I was thinking about having a bunch of different mechanics do PPIs on a really shitty car that hasn't sold since forever at a used car dealership, and use that to compare the quality and price of their work.
Hey /o/, Anyone here know if a tailgate from a 07-17 F250 will fit in a 00 F250? I got rear ended recently and I need to replace mine.
>>17500775
Yes it will. Any 1999 up until 2015 will work. If you're cheap a 97-03 f-150 tailgate from the salvage yard or CL will work as well.
>>17500855
>2015
Cool thanks my man, will that work for Tow mirrors as well?
>>17500775
Why are people who drive trucks like this so insecure? I passed one today, then changed lanes in front of him to pass someone else and the fucker then decided to get in the turn lane and dive-bomb the space between me and the next car that was entirely too small to merge into.
Just sold my Subaru Legacy in favor of getting something more basic in terms of reliability and general utility.
Fortunately, there seems to be a couple Toyota Tacomas for sale around the state of Iowa. Even though they aren't 4wd, I will try to take precautions to make them safe for driving in snow, such as snow tires and maybe chains when going short distances. I will be driving from my house to my school in the fall. 100 miles each school day.
Anyway, what should I look for? Rust is all I can think of, and test-driving it to make sure it does what a vehicle does. My price range is under 2k so I can save up for a motorcycle.

Rust is definitely the biggest issue I've seen right behind the cab mostly where the frame bends. Also checked the back brakes almost wrecked one on a test drive because the previous dick had bypassed the proportioning valve and it had no back brakes going into a sharp turn.

so my 2007 chevy tahoe has over 300k miles now and my mechanic told me that i should switch to using synthethic oil and adding a bottle of lucas everytime i change my oil because of the high mileage
Now im fine with switching to synthetic since i know its basically better than regular oil in everyway possible, but im kind of thinking it over on the lucas oil. I dont mind spending the extra money on the lucas, no, but i dont know if it might do more harm than good?
Switching to synthetic oil on a high mileage vehicle can actually cause it to sprout leaks because it can loosen up sludge that's currently plugging them up. Presumably that's why he says to also add Lucas which is basically super-the-opposite of synthetic oil, very high weight organic oil.
If you're currently not having any trouble with your engine I would keep doing what you've been doing or at most just switch to a quality high-mileage oil.
Source?

>my mechanic told me that i should switch to using synthethic oil
Get the synthetic oil labeled "High Mileage". If you go to walmart, you see the 5 quart jugs for various brands labeled high mileage. These oils have additive to make the seals swell a little bit to reduce oil leaks Full synthetic oil can have both a sludge cleaning effect and a burnt-on-oil cleaning effect. It is that burnt-on-oil (dark brown glaze) that forms on shafts and openings which stops conventional oil leaks. When the synthetic oil cleans out the sludge and glaze, then you can have an oil leak.
So be sure to use the high mileage version. If you change your own oil, then of course it's not a problem. If you go to some independent shop, you'll probably have to buy the oil and bring it in since they don't stock it. Walmart tire and oil service centers will substitute oil at your request as they run into the store and get a 5 quart jug and charge you the difference in price. Just make sure they did get that oil because you might have the bad luck of some lazy turd who says he fetched the high mileage oil (but didn't) doesn't feel like going all the way from the shop to the store, doing the paperwork, and carrying back the jug of oil on foot. After all, it decreases his service metric with walmart of customers served per hour so in one sense you are punishing him.
I drive an 05 Altima 3.5. I already replaced this sensor about 3 years ago. Am I fucked?
>>17500679
>I drive a Nissan. Am I fuck?
Yes.
>I replaced this part.
Well, there are two of them. Did you replace both of them?
They cost $30 each and it one of the easiest things to fix. Get off your ass and just do it, fucking drama queen.
>>17500679
if you didn't use an oem part i would expect them to last about that long. replace both of them with an oem part.
>>17500679
I had a 05 altima 2.5 that needed a new camshaft sensor. It cost me about $90 to get them replaced. Not that big a deal.
Thoughts on the Giulia? The four-banger, not the Quadrifoglio.
>for Euros
nice family car i guess, comfy, don't know about insurance costs
>for Norte Americanos
paying Mercedes prices for Chrysler quality, severe lack of dealerships/qualified mechanics, performance no better than any other 4-cylinder sedan that size
>>17500603
Gorgeous inside and out. I sat in one the other day at a dealership.
The good (from my experience)
>Looks great
>Feels well built on the interior
The bad
>Made by FUCKING FCA. This thing will probably explode in your driveway.
>That's it.

Lightest car, trashes the opponents with comparable engine powers and is comfy yet the most entertaining to drive: superb steering.
>Chrysler quality
In your dreams.
The Giulia uses better plastics and panels than the 3 series (both manufactured by faurecia), has a proper elegant LCD screen that is not glued on the dash like a third world car.
You can have Poltrona Frau interior leather, which is sublime and equips Maserati and Ferrari cars
For an Amerikek, Is there a better wagon in terms of maintenance costs/ease of upkeep/parts availability? I was looking at Subaru but for whatever reason people still want $5000+ for 200k+ miles ones with problems. I've also heard Subaru a shit to work on.
Should I buy a Taurus?
>>17500576
no. get a volvo v70 or 2/7/9xx wagon.
>>17500576
Taurus a best if you want a 90s station wagon. More fuel efficient than the Caprice/Roadmaster, more reliable than the endless parade of K-cars, cheaper than some meme-taxed oriental box, and easier to work on than Yuroshit.
>>17500576
>Should I buy a Taurus?
Sure, they are notorious for their depreciation so you won't get burned too badly on price
Whatever you do, don't buy a yurowagon like volvo
You will get raped to death on the cost of parts
At least if the taurus breaks down you can find parts due to the number of fleet sales Ford used make to rental agencies
you might look into the Malibu Maxx also if you want a cheap wagon
If ANYONE could identify this car that would be great thanks

What transmission is best used when swapping a Gs300 to manual?
R154? W58?
I found an '01 Lexus GS300 for sale in my city.
Its a lil beat but runs and the owner is selling it for $1k firm.
I'm thinking about taking it in a project car and turning it into a fun lil drift car for the track instead of trying to buy a rusty/beat to shit 240sx.
> Manual Transmission
> GS300
It'll be a project, since it didn't come factory manual like the IS or SC. The R154 is most common since the W58 costs a fuckton. You'll need the money for the misc parts to get to work. Besides a handbrake lever and a clutch system, you need to get a custom driveshaft and an adapter plate. The automagic sits just a bit too far forward for it to be as easy as dropping in the manual. The shifter for a manual ends up being below the radio, so you have to get an adapter made.
Again, it's not that bad, but it's a project.

thanks anon, im assuming that GS is yours? Should I be expecting to spend more than $8k on this swap?
What cars are those?
Chevy Spark and Hyundai Getz
chevy sonic and hyundai getz
Which modern cars do you think are going to rocket in value in the next decades?
I believe that the Viper ACR, with that yuge 8.4 V10, will become a collector's item in the future, considering downsizing and hybrid/eletric cars increasing in popularity by the years.
It will be viewed as the last scream from the past. It is literally the best performing old school-like car, with it's NA, huge engine, and a manual gearbox.
British roadsters are already on the climb. You used to be able to get a clean mgb for around 8k, now it's already hitting 20k.
Anyone have any experience with Legends? I'm looking for a daily driver and these are pretty cheap now-a-days

My dad had a 90 Legend. Looked exactly like the picture just looked brand new when he had it. He had this thing with old cars and keeping them look great. He had it until the tranny blew. What I do remember though is that when he needed parts for it. Anything from the ABS to the center console cover door. It was extremely difficult to find and very expensive. Keep that in mind.
>>17500200
Wow forgot the picture. Oh and failed to mentioned that when it was raining really hard for a long time. The sunroof would leak. No matter how many times he had it sealed or the weather stripping replaced.
>>17500200
That must have been a while ago. I am seeing a bunch show up at the local junkyards recently.
Hey O, I need some help. I've got an 04 Honda Accord 3.0, and I can't keep this bitch alive. Out of nowhere the engine will just fall to an unstable Rpm (200/300) until it dies.
The engine struggles to start for about 5 minutes afterward.
This does this at random, and the car doesn't throw an error code.
I thought fuel pump, but other people say crank/cam positioning sensor.
As impossible as this is to diagnose over the internet, I can't help but ask.
Thanks guys

Thoughts on NAPA batteries, specifically the Legend 84? Online reviews have been mixed.
>>17500082
Almost All lead acid batteries it the US are made by 2 or three manufacturers, particularly by Johnson Controls whom makes the most.
That being said, aside from CCA's and battery shape/size, it literally does not make a difference what battery you buy.
>>17500082
get an agm battery. they're newer, better tech than 100+ year old lead acid batteries
>>17500114
Have you felt the new lithium car batteries? They're practically weightless.
Too bad they're still having issues with cold weather.
