college student(mechanical eng), no income, DD is a 1995 Audi S6 with the 5 cylinder.
Car has been super reliable in the past, but lately is murdering me. AC went out, I sourced a cheap pump but had to have a shop recharge the system. $220. Fixed that, lost a power-output stage (stupid ass ignition system on these old Audis) single POS (lol) is about $150, replaced that so the car would run. Right after that, lost a power steering hose. Audi PS fluid is unicorn blood, and an oem replacement is $320. Going to local hose shops trying to convince one of them to build me one but not having luck.
Long story short, almost a grand in repairs over the last 2 months. Not counting 17mpg on premium fuel because 4200lb stationwagon with 2.2L engine, I'm considering something dumb.
I'm in school for mechanical engineering. I have a deal where I do property maintenance for free housing about 10 miles from the campus. When I move from my community college to the local state campus, that commute distance will double.
Convince me not to use a student loan to buy a used 2013ish Volt, to the tune of about $13k.
Pros:
1. Warranty 100k/5yrs on Volt powertrain, gets me through the rest of my college.
2. Car will run entire current commute, and possibly my entire commute in the future purely on electricity. No fuel costs.
3. Low maintenance costs- Oil change suggested interval on the Volt is like 38k miles (Thats fucking stupid af and I won't follow) but I won't have to change the oil more than once a year at maximum.
Cons: Another 13k in debt, puts my overall debt when done at around 22k, not counting what I pay off as I work where I can.
Most of my friends are paying $600-$1000/month for housing at colleges out of state like idiots, but I struggle to justify spending money on having a reliable, worry free vehicle for the next 2-3 years.
Would like to quit driving the S6 as a DD and keep it for weekend cruising.
Present your argument.

>no income, applying for loan
How does that work? Must be an american thing
>5year warranty on a '13 car, runs out next year
So you're done with school in soon?
I doubt that you'll save $13k(+tax/ insurance) in fuel alone on the ~4400miles you're commuting in a year. If you want to save some money get a scooter or e-bike
>>17641447
Not a conventional loan, student aid loan. You can apply for student aid for anything. Books, housing, transportation. Most students take out loans for housing while they are in school,or at least loans to supplement income from whatever shitty minimum wage job you can find that will work with your hours.
As for scooters, you can't operate them on the highways here legally and I have to use the highway to get to the school.
I should be done in just under 2 years depending on how well I can make the schedule work. Ideally I can find a 2014 or 15 in the price range.
One vote for trying to keep the 230k mile S6 running for school, noted.
>>17641414
>17mpg on premium fuel because 4200lb stationwagon with 2.2L engine
you don't even need premium fuel unless your engine is tuned to run at a high compression ratio
The Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, Challenger all use superchargers on their fastest trims (GT500 soon) instead of turbos. With turbos, 900 HP would be easy on all of these big V8's. Why do they stick to inferior heatsoaking superchargers?

This is the Americans last nod for reminiscing the 1970s where big motors and superchargers reigned the markets.
You will get nothing but turbo 4cyl and electric cars soon you triple faggot enjoy the instant throttle response, supercharger whines and big american v8 rumble sound while it lasts.

Hello everybody...... Does anybody have any good ideas in going about giving away solid body mount bushings for my T/A I don't need them because I put in polyurethane ones in, they are from pro-touring F-body and I'd love to pass them on in good faith, I have no need for them and it's to late to return ten..... Or is anybody interested in them..
TL:DR. I have some extra solid aluminum body bushings for fbodys and I want a creative way to give em away to my fellow /o/ ccg goers

I'm no good at this because I have no clue who is who. Truck drivers really are disposable and can be replaced by any brown person.

FTFY

Not for a few years. The insurance companies need to get on board first. Until that happens, brown people will be cheaper.
>>17633111
The damage your people do, will make the insurance and truck companies move ahead faster.
I have $10,000 and I want to buy the nicest looking used car available. Preferrably a sports car.
What car can I buy that will make me look rich-ish to the untrained eye and get me girls?

Do young people still go cruisin'? If not, what happened?
>>17624012
We don't cruise, we whip.
t. 18 year old
Barely. I knew people in my hometown that would "booze cruise." Basically just get drunk while driving on gravel roads so chances of getting caught were slim. Retarded? You bet.
Iowa is mostly trucks, so we mostly just cruise on gravel roads and have bonfires at 10 pm.
9/11 happened
Quick FYI/FYN
- If you /o/urgoys, you may spend the night/too drunk to drive home
- normies allowed but they must be vetted
- last meet had normies but they were all bro-tier and good with bantz

How cool is this guy's Jag? Is it a recent model?
Not really. You can get old Jags for $20k with warranty.
>A FUCKING FORD
>>17650029
WITH warranty?
no way
i'd love to own one especially if it comes with a fuckin warranty
Daily remind when you save up for your dreamcar a butthurt poorfag will ruin it first day.
Is it even possible to own a supercar?
>>17649440

I have some money and always liked to have a second car I could work on and upgrade it into a really fast fun speedy car I could take on the weekends and just have fun riding in the mountains.
I'm currently considering a honda s2000.
Want to improve both the inside first and the outside after, my final result would look like picture related.
Should I go ahead and do it?
Please be bait
>>17648851
No it isn't, please help me out, what's wrong with this?
My dream project would be pic related.
>>17648851
Just fucking answer I've never been to this board I don't know how you people fare in the scale off cancer compared to /fit and /lit
Currently looking at buying pic related, fixing it, and flipping it ASAP.
Current owner is advertising it at 3500 EUR. Average price for a 2004 RX-8 with 140-160KKM is beween 4000 and 5000.
Owner reports:
>Replaced starter
>Installed cold start RPM limiter (3K RPM)
>Added oil supply (?)
>New catback exhaust
>Display malfunction (?)
>Bad at warm starts: will only start after having sat for ~10 minutes
>HAS TO GO THIS WEEK !!!!!1!!!!ONE!!!!!!
Does that sound like bad seals to anyone? I'm looking to get a cheap fixer for this summer, so I can do some wrenching with my dad. Not looking for tonnes of money, but I'm not willing to run a bunch of risk either.

>Bad at warm starts
Yeah. The engine is on its way out.
And he added the oil supply because the 2004/2005 RX-8s have an ECU bug that leads to shitty oil injection.

1 owner 2009 Ford Flex AWD 120,000 miles for $6000. is this a good deal? Not really into the way the flex looks, but my wife's 2000 windstar is on it's last leg.
Ask about any warranty repairs done. iirc the awd system on those had problems and the early 3.5 ecoboost was problematic as well.
It was the least reliable Ford in the lineup for several years
>>17648643
Always Factory Serviced, I know the owner and he is very on top of all warranty work and recalls. Plus it was an older couple who didn't drive it hard. This Model is not the Eco boost
fuck no those ferd v6s have timing chain driven water pumps the car youre looking at probably has a leak from the wp right noe
Let me tell you guys a secret...buying a PT Cruiser GT is a way to get a Neon SRT-4 with half the miles and that hasn't been hooned on by a high schooler...for literally half the price, cuz no rice tax.
You can find nice examples for just a few grand and turn them into 13 second 1/4 mile cars with like a grand worth of bolt ons
>>17648547
One downside though: you're driving a PT Cruiser.
>>17648554
That's just sheet metal, man. If you're blowing the doors off 90% of the stuff on the road, who cares?
>>17648563
>13 second quarter miles
>blowing the doors off anything
Yeah, nah
Prius driver is scumbag.
>>17648361
>getting passed by a Prius

Not surprising.
>>17648361
Now now, we've all had days where we serve into another lane and almost hit someone, and then we serve back into our original lane and then try it again. Give the prius a break.
/o/ today I took the plunge and traded in the old shitbox on an actual nice car. It's a small step but I traded in my 94 Integra that was a literal shitbox that I wrenched on at least once a month to keep running and keeping the ever growing list of shit that was fucking up with it from growing too fast. I picked a 2015 Chrysler 200. My first 'grown up' car. Not to mention it's actually surprisingly fun to drive. How many of you have risen above your $3k Civics? What did you get?
>>17647938
>>17647939
Why would you EVER buy a Chrysler?
