My mechanic claims my suspension problems (loose steering wheel, wandering, vibrations) are caused by these parts mis-aligned. The thing is, he wants $1,800 for a front end rebuild. Can a beginner tackle this? I think it could be done for $450 in parts.

Welcome back.
It's feasible, make sure everything is torqued correctly, and you may want to tow it to an alignment shop after you're done, unless you don't care about your tires.
>>
>>13967312
You can probably buy all the parts yourself from Rockauto for maybe $200ish. But if you have no experience doing this, then I wouldn't attempt.
You need special tools (which you can rent) and an alignment afterwards.

Get another estimate for labor, get a part list, buy the parts yourself and have a shop only install them.

Cool prototype, is it going to stay a coupé?

I really like Volvo's new design language. Their ambitions are really modest with it though, I read somewhere that here in the UK they are only hoping to tempt 500 customers away from each of their rivals e.g new 5-series, new E-class, XF, for a couple thousand sales a year.

Why do people do this?
So your wipers dont freeze to your windshield? Really? You know the same amount of work that went into you lifting your wipers is the exact same amount of work that's required for you to get your wipers unstuck should they freeze.
The biggest issue is actually the flexible joints of the wipers getting frozen, and then they dont wipe right. Lifting them up does not prevent this as they are still exposed to the snow, sleet, and ice.
All this does is make you look like a tool, and invites vandals to come steal your blades.

If anything its probably best to remove the wipers and put them inside, that way they actually stay nice and dry.

What other stupid shit to folks do in the winter?

Wait, Daf is American? Also, Aston Martin are owned by a fairly wide selection of different investment groups. Ceo is a Brit though, if anyone cares.

In any case, most of these are still designed, engineered and built in the UK, just for various international owners.

The 70's happened. Watch Clarkson's Car Years episode on the british motor industry, it's on youtube.

So I wrecked my 2007 camry last saturday. I'm looking at a pristine 1998 toyota tacoma with only one owner. I'm still in college, so I'm still my parents' bitch. I've always wanted a small truck like that, but they have always refused. My dad is offering to give me his 2011 RAV4, but I just want my own truck I suppose.

Should I just take the rav, or is the 98 Tacoma worth it?

unsure about tacoma but i like your pic more than rav4.
>>
>>13966607
Yeah, I love how this truck looks. The previous owner is a military man, took great care of it. From what he's told me, the care is in immaculate condition and well taken care of. I trust him completely but I'll still get it checked out by a mechanic before I drop a dime.
>>
>>13966559
Just watch out for rust on the underbody and frame. Toyota trucks though the 90s and even up until the mid 2000s are plagued with rust. Toyota even had a recall on some of them and offered a frame replacement if it got so bad.

Why the fuck are these things getting bigger and bigger each year?

>>
small trucks don't sell as well as mid-size/large trucks.

In some countries, small trucks are still made and sold however.
>>
Trucks were originally made for people who needed trucks. Nowadays trucks are made for people who need sedans.

Larger engine, better tow-rating, safety and so on

And you're also comparing a single cab to a crew cab...

Does installing fender flares magically open up some width that wasn't there before? Wouldn't the old fender still get in the way if you put in wider wheels?

I mean, why not just cut out sections of the fender and leave it like that?

Yes, because you're supposed to cut your fender to gain the extra clearance.
People don't just leave it cut up with no flares because it'll look stupid.

Lowering the car and adding in fender flares or wide body usually helps with cornering, stability, and weight distribution.

Most flares or pieces require the previous fender underneath to be cut and welded to allow for wider and/or larger wheels and tires.

For 90% of cars it's pointless and used for aesthetic value, but the other 10% is used for track cars that wanted the aforementioned bonus.
>>
bullshit. you have to add the fenders because your not allowed to have wider tyres than fenders in most countries. People in america just do it because we all do it. by the way it really looks shitty

I recently change the coolant pump and the coolant itself.

I had a few problems since then where temperature wasn't stable. I did 3 different bleedings of air with some inclination and none of them seemed to work.

After that I changed the temperature sending unit and apparently that was the main issue.

Now the car runs slightly hotter than previously, check the image blue line is now and green line in the middle was previously.

My question is can a -26C coolant for cold climates be the reason it is running hotter when normally over here you would use a -5C coolant. So is there a chance that due to the alcohols and chemicals in it it has worse cooling abilities?

Yes, water works better than antifreeze at exchanging heat.

The higher the antifreeze percentage the worse it will be in warm weather.
>>
>>13965879
So I shouldn't worry too much on that slight difference.

Like the engine runs perfect, no engine light and I only need to do a 3500km trip to a colder region.
>>
>>13965889
Well, you should use the proper coolant.
But, no I wouldn't really worry about it being where it is.

Try rebleeding it but squeezing all the kinks and bends in the radiator hoses with the car inclinded so the open cap is the highest point.

So I'm buying a second car, which is going to be a manual.

How the fuck do I drive it? The videos on YouTube and the articles I've read confused me.

How do I not "stall"? When do I down shift? Do I ever go to first gear besides when I start the car?

>>13965715
From a standstill in 1st gear:
Push the accelerator down until you hear the BAM-BAM-BAM of the rev-limiter.
Quickly step off the clutch.
You will never stall using this method.
>>
Tldr; get in it and flail the controls whilst parkinsoning the fuck out and eventually drive it.

Get in. Adjust the seat so that when you push the clutch to the floor, your left leg is nearly completely extended.

When you fuck around and finally how to in to starting without stalling anc looking like a retard, prepare your anus for the only semi delicate thing about driving stick; Engaging the clutch.
Start by being in first and slowly let out the clutch until the engine speed drops slightly. Bam that's that soppy cunt of a cars biting point. Add a little gas there and it'll go like people watching you fuck around.
>>
There should be a sticky for all the Ameritards learning to stick. Like holy shit, it's not that hard, you can learn how to drive manual in 2 weeks TOPS if you're not mentally challenged.
