Pushrods are superior to DOHC. The Automotive press is saying pushrods. Heck, even the Europeans are lauding the supercharged LS9 and LS2.
You cannot argue with that, expecially since the only alternatives are the V8 DOHC mills from Ferrari and Lamborghini that, while generate near-pushrod horsepower, are painfully lacking in torque. Torque, in fact, that rivals V6 family car mills. Racing history and commercial viability is screaming for the pushrod design of the powertrain in terms of overall engineering supremacy.
Despite what honda fags say, hp per cubic inch or liter or whatever never meant anything and it never will. It's a stupid marketing gimmick. The real measure of an engine is how much it weighs compared to the power it makes. In that regard pushrods are superior engineering, they get the job done making the same power with less weight, smaller size and fewer parts. There's no point in DOHC unless you're trying to impress bench racers.
I mean compare the V10 in the BMW M5 compared to the Corvette Z06 V8, BMW is about 305 ci the Corvette is 428. HP is about even but the Corvette kills it in torque, 92 plus more ft lbs of torque, and it weighs quite a bit less. All the while being about 123 ci bigger in displacement, where is the advantage of the DOHC?

pic related. it's steel blue on black, sport package, rear wheel drive, manual e46 touring. I think like a few hundred of these were ever made and it's the only one on sale in the country right now. I could replace all the damaged components for a grand or so, and because it's the entire right side there would only need to be paint blending into the rear quarter and the hood. A full cooling system refresh would solve most of the potential issues but having no service history could be bad.

If it comes with a warranty it's fine. Those cars are just known to be pretty unreliable.
Also a lot of hate comes from the long gearing.
Besides that it's a good car for fun daily driving.

got it around 35k miles. the transmission sucks. Ford put a recall on all the autos. Reprogrammed the timing, still sucks. Not smooth at all.
It started stalling randomly, maybe around 45k miles. Ford stated the throttle body was bad and needed replacement, but wasn't covered under the 50k mile powertrain warranty. Since that part is integral to the engine, I thought that was bullshit. I cleaned the TB and the issue went away.
A month ago, my gf calls me, saying there's coolant boiling in the engine bay, and the temperature light came on. (It doesn't have a temperature gauge) Had it towed to a shop, and the code they read, stated the water pump failed. To replace, he needed to take apart the side of the engine where the timing belt is. Mechanic stated it was a poor design. The serpentine belt also needed to be cut off, and a special tool is required to put it back on. (Doesn't have a tension pulley)
Words from this mechanic, "If it wasn't for Ford, I would be out of business."
Overall, the car is small, light, cheap to buy, cheap to own. Great gas mileage. It's likes to be revved to red. It's fun taking it to the limit of it's skinny tires. The transmission sucks. A lot of bolts are Torx instead of Hex, but can be worked on. Not easy though.

Touchscreens are slow, inaccurate, unresponsive, can't be operated with muscle memory, HAVE TO BE LOOKED AT (which is a safety concern), and if the screen fails, so will every function on it. Oh, and good luck resting your arm down.
