So my car stalled out when I was coming to a stop. Like the idle dropped to 200rpm then gave out.
It wouldnt start back up so I held the pedal to get it to start but it would immediately die. So for like a minute after cranking it I held the pedal and it kept going. But it felt extremely rough. Like the pedal was jumping under my foot.
My destination was like 1 mile from where it stalled so I just kept going but as soon as I slowed down to turn it stalled again and cut the powersteering and I had to strong arm my way into a parking spot. I popped the hood to see if anything was wrong as was greeted by what smelled like burning rubber. Like the pipe covers or something could have been burning. The car wasnt overheating though.
This was two days ago and I took it to a mech, he wanted to replace my catalytic converter but I dont want to shell out that kind of money unless I have to.
Thoughts on the problem?

I've been having a similar problem with my Cadillac. I replaced the MAP sensor, so I'm thinking it has something to do with a leaky hose somewhere.

My car did that once. I bought a fancy OBDII logging graphing scanner, started replacing shit, consulted the FSM, couldn't fucking figure out what was wrong, gave it to a mechanic who said
>idk lol
>take it back

Turned out in the end to be the MAF sensor, even though it appeared to be reading within range.

No, the actual brand new car smell.

The tree scent smells nothing like that repulsive smell of a new car.

Move to SoCal.
It's hot enough that you can wear flip flops year round, making it a no brainer to drive barefoot.

Are you excited for the greatest generation of cars the world has ever seen?
>electric cars become mainstream within next 20 years
>hippies fuck off and leave our V8 muscle cars and boats alone
>driverless cars become mainstream and fatalities plummet, car safety standards loosen
>we go back to inefficient, sexy body styles and trading crash safety for fun

None of those other than the first one are correct. It's over.

Batteries will become the new petroleum in every way, including long term unsustainability. Electric cars are not the future, it's an easy way for companies to con money from gullible hippy retards.
>>
>>17868207
You may be right, but whether we switch to batteries, or fusion or something, the masses won't keep using gas.

Because it's a GTI with a tune and a shit AWD setup. I'd rather just get a GTI, tune it, and save the money. All you lose is low-speed acceleration, it'll still handle the same. If you want an AWD econosportbox get a vape car like the RS or WRX.

If Celica can be only fwd, then I'll pick 3rd gen prelude

Which car is better? I just wanna ride around in comfort, don't want a shitty interior or a shitty performing engine. I think Volkswagen uses same engine as Audi and BMW? But the BRZ and Genesis are more sporty.

I'm looking for one <5 years old and <100,000 km of mileage. ~ 30K CAD

get the 3.8 in the genesis, the 2.0 is garbage but the 3.8 is pretty solid. The best engine out of the 3. the brz has the superior suspension and transmission. the jetta can fuck off
>>
>>17867993

Is the Jetta's interior more luxurious? I don't want like a Mustang, powerful engine but shitty interior.
>>
>>17867977
BRZ isn't exactly a comfortmobile. I have the top level trim and the interior is kind of nice in a
>look I have a cheap jap funcar
kind of way, but it's not luxurious

It is however very comfortable and fun, even over rough roads, if that's the kind of ride quality you're looking for. I don't mind being in it for 10hrs straight on a long road trip, but I'm not everyone.

sure once they fix the issues
such as wear, terrible programming, low power handling.

the chevy volt had the best system. just make use a electric transmission, no wasted power.

why cant you see this is best? yes you op.

This is CVP not CVT

>The beltless design and mechanical clamping system represent a paradigm shift in CVT robustness. Similar to proven ball bearing technology, the VariGlide planetary variator demonstrates equivalent durability characteristics, and eliminates damage associated with belt slip in conventional belt CVTs.

People can hate ls swaps all they want but no other engine swap will give you this for cheap

People always do ls swaps because it is extremely easy and cheap, not because its a meme. Real American power

Does anyone make a kit that includes the wiring harness K-member etc for a Ls1 conversion for a 2001 Ford Mustang?

Basically the kit should include everything I could possibly need so that the speedometer power steering alternator etc will work almost as if I just put the same engine in there

I just feel like hating on one of my acquaintances.

He's the type that uses hyperbolic antidotes as scientific method.

He strongly believes older cars are better at everything. Now, I drive a '77 Lincoln Continental, have driven 70's pickups, have driven 80's muscle cars, have driven 60's sedans, and have had to work on them all. It sucks, even though it's fun, it sucks.

Yes I enjoy plowing roads in the Continental, there is NOTHING in the world like seeing that hood 10' in front of you like steering an airboat on land. But my god does it suck smelling the unburned exhaust, yes, even with the carburetor tuned perfectly, EGR and AIR systems working properly. It sucks tuning carbs twice a year due to weather shifts. It sucks feeling the heat bellowing out from the wheel wells and fenders when it's 98ยบ out here and you have to park the thing in the fucking garage...and smell it from inside the house.

But it's FUN and irreplaceable, I'll give him that.

The problem is whenever he talks like this:

>GWAAAAA PLASTIC, MORE LIKE "I SUCK DICK!"
>OLD CARS ARE REEEEEAL STEEL
>NEW CARS JUST CRUMPLE LIKE TIN CANS. TIN CANS MAN, NEW CARS ARE ALL TIN CANS. CAN I SAY TIN CANS TEN TIMES, I CAN!
>OLD CARS NEVER NEEDED REPAIRS, THEY NEVER HAD PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS WERE INVENTED BY THE JAPANESE!
>I ONCE BACKED INTO A CAMRY AND DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE IT. HIS CAR LOOKED LIKE KING KONG SHAT IT OUT, MINE, HEH, NOT A SCRATCH!
>MY DAD HIT A NEW CAR IN AN INTERSECTION AND IT WAS LIKE THEIR FRONT END EXPLODED. MY DAD JUST LICKED HIS FINGERS AND WORKED THE BUMPER BACK INTO SHAPE AND DROVE HOME JUST FINE. THEY ALL DIED AND HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AWAY. IT WAS TOT'LD!

Post more stories about old cars eating it bad when pit against new cars in the real world.

I remember a story of a 60's Chevy/Buick/Olds whatever hitting a modern Japanese car head-on. Both of the people in the old car died, both of the people in the new car walked away.

Pic related. 70's vs 2012, he died, they didn't.

New cars are disposable and commit seppuku to save the occupants. Old cars are a lot more robust when it comes to low speed collisions, but will kill you in anything faster than 40 mph.

Essentially, it boils down to whether you value your own life or your car's.

Affordable cars are coming with magnetic suspension now (an Ecoboost w/Perf Pack and Magride is under 35k). Is this more of a performance thing, or does it significantly improve comfort on rough roads too?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.

Both.

The ability to change damping more or less on the fly with an infinite adjustment has both ride quality and high performance benefits.

I want to make a track car out of a bmw 3-series.
Should I go with a e36 or e46?
7 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Just buy a gokart
>>
no difference
both are good
try to find a 4 door without sunroof and without retractable rear seats for maximum body stiffness
also do consider compacts
>>
You buy one that's already set up for what you want to do or spend most of the time fixing worn out broken shit as normal for a 20 year old German Car. The $10k rule is true for any M3. You either spend that amount on a nice one or buy one less than that and make up the difference.

That said, either are good but try to go for a ///M car so you're not spending half the time doing "upgrades" a M3 has stock. Even a 20 year old E36 M3 with a fresh suspension, sticky tires, and coilovers will corner like a animal way more capable than you ever will be.

I'd either do a M3 or a swapped E30/318Ti.

Don't bother with a E46 if its not a M car or you're not converting it to one. Open diff, harmonic issues at high rpms, rear subfames tear out, only fit 255s at the widest. E46 M3 is best choice but expensive and you'll feel bad if you wreck it. E36 M3 is what I chose, but due to choosing the 2nd option in my first sentence the fun/maintenance ratio has been rather low. Kinda wish I bought something nicer or I bought a cheap AP1/350Z HR/RX8 instead of falling for the German Car meme. Or I just saved up $15k for a 10 year old Evo/STi.
