Hey /o/
I'm relatively new to cars, so I was wondering if anyone had any generic suggestions for performance enhancing mods that would work on most cars?

throw out anything you don't need. weight is the enemy. spare wheel, tire iron, interior panels, junk. whatever you don't really need in the car. replace seats with lighter aftermarket ones also/

one of the cheapest mods out there
>>
>>13837698
this

weight reduction is best mod.
>>
>>13837698
I'd go with more horsepower, and better handling.

That works for most cars.

Alright guys, I'm in need of some advice! I've searched the web but I can't find anything that relates to my problem. I'll start from the top

Got stood up on a date, decided to go do some doughnuts in my car to let off some steam.
I ran over a nail or something and got a puncture in my tyre.
And I lost full control of power steering.

When I'm braking the steering is extremely difficult, the same when it's stopped completely.

While accelerating the steering is a lot better but definitely not 100%

There's no power steering fluid loss at all, nor is there any fluid leaking.

Should also mention the 75000 km service reminder has appeared

Can anyone tell me what could be wrong?

I think you should grease your headset bearings desu senpai
>>
>>13837558
>I ran over a nail or something and got a puncture in my tyre.
Continental gatorskins will prevent that in the future

Anyway the steering problems sound like they're caused by a loose headset. See:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P4dYsxazTU
>>
>>13837558
I'd just replace the entire headset, maybe you tweaked the fork too.

I'm repainting some of the metal parts on my old beat up motorcycle, mostly for fun & learning.

I got rid of the old paint using drill attached steel brush, then cleaned the part with degreaser and compressed air. I just applied the first coat of primer, and now I'm wondering how many coats should I apply before the actualy paint, and do I need to sand it inbetween the coats? If so, what grit would be good?

Thanks for the answers.

>>
The parts that you're painting should be smooth before you paint them. If they feel rough then you've not properly sanded/grinded them, or you've completely fucked up with the primer

I've usually used two layers of primer for normal painting, and three (anti-rust) if I've been painting things for the suspension or anything on the underside that comes into contact with roadsalt

And remember; light, thin layers instead of heavy, droopy ones
>>
>>13837550
Allright, thanks. So I goofed when I didn't sand the parts after removint the paint with steel brush? To what grit do you think I should sand the metal before applying primer? Isn't too smooth a bad thig since paint won't stick?
>>
>>13837711

I've used K60 to remove paint and rust from carparts, and with that I've been able to get a properly smooth surface

Try something like P400 wet paper if you want an extra nice polish before you start

Hey /o/. I posted a few days ago asking what car to use to dick around and drift in. long and short version is I live on a 45 acre plot of land, and there is 5 or so acres patch of perfectly flat densely packed dirt. I found an unmolested foxbody for pretty cheap that only needed new plugs and an alternator to get running. So, now I have a foxbody that is in decent shape that I will use only to drift around on this dirt with, as it's RWD, and got some pretty gud torque on the low end, while being fairly light for what it is.

Next step is modifying it. I don't want to drop a lot of money on it, as this is only a shits and giggles car. Ordered a hydraulic ebrake and starting to rip apart the interior to get any unneeded parts out. What do you guys think I should put in?

p.s: this is basically "Ebay Special: The car". So a $200 ebay turbo is totally viable.

The turbo, unlike the block is replaceable and is not essential for engine functions.

>MFW people actually pay for certified $2k turbos from the dealership.

>installing a frag grenade onto the intake side of your engine
>thinking it actually won't ruin the engine

Op just go to the junkyard and get some heads and an intake off an explorer.

looking to buy a used car from an otherwise new car dealership.
Their price is already $800 under book value.
I test drove it and there really isnt anything wrong. Its pretty much mint besides some paint chips on the hood.

I've never bought from a dealer before or done an auto loan.

What are the best strategies for haggling the actual price down with with a dealer? I'd like to get another 1k off the price at least if possible.
23 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Depends, what's the specs on the vehicle? And what's the full price? Is it a desirable brand? Has it been sitting at the dealer for a long time? These things can easily drop the asking price when haggling.
>>
Haggle hard, and finance even if you have the cash. Dealers are more likely to take off large amounts if you finance, even if you pay it off straight away. Don't be duped into extras, and don't be afraid of getting quotes from similar spec cars from different dealers and asking for better price that way.
>>
bump anything else?
I do plan to finance.

Should I let the dealer finance for me or should I go with my bank? Should I just go with whoever has lower interest? My bank said with my credit that through them any car 2006 or newer w be 3.9% and anything 2010 or newer will be 2.9%.

what about looping the exhaust through a charcoal filter and an intercooler and back into the intake, would that work? it would keep emissions down and save some weight

I would actually want this.

Eurofag here, wanna discuss about poverty tier performance cars.

What is faster:

- Mercedes 190 with the 3.2 24v I6 swapped in and a getrag gearchange.
- Volvo 740/940 turbo with boost increased.

I tend to think that the volvo is going to be faster straight line, not so sure about the bends.

on properties you should/could. i once read a article in which this mondeo was compared to passat. the passat won but the mondeo was was better at braking distance, comsumption, weight, turning circle, payload, topspeed and acceleration. btw a confusing result for a test...the passat was to good at door closing sound and seat heigtht ;)
>>
>>13837150
cool thanks :)

in my country used passats are a lot more expensive than mondeos - prolly because muh german prestige
but i also heard about rust problems on mondeo - is that a big issue
i'd buy one from around 2003-2004
>>
hm, im no real expert. in germany there are reports sorted by timeranges e.g. 6-7 year old cars. maybe you find something similar. these reports are showing the amount of problems on official carchecks. you could also spend some money in a rust protection but i guess it its not worth doing it. just be aware of rust when you buy your mondeo and spend some money for special washing in spring(salt from winter).

What kind of tires are on the front wheels of the batmobile? the tread seems to have a smooth transition from the sidewall. I think these would look good on a small truck or lightly lifted jeep type of crossover.
