hey /o/
im in the market for a vehicle that has 4 seats, available with a m/t, and is a proven drivers car that i could drive every day for under 10k usd. some preferences of mine would be that the vehicle be rwd or awd, a hatchback, and turbocharged but it really doesnt mater as long as the ride is enjoyable. i am a bmw technician so repair isnt as big of a deal for me, especially for bmw's. ive compiled a small list of potential vehicles already and would love to hear some suggestions, thanks everyone.
current list: ae86, s13, s14, fc rx7, r32 gtst, legacy gt, 2.5rs impreza, e21, e30, e36, e46, e28, e34, e39, e24, golf, scirocco, classic mini, bmw mini, eclipse gsx, cressida, is300, sc300, volvo 240, classic beetle

Performs great out of the box (although I guess it really came "out of the box" a decade back) and plenty of room for modification later on. GOAT interior. RWD. 6 speed.
Since you're a tech I imagine you know this but replace the VANOS seals if it hasn't been done already.
are miatas meme machines? i thought soft tops were wet noodles around corners due to lack of stiffness. do they even have an LSD? or power?
>not being able to go fast or have a stiff frame
why is this allowed?

>16.7 seconds to 100
KEK!

>i thought soft tops were wet noodles around corners due to lack of stiffness.
Purpose-built convertibles like the Miata and S2000 are similar in stiffness to coupes. Coupes with the top chopped off like the Mustang and 3-series are significantly heavier and floppier than their counterparts.
>do they even have an LSD?
They have an LSD standard on the Club trim, and you can buy an OEM LSD for $650 if you'd like to install one in a Sport trim car.
>or power?
155 BHP from the factory, but people have gotten 165 RWHP out of them already without modifications.

Are brand names important in aftermarket upgrades?
Which brands should I avoid?
Which brands are great?
Tein is pretty garbage, their monoflex's are good though. Everything else they make is borderline Chinese with pretty paint.
Some companies are better than others. Most of the Jap companies are vastly overpriced for what you're getting, but still good stuff. US parts are also pretty expensive, but the expensive US made stuff, say AMS or FullRace, is very good, and mostly much better than what you'd get from a Jap company for the same price.
HKS: Good but expensive
Tomei: Great but mostly reasonably priced
Greddy: Good but insanely expensive (3k for a turbo using 25 year old tech)
Fullrace: Great but expensive, and their manifolds will still crack
AMS: BRING MONEY
6boost: Expensive but best manifolds around, heavy steampipe that won't crack
Godspeed: fuck off
So yeah brand name is important, but it can also mean overpaying for less, especially if you're talking about comparing US to Jap companies
>>14005220
Even Street Basis are fairly okay; on par with higher-end smooth body shocks like Tokico Illuminas. They're better than the actual Chinese crap at the same price (Megan Racing).
I have a set of Tein TypeFlex on my miata that I got a good deal on. I've used coilovers before and these are my favorite. I can tell you from experience to avoid cheap ebay shit. Believe me, you'll thank me later.
Scion iQ
965 kg/2,127 lbs
94 hp
$17,090
I like how light it is. Is it a good car. All other cars weigh 4000 pounds
I used to like the scion iq too, but the 2016 smart car sounds a bit better now. I'm mostly attracted to their turning radius, fuel milage, and light weight
>>14005123
You actually think it's lightweight for a car that's only a bit bigger than a washing machine?
A Fiesta, a Punto, a Corsa or a Polo weigh at about a tonne and are way bigger than the iQ.

Buddy of mine has never had good cars.
First car was a MUSTANG v6 convertible. Not so bad on paper but not great. Had horrible issues he refused to address and ended up selling.
He bought a $1000 alero next and trashed it within 6 months.
Then on to a bubble Taurus which blew a trans.
So he bought another Taurus.
Which also blew a trans.
So he bought a newer Taurus.... Blew a trans.
He was given a really clean Buick something or other FOR FREE. Sold it and bought a $500 ford escort. Blew a trans.
Financed a Chevy hhr for $10k with 120k miles on it.
All this time I've been trying to warn him and he won't listen!!!
>>14004564
All this talk of blowing trannies is getting me moist
>>14004564
I have a friend like that
>his first car was a 96 Nissan altima
>thought it was the coolest shit
>had fuckload of miles and need a lot
>got rear ended was really his fault but got away with it
>"dude the insurance guy told me I'm ganna get 8 grand for it because all my high end shit like my spoiler and custom stereo"
>tell him no your going to get max 3 grand cause that's about what it's worth
>proceeds to call me an idiot and I don't know what I'm talking about
>wants an evo thinks he's ganna get an evo for 8 grand
>finally gets his check
>2.5 grand
>laugh into oblivion
>still thinks he can get an evo
>true to buy my co-workers base model riced out lancer
>she won't do ends up buying a Taurus
>finally takes a shit cause he dosent know how to do shit on a car and treated it like it was a racecar
>I could smell it running got all the time and that poor 3.0 lasted as long as it could
>ends up buying his uncles pos Isuzu rodeo for 1 grand over what it's worth
>still thinks it's the tightest shit
>>14004564
OP, you're a snob, holy shit.
Alero's are fine, and so are Buick's and HHR's They're all fairly bulletproof when not owned by complete morons.
Well fellas long story short I got t-boned and now it's time for a new car.
My budget looks to be around 10k (hopefully). I would like to get something fun like an STI or something similar like an EVO. Trying to avoid another fwd car. So what's out there? What should I look for?
>inb4 Mustang
That's not an option.
>>14004530
Why don't you post a picture of your wrecked car and tell us the story behind it?
I was going through an intersection and some ass-hat ran a stop sign, and bang it was all over.
>Drive manual all my life
>Get in an automatic
At a stop light I lift off the brake
>car moves forward
What the fuck is this shit?
That's how a torque converter works.
>>14004026
Do all automatics do this?
>>14004020
it's called magic
What features are now must-haves for you in a car?
For me it's:
>Power one-touch (up and down) windows
Climate control w/ vents in backseat (so many cars skimp on this)
>Leather (the synthetics smell like petrol to me)
>Backup camera
>High end audio system
>CD/DVD player
>Two USB ports
>HOLD function (let's you take your foot off the brake at stoplights while car stays in Drive)
>Power trunk/hatch
This post was just a test btw. Do not reply. Thanks >OP

so when the environmentalists ban everything above 2l, you will be happy with your turbo 3 cylinder?
Hey guys, I'm looking to do my first performance modifications on my ecoboost mustang. I'm thinking intercooler and downpipe upgrade to start, but I have a few questions.
How does tuning the ECU work? Do I have to take it somewhere to get it done, or do you use a kit?
Does changing part of the exhaust mean that I can't drive the car without tuning it? (If I change the intercooler for a better one, will it run like crap without tuning the ECU as well)
How do I find what my bottlenecks are? For example, do I need a cold air intake? How would I tell if I did?
Appreciate you bros.
Didn't read but that's a fine doge.

>Is Range Rover the Rolls-Royce of 4x4s?
No its a shit tier suv that breaks down and has lost all credibility now that pajeet bought them
I just bought a Range Rover Sport, supposed to get here end of the month, so I hope it is pretty comfy. First time owning a Land Rover. I looked at the proper Range Rover but it was a bit big.
I wouldn't say it's a Rolls-Royce but it did drive rather well. I was surprised test driving it, when I started SUV shopping I was pretty sure I was getting a Cayenne.
Not anymore since Bentley has one
