Hey /o/, I recently got a higher paying job and was looking at building a turbo 4AGE to go into my 1986 AW11 MR2.

The current engine has been rebuilt and has about 13,000 miles on it and runs very nicely, it's just that I'm in Montana and with the speed limits being 80, and large mountain passes, the car is not quite ideal.

I found a scrap aw11 with engine and transmission for 400.00$ locally and have been trying to find just a bare block. My plan is to build it in my garage over the winter carefully, while continuing the drive the car, and come summer I can commute via motorcycle while swapping engines.

My question is, does this sound like a reasonable plan, and which series 4AGE block is the best for a boost application? I'm only looking for ~200 HP.

>>
If it's your only car, it's a bad idea

The best 4A for boost would be the Smallport 4As from around 1990-92, or you could find the last gen 4AGZE (E100), it has the small port heads and higher compression ratio and will take boost very well, avoid the 20V if you want boost as these get more complicated due to the ITBs
>>

I found this bare block, is this a reasonable starting point?
https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/pts/d/age-engine-block/6234661709.html

Why would a small port head be more desirable?

And as noted I have a motorcycle I can use in the Montana summers.

The block is out of a 1990 too.

What is your least favorite part about /o/?

I hate the fact that maybe 5% of the posters on here have driven something with more than 500hp, yet try to debate whether 150hp is 'enough' for a daily driver. You little weebs don't know shit about power.

It's hard to pick a least favorite part when 95% of it is irredeemable garbage. I guess I hate that almost everyone here would rather pretend to be ignorant and obtuse just to get a reaction out of people, rather than attempting actual discussion.

No, just Audi since all they do is take VWs, add some leather and brushed metal here and there, slap on meme """"AWD"""" and four rings and call the end result a "luxury" car like it's on the same level as BMW, Mercedes or Lexus

So I have been deciding between buying a 240sx or miata. I have no clue what to get but I know I'm going to be using it as a daily, I think im leaning towards the miata but still need some convincing. Help me out anons

240sx looks a lot better IMO but really it comes down to whether you want a convertible or a coupe and what you can find that isn't ruined or massively overpriced.
>>
You'll never find a 240sx which hasn't DURIFTO modded into a fucking basket case for the price of a clean Miata.

Miatas are plentiful, the tax on them are nowhere near as bad as a 240sx esp rust free ones.

They look better than a 240sx (esp if the miata has a hardtop). They are more fun to drive than a 240sx, (assuming you don't plan on going sideways because drifting + short wheelbase = no bueno)

Sure the Miata doesnt have a backseat but lets be honest you have no friends and if you do they better have their own cars.

Uhhhh I dont know know what else to tell you.

I personally love 240sx and Miatas but the truth is the 240sx community/owners are delusional fuck boys.

My old mans '70 Fairlane I6 and the backroads to our house while it was being resealed.
Man that bitch had a fat ass but goodness me what a sound - my mother had no idea about those full lock slides and likely never will.

Fast forward 20 years, he has a muddingmobile Mazda version of the Suzuki escudo V6 and I finally convince him to have a drive of my NA miata (few simple mods etc).
At first he was just getting to grips with the seating height but eventually he took a corner faster than he could in the Mazda and this bigass grin stretched across his face, took him about a second to do a u-turn and try out the old back roads home, this time paved.

I did something illegal, but it was worth it.

So a couple years ago, some stupid bimbo in a piece of shit Honda crossover started tailgating my ass (no i wasn't driving slow), I didn't know what the deal was when she could have passed me in the other lane. Got annoyed so I switch lanes and she does the same, came to the observation that she was just fucking with my ass. So I brake checked her, made the cunt go up a curve and sped off like a little faggot.

Her car recovered unfortunately since I saw her in my rear view. After that it seemed that she just fucked off.

You sure that looks fine? Im sure I could just replace the mirror and super glue the casing back on. And yeah it's on the drives side

Hey /o/, need your advice on a car purchase. Essentially I'm looking for a car or truck that can survive extensive driving in rural, inhospitable areas (alaska and canada) without breaking down.

I don't care about amenities or comfort, this is strictly a utilitarian vehicle. basically it just needs to be able to:
-pass inspection
-keep running in a harsh climate(!!!)
-have enough room for 4 people, as well as storage space for bags/camping gear/electrical equipment.
-AWD/4WD

Normally I see a lot of people recommending Corollas et al for reliability, but I'm searching more for extreme durability, not just reliability for regular usage. This is going to be driven in extremely remote, and cold, areas, and I'm not a mechanic, so breaking down and not being able to get the car running again is 100% not an option.

I'm looking at Land Cruisers and W123/W124 300TDs right now, are there any other cars I should be looking at? Budget is $5-8k usd roughly. Thanks.

second gen dodges with the 12 valve cummins motors are pretty bulletproof if you take alright care of them, as are squarebody chevies and the 1st gen superduties.
personally given where you'll be at I'd look for a fullsize diesel pickup truck for maximum bulletproof, but you're gonna have to get it set up for cold starting with a block heater and plugging it in at night, and you'll probably burn through quite a bit of fuel additive.
at the end of the day the way you'll keep anything running is not beating the dogshit out of it. now if you gotta jump a ditch, whatever, but leaving years and years of road salt, snow, cat turds, whatever, in cracks crevices and other parts of the vehicle is just asking for problems, and if you're on basically hoth you really need to be on top of maintenance intervals.
cars that survive in shit conditions aren't good cars so much as they belong to damn good owners.
>>
Just to add, It may be overkill, but look into getting some sort of decomissioned military vehicle I know that they have some older literally unkillable trucks that can run on any type of fuel
>>
>>17606522
good luck getting M35A2 parts up in the frozen shithole of hoth without being jewed out the dickhole for it.
plus, that's just a lot of truck.
