I've received a job offer out in Arizona. I live in NYC.
I drive a 1994 Toyota Celica ST. It has a 7AFE engine with 276000mi on the odometer.
Is it crazy that I'm considering driving the thing cross country? My biggest fear is breaking down during the last 3-400mi through the desert.
How likely is it that something would go wrong. If you were making a cross-country trip, what would you bring? If you have made a trip, what's your advice?
So far, I've thought of bringing some spare parts, and buying a CB radio.
As far as car service history goes, I've owned it for a little over 2 years now. I've put 18,000mi on it. The only jobs I have had to do were:
>oil changes
>brakes
>replaced alternator 3x (voltage regulator issue above 5k rpm)
>replaced battery 1x
>replaced driver's side wheel hub
>changed spark plugs and wires
If someone asked if this thing could survive 3000mi in the city, I would say yes. For some reason though, I have some trepidation about taking it 3000mi cross country even though that's about 98% highway miles.
I'm also interested in the culture of hitch-hiking should something go wrong. My plan is to ditch the car and take a flight out of where it may break down, but I realize I could break down away from a major city.
>>17590565
why don't you just take a flight in the first place
Why are motorcycles worse than cars on fuel?
A typical 600cc bike gets about 30mpg (US gallons), that is shockingly bad.
My 2.5L i6 car gets about 12 combined so fuck off
>>17590388
>combined
You sure you don't mean 90% city? I get 19-20mpg in mixed driving in an '05 Town Car.
wtf no
my 625 smc gets 49 weather i go fast or slow
Hi guys, I want to make a carbon fibre bonnet/hood for my automobile. Anyone here with experience of making carbon parts DIY?
Pic related
>inb4 spelling, Britbong here
just get one from ebay, I am sure you don't have a massive pressure oven to cook it
>>17590309
Would be using vacuum bags rather than an autoclave.
Fibreglass is probably going to be cheaper and easier. What car?
Hey guys, looking at buying a 96 cherokee. Guy says it has new leaf springs but he said the bolts on the shocks are broken and it wobbles at high speeds. My question is will replacing the bolts fix the wobble? Also any general advice involving this vehicle would be really appreciated.
>>17589669
Assuming he isn't BSing you than yea, but take a look at those shocks he's talking about and see if they need replacing. It's weird to say that the bolts are loose, anyone could tighten some bolts.
>>17589772
No not loose, broken. I guess it's common for these vehicles. Anyways even if I did need to replace the shocks that wouldn't be too bad would it?
I can help you but I'll need more info straight 6 or V8? Laredo or Limited? WJ or some other variation? Miles?
Chances are when they say "its an easy fix just replace some bolts", he's fucking with you because if it was that easy of a fix and he wasn't a cunt he'd either fix it before trying to sell or maybe he's selling it because he can't fix it. Don't be seduced by all that fancy stuff hes trying to say like new leaf springs. How rusty is it and have you driven it yet? Because thats the ultimate way to tell for yourself if something feels fucked or not.
I emailed the owner and he called me a clown
and now he won't reply to me

"yo is your car still for sale? I've got 200 bucks, an Xbox with like ten games, and a 24 pack of cheetos. Can you sell it for that?
For god's sake someone help. I need to replace what I believe to be the high pressure power steering hose and this motherfucker refuses to come loose. I've doused it in penetrant and have been hitting the end of the wrench with a hammer in an effort to break it free. I'm out of ideas, I don't want to heat the joint because of its proximity to the other hose and that as I said earlier I've been drowning this cunt in penetrant for 2 days now, so its probably seeped into all the crevices surrounding it so I don't want to start a fireball somewhere.
I'm thinking of just using a dremel to cut the nut of but because of the way its designed that would just leave the threads of the bolt in and then I'd just have to replace the entire assembly plus the low pressure steering hose because thats probably just as rusted shut. For fucks sake help me.
>>17588922
Is there enough space/clearance to apply a breaker bar?
>>17588928
Nope, its situated under where the intake filter would be so its about halfway into the car. I barely have any room to hit the end with a hammer.
>>17588922
It's not reverse threaded is it?
Can we get an oldschool motorsport wallpapers thread. /wg/ sucks balls.

Sidepipes.
Even as a kid, when playing NFS and such, if a car had a bodykit available with sidepipes, that's the one that went on.
>>17587480
I fell in love with those when I played MW for the first time
damn that M3 is fucking perfect

I recently bought a house at a tax sale. The matriarch passed away, and the kids smoked crack, drank hundreds of bottles of liquor and let their young children live in squalor while steadily hoarding junk in all the rooms until they were filled to the ceiling. In the garage, covered in so much trash you could not see it, was a T-top orange Corvette Stingray under a car cover and in pretty good shape.
Give it a good cleaning, make sure the T-tops don't leak, tune it up and give it the life it never had.
The body, and even the paint is in good conditions. I couldn't find any dents or dings, and aside from a few scuff marks and other minor defects the paint looks pretty good too
Engine bay wasn't too rusty. Based on the plates, the last time it was driven was 1989, I imagine that it has sat there for at least two decades. But the doors function perfectly, as does the hood and seat adjustments.
Just traded in my VW TDI for 20grand.
I want to spend about 10 to 15 on a new car.
Main categories are:
>fun to drive
>reliable
>under 15grand
go nuts
>>17584304
Shouldn't have taken the buyback. Tdis are still good cars as long as it was reliable. Kys.

Put 10k down on a Mustang gt 2015+
old one ded. I want to put a new muffler on my car but don't have a welder. How would I do this without welding? Also how do I know it'll fit?
Just go to a muffler shop, the labour is so cheap it honestly not worth doing it yourself

Fuck that. Two u-clamps and one hacksaw blade for less than $5.
How many previous owners is to many previous owners when you buy a used car?
hey, i have a quick question about fixing my AC. im not a car guy and i would like to try to get this done without taking it in if possible. Or if i do have to take it in, id like some sort of an idea on what is going on/how much to expect to pay so i dont get ripped off.
I have a 2007 ford focus, it blows the air through fine but the air is not very cold. i bought a can of the refrigerant and charged it up and it was working perfectly for a few days but its already back down to like 20%. not very cold, to the point where i get sweaty in my car.
My first though is a leak somewhere maybe? but my car doesnt drip anything, but maybe its an air/something else leak?( i dont know how this system works.)
Is there anything else i can do for it at home without a bunch of gauges/compressors ect i am reading about from google? Thank you
Get a parts car with decent AC and swap systems.
>>17589660
is this an /o/ meme?
That's a leak. AC refrigerant is a clear gas so when it leaks out it doesn't leave a trail. You can either get a tool that detects this refrigerant and beeps faster as it detects more, or you can refill it again and put UV dye in the system so when you shine a UV light at the like while wearing special glasses the leak shows up neon green. The UV kit can be picked up at most auto stores where I live, while the tool is specialty and probably expensive. Track down the leak, replace that part recharge the system.
Why did the Kubelwagen not catch on as much as the Jeep did after ww2 and why did Volkswagen stop producing any good small 4x4s since the war.

>Why did the Kubelwagen not catch on as much as the Jeep did after ww2
image and marketing.
>why did Volkswagen stop producing any good small 4x4s since the war.
what is the Volkswagen Thing for $500, Alex?
>inb4 not 4x4
neither was the Kubelwagen.
>>17588551
It's based on the bug. So in a way it did sell well after the war.
>>17588551
Because the people who victoriously returned home and wanted to buy a little memory of the war weren't German.
