both. drag strip every other thursday and streets every other tuesday. i plan on using the car as a daily for some time so i know i should worry about wearing them down quite a bit.

I seem to be leaking/burning oil on my 92 pony. This picture is from the back of the front bumper. What the hell even passes oil through there?
I post here because as I was driving home just now I smelled something burning. I was aware of this leak and thought it to be power steering which I haven't changed in a while. But the burning smell is new, and now I leak a bit more.
I just did my oil change 2 weeks ago.
And this which its dripping is black. I'll post a pic in second post.
Any ideas?
I'm fairly new to this whole car thing to be completely honest.

Just because that's where the oil ends up doesn't mean that's where it's coming from. Just follow the trail and try to find where it's coming from.. it could be all the way at the top.
My guess is a main seal, but impossible to know from that picture.

So you guys wanna hear some bullshit. My friend just got a 1992 Lexus sc400 as a surprise for Christmas(he's been needing a car). I picked it out from a private seller and he and his mom went on a test drive(it was driven for 30 minutes and was driven hard) and briefly inspected the car(engine, tires, checked for rust, fluids, obvious leaks). Everything seemed great. It's in decent condition and the engine seemed strong still. Mind you it has 155,000 miles, I know these things are built very well.
So anyway, his mom buys it for him knowing that the only thing wrong with it is the heat doesn't work. She paid $2200.
So today she takes it to some small mechanic and he said that theres a crack in the radiator that is dripping down into something causing the heat not to work(does this make any sense to you guys? He said this was a $1300 repair, $500 just to swap the radiator) and that theres a small/minor oil leak that will require the engine to be pulled(this doesn't sound true unless it's a rear main seal, even then he quoted this at $3000). Sadly I heard this from his mom and she's not exactly sure what the guy said so I'm not sure how true that statement is.
Either way, doesn't this sound absurd? $5000 for a radiator swap and a minor oil leak?

Heat not turning on is usually a thermostat, 70 dollar part at the most. If the car's not overheating, the water pump is fine. A new radiator could cost you a couple hundred, but you should have dude install it himself, other than burping the coolant it's one of the easiest major repairs you can do on a car. Honestly with the heat failing, I would suspect your leak comes from somewhere in the thermostat/water pump area. Maybe a bad gasket. I don't know much about the 4l 1uz motor though so I'm going to quit speculating.
Either way, that mechanic is trying to Fuck you over so hard.

I wish my friend would realize this because I feel like they think I'm the bad guy for picking this car. I know that swapping the radiator is easy and there's no way I'd let him go to a shop to get that swapped. They'd charge too much.
The previous owner said he replaced the thermostat because he thought that might be the issue. The AC still blows fine and cools. It's just the heat.

So I'm hopefully going yo be finishing up with my miata soon and selling it by spring.
My subaru is stored in my garage and I miss the turbo alot but I don't want to build the block for more power as she's already pretty maxed out at 320.
So I'll have around 4k to buy another fun car once the miata is gone and I was looking for another fast car. While I know 4k isn't alot for a fast car I'm not afraid of age or work. Also the 4k doesn't include mods, I'll be modifying too so keep that in mind.
My idea was a mk3 supra turbo. 7m can hold around 400 ponies on a relatively stock block with a good head gasket upgrade. And even more if tou toss pistons in.
What would you buy in this budget for bigish power without a complete engine build.
I was also thinking foxbody but I really don't like the looks and am very partial to the supra so far. Thoughts br/o/s?

OK guys, got an electrical issue on my F250 (inb4 hurr hurr it's a ferd). I get intermittent charging, then nothing. Lately it's been nothing and I'm driving on battery. I'm torn as to whether or not it's the alternator, or something in between. Any ideas?

Does the alternator have an external regulator? They're really easy to change, usually wear out before the rest of the alternator does, and pretty cheap. If your battery light is going on and off, it's a fair bet.

That makes no sense. You can't just 'drive on battery' unless you charge it up with a charger and don't go very far or don't shut off the car until you get home.
Have you checked battery voltage while the car is on?
