Looking at getting a vehicle with a bit more utility than my honda civic, gets me from point a to point b but i was wanting a second, something more, it would be nice to be able to do some light offroading, going through some of the more iffy dirt roads and shit, driving to campsites, from what i hear they are pretty nice and reliable, hard to break but easy to fix with a nice aftermarket, and it isnt fuckhuge

was thinking either this or a Jeep cherokee XJ

my budget is about 2k, and im american .mil in germany for reference, any particulars? do they really flip and kill as easy as that one report that ruined their reputation says? how hard and pricy would it be to get a roll cage installed?

I'd get a Sidekick / Tracker over a Samurai. It's objectively better in most regards as far as fuel economy and safety goes.

How difficult/expensive is it to switch a car from an automatic to manual transmission?

Especially with the amount of cars that are changing to "auto only" availability in the US.

I see it as more on/off trend, with Model T being angled, from there cars became round (50s,60s), from there angled (70s, 80s), round (90s, 00s, 10s) and now angled again.(20s)

hey goys, thinking about picking up an 06' Pontiac GTO w/ 74k miles and the 4l65e auto. Would get the 6 speed but can't drive stick so well anymore due to an injury I got a few months ago.

Anyone here got any experience with these transmissions? Heard they have some issues with gears slipping. Thanks

Some of the GM 4 speeds are junk. It's a little different from the 4l60e found in the pick ups. This one is for car applications, obviously. Never had experience with the 65, but the 60e 4 speed just doesn't seem to hold up well and it always shifts funny I feel. Other than that the 06 has the aluminum 6.0 which is great.

what jobs in the automotive field could I get as a 20 year old male with only a high school diploma? I have tools and informal experience, wrenched on various shitboxes with my dad since I was old enough to spin a ratchet. currently working framing houses and I fucking hate it, the pay is very cushy and I'm pretty good at it but I wouldn't mind less pay if I could work a job that I could actually derive enjoyment from. what are my options? lube/tire tech? I imagine you'd need ASE certs to wrench at a dealership.

I wouldn't mind working in a parts store like oreillys either but I hear from friends that the management in those places tend to do pants-on-head retarded shit on a regular basis, which is partially why I want to get out of construction as it is.

Step 1; Sears/Walmart/Jiffy lube oil jockey. Learn to change oil, tires and wiper blades.
Step 2; Dealership. Aim for a local group and ad high a luxury brand as possible. Be prepared to start looking for classes.
Step 3; ASE certs.
Step 4; realize the job sucks and you would have been happier in the warehouse or behind the parts counter.

I'm looking to do some long distance driving (cross Canada / US) and I recently came across this 4Runner for 4k CAD, 150k km. The problem is I don't know how much rust is too much? I'm looking to keep it for maybe 3yrs max. I took some pictures of the undercarriage and front bumper. What do you think?

I just financed a 1993 Ford Escort with 181,980 miles. I don't know anything about cars, but I financed it for 7k. My mom told me that this was a bad idea because it's worth nowhere what I paid for it. I didn't know that there is a website to tell you the value of cars.
