my thread, let me know about where the best place to find replacement parts are.

Hi all, recently picked up an mk1a aw11 and the white parts of the seats are kinda dirty/yellow.

What would be the best way to clean them?
Never had a car with light seats before.

I'd say some sort of carpet shampoo, possibly a specialty cloth seat shampoo.

Personally, I'd just buy new seats. That's what I did with my SW20. (then again, those seats in your pic look pretty cool, so maybe you should stick with them)

Bump, I have the same issue but I have heated seats, watvdo

buy the red cloth aw11 seats or the leather ones because the white ones just look bad in comparison even when clean

If anyone knows shit about engine building or the Ford 302 Windsor and could help me, that would be great.

I'm replacing top-end gaskets on a 89 crown vic 302, and I have some cash so while I'm in there I want to give it more power. It's got hydraulic roller lifters but the pistons are flat-top, they don't have valve reliefs. I want to get it to around 300hp with a new cam, heads, and intake. I'll obviously be adding the 19lb injectors from the mustang, and I have a MAF sensor from a lincoln towncar because I know you need to change to MAF in order for the computer to adjust fuel mixture right for upgrades. But I've got some questions.

1. Everyone talks about changing the ECM to a mustang module because the firing order is different for the stang and all the performance cams- but can't I change the firing order just by rearranging the plug wires on the distributor? I've got the AOD tranny so I think I should probably keep my stock computer so it doesn't fuck up the shifting.

2. Does anybody know the max valve duration I can use with the flat top pistons? Nobody on forums seems to know, or they all say "just don't go above X lift" which doesn't make sense to me. Max lift shouldn't matter because at max lift the piston is all the way down, it's the duration/overlap that would result in piston/valve collision. Assuming nobody here will know, how do I measure this without having the cylinder heads in my possession? What happens if I buy everything and then measure and find the pistons touch the valves, am I just fucked out of returning the cam because I installed it already?

Pic isn't mine, I saw it at walmart.

3. Can I use my stock roller lifters and connecting rods? I'm not gonna be drag racing or tracking this thing, I just want enough grunt to haul its fat ass away from a stoplight quicker and maybe do a burnout here and there.

4. Will the cast pistons be an issue, durability-wise? I've heard the 302's pistons will generally outlive the block and I'd rather not work on the bottom end at all, because I'm doing this with the engine still in the car and you've gotta lift it out to drop the oil pan.

>1. lopo pistons are not flat, they have a small dish in them, your correct they do not have valve reliefs. You need a HO computer, be it a HO speed density computer, or a HO mass air (if you do a mass air swap). Changing the plug wires around isn't enough, as it will still fire the injectors at the wrong time, not to mention a lopo computer is programmed for 14# injectors. The AOD is a 100% ,mechanical trans, the computer has no effect on it. You will want a semi decent convertor (stock stall is something like 1600), and a shitkit or valve body.

>2. Depends on what heads/cam you go with

>3. Yep.

>4. Not at all in n/a form

Personally, having done this more times then I care to count, go get a junkyard explorer/mountaineer 5.0.
You get a great upper and lower intake, Throttle Body, 19# injectors, gt40/p's, and a bottom end with flattop hypereutectic pistons.
Throw in some decent valve springs, alex parts has the cheapest kit.
Stab in a stock HO cam
If you get gt40p's, FRPP mustang shorties with a mustang H pipe and some mods fit a box semi decent and clear the spark plugs
Like I said earlier, semi decent convert. Super coupe convertor is a popular cheap upgrade.
Generic shiftkit of your choice or aftermarket valve body if you want to go all out
3.55's minimum and a trac-lok out back

This combo will run fine on a HO speed density computer. Great combo for a daily driver/ occasional fun. I ran if for years in my old 89 vic (except with a t5 instead of a slushbox AOD)

I eventually threw on some cheap trick flows, a TFS cam, converted it to mass air, tuned it with a quarter horse, and promptly grenaded the rend.
