Don't they catch fire, burning the occupants to crispy chicken?

A bunch of them burned to the ground in a shipping yard after being submerged by the Hurricane Sandy storm surge.

I'd put that outside the bounds of normal operation. What really makes them uncool is the fact that Justin Bieber owns/owned one.

Aston, Chevy, and Porsche are making 7 speed manuals now. Whenever I watch videos of people tracking these cars, they miss gears multiple times. What is the point of 7 speeds?

Staying in the power band for more of the Rev range. Not that this is a problem in the Corvette, so I don't really understand why Chevy is doing it. In lower displacement engines it helps though.

Well, /o/ I finally did it. After driving the same shitbox since high school, I've finally got myself a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ Sport.

I know a lot of people hate Jeeps, and people are gonna say I'm making a bad purchase, but I've grown up loving Jeeps, especially the XJ. It even helps because my best friend has an XJ as well, and we can finally go on trails together in our own Jeeps.

The one I'm buying is relatively stock, except for a completely rebuilt engine, some frame supports, and a few other things here and there. There's no lift on it, and it's got stock sized tires. I plan on putting a 3.5" lift on it, running 31/10.50/15 BFG KO2 tires, trading out the wheels for some steel wheels, I'll be welding up my own roof rack, front and rear bumper. I'm excited to finally own a vehicle that I'm proud of owning, something that will be fun to work on.

I also plan on removing the leaf springs in the rears, any tips on that? My best friend did that and he said his XJ is way better now.

Don't put lifts on it, it will put premature wear on the bearings and drive shaft. Transmissions aren't meant to work at an angle, so you'll have problems with that too.

Stock XJ's do amazing without lift. Just make sure you have good suspension and lockers and you'll be set for trails.

>premature wear on the bearings and drive shaft. Transmissions aren't supposed to work at an angle
What the hell are you talking about? Shim the rear axle and none of that changes. No bearings have ANY additional wear on them. The transmission angle stays exactly the same, and the drive shaft is a metal tube which literally cannot get worn out.
If transmissions aren't designed to work at an angle like you say, how can vehicles go up / down hills without failing?

Premature failures occur when you lift and don't get an alignment / shim the rear axle. For an '00 XJ, lifting over 2 - 3" will require a SYE and a double cardan rear shaft. Might as well get adjustable control arms for the front, and an extended brake line for the rear axle.

>>17674634
Also me.
Removing the leaf springs? Those are your entire rear suspension. You can't just remove them. You can convert to four-link but it requires extensive fabrication work that you don't know how to do if you are asking questions like that.

Also, what do you mean by a "frame support"?
Xj's don't have a separate frame, they're unibody.

Does it still have the 0331 head, or did they replace it when the motor was rebuilt?

I was just mowing my lawn and had a genious Idea-

So we all know that the turbocharged econoboxes on the road today are tarbo'd because it allows that 1.6L engine to produce the power of a small engine at lower RPMs and be efficient, but at higher RPMs the turbo kicks in and will give it the power of a larger engine (while using more fuel than a N/A engine of the same size). That way they can get 200hp and 220ft-lbs at higher engine speeds while still claiming 35mph on the highway at low RPMs.

Instead of this, I look at my leaf blower. Why not hook an "electric supercharger" up to the engine so it's basically NA all the time until the driver hits a certain throttle limit and the blower is engaged and powered by the electrical system of the car? So the 1.6L engine will have the power and fuel economy as the same engine naturally aspirated, but then it turns into a supercharged-type engine when the driver applies ~70% throttle and the computers add more fuel with the extra air.

Electric motors are reliable, efficient, and simple, and it would be like the simplicity of a supercharged system but without many of the drawbacks of a typical turbocharged or supercharged engine. There wouldn't even really be "turbo lag" because even at idle, if the driver hits the gas pedal to 100%, the electric blower could turn on and produce lots of boost almost immediately.

Also manuél CVT when? Just make it a handle like a boat or plane throttle where the driver has an infinite number of gear ratios to slide through.

Hey /o/, this is for the RX7 owners. I live in Florida and I'm considering buying a cheap rx7, everything seems fine with it, problem is the blower motor doesn't work. Anyone have this problem? Is there a fix?

>a new camaro beating a ferrari from the 80's

What is your realistic goal for a collection based on your current/future job outlook?

I'll start with the baikus:
>cruiser
Shadow 1100, maybe a raider when prices go down.
>super sport
636 or a mid 90's fzr
>standard/adventure
Versys 650 or sv650
>vintage
Cb750 or kz650

Provided I can find each bike for around 3k, thats 12k, which doesnt seem too bad.

On to the cars:
>Muscle
1967-70 mercury cougar. Around my area, you can find them in decent shape for around 5k. One of the ones I found had a 351 and a four speed. Moist.
>jap
Prolly a late 90s integra, nothing fancy, just fun and fuel efficient. Decent examples go for 2.5k. Later, I'd like to get a bug or blob eye wrx wagon to avoid the minivan when I have little spergs of my own. Will have to look at spending at least 7k to find one not completely fucked to shit. Will settle for saabaru if need be.
>truck
90s chevy silverado, nothing fancy. No more than 3k
>euro meme
This is the last thing I'd buy/do. I want to take a 944 or triumph gt6 and swap an sr20 or honda 2000 mill in it, just for the fuck of it. Prolly will be burned and have it cost a metric dickload more than what it's worth. Oh well.

Minus the euro fuckery, thats 10.5 to 15k when its all said and done, which also doesnt seem too bad.

My uncle rents out storage units and will let me in on two stalls for $70 a month. I figure I can have two of the cars there and rotate out when need be. I have an attached 1 stall garage now, which I plan to use for the bikes. I live in a quiet neighborhood with a cop shop a block away, so parking on the street is a non-issue. I would like to have additional storage, even if its just cold storage eventually.

Anywho, shit on my list, offer alternatives, share your own.

all depends on where im stationed and how much my reenlistment bonus is.

e46/9x m3
na miata + mods
