How do you not roll back in a manual car if you're stopped at a light on a steep hill? What gear are you in & what's your foot placement?
You can use the E-brake to hold you in place while you get the car moving.Other then that you just have to get good at it
Heel-toe in first. When you start to let the clutch up, put the heel of your other foot on the brakes while you use your toes of the same foot to wind up the engine and get in gear. Once you're in gear resume normal operation.

Clutch in, right foot on brake. Let clutch out to engagement point and gas it up at the same time. Congrats u just hill started and mght have rolled an inch or two at the most. At first you will "ride the clutch" a bit untill you know exactly where it engages. If you dont know how to "ride the clutch" look it up.
Hello, I'm 18, and my dad is going to buy me a car soon.
How do i convince him to buy me a manual car?
Are there any arguments i can use to prove why i should get a manual instead of an automatic?
Or is manual driving just a meme that I've fallen for?
Please help. Thanks mates.
lmao
Go buy your own car you little shit.
Also, if these are the questions you're asking a board full of "enthusiasts", then the answer you receive won't even matter.
Just take what you're given, spoiled cunt.
>>14704290
Dad I want a manual, if that doent work then:
higher resale, better fuel econ(if you dont drive mad), cheaper maintenance if something pops and in some cases the manuals are more reliable, (ford)
>>14704290
Driving a manual nowadays is like watching ads on TV. You can do it, but you're wasting your time
>pull up to a red light
>i8 driver next to me throws up his middle finger for no reason
I mean really, like why on earth would someone do that?
>inb4 all BMW drivers are assholes
If you did some shitty driving techniques that disturbed him further up the road.
It does not have to be exclusively related to that moment in time.
What were you driving?
If it was a stanced older 3-series and I was an older BMW enthusiasts and owned an I8 your car might piss me off to the point where I throw you a middle finger. Not saying that's the case though.
OP, you need to accept that some people are very gay and unhappy about it.
What are the other two cars in this picture?
>>14715640
Shit
>>14715640
Mustang and Kia Soul.
A connecting rod broke in my 2001 Subaru. It now needs a new motor. Do I...
Have a shop replace the motor: $2500
I replace the motor: $1500 (It'll be my first)
Buy another beater: $2000
or
Do the bare minimum to get my project car back on the road: $1500
The project car is a 1972 Datsun and should only need new fuel and brake lines and a motor refresh to be road worthy. Although it needs extensive work to be fully restored.
Pretend like you're making this decision with almost no money.
>>14715429
Project car mate, you know it's going to be awesome to be on the road.
>>14715429
How much is your car worth:
1. Running
2. With a bad motor
That should guide you to the best choice
>>14715479
True, but it's a 2 seater which isn't very practical.
>>14715486
I bought the car for $2800, and it was worth about $3200. With a replaced motor, it should bring about $3600. I have no idea what it's worth in it's current condition. $750 maybe?
Feeling a bit of retardation starting up again so

Whats wrong? Mad your i4 i6 v6 shitbox cant keep up?
>Hating twin intakes

explain this to me because i am retarded:
i can spend $5000 on a 10+ y.o, 150k+ mileage corolla that someone has sneezed and farted and ate mcdonalds in, and they ran into curbs and skipped oil changes, etc.
or
i can put $4000 down on a new, untouched, uncrashed, under warranty compact car with affordable payments over 48 months, that i can easily pay due to being an employed adult
and the first one is the one true responsible decision?
i feel like this is the equivalent of "shake the managers hand!" it's another situation where we (or more particularly, boomers writing self-help financial books) pretend like reasonable used cars are still $1500 cash down at the handshake factory. like, of course i would buy that fucking car for $1500. but unfortunately $1500 gets me a recently wrecked, "manuel" chevy aveo with a temporary spare. no longer can i pick up a chevy nova for $1000 to drive me to my summer job that pays for my private university tuition. it's 2016 and used cars are increasingly ridiculous.
pic is craigslist right now. not cherrypicked shit. i sorted clean titles, <150k miles, toyota corolla and these are the first 10 returns. this is the market.
Neither are sensible because you're looking at fwd 4 cylinder shit boxes.

My 94 Honda Prelude is being a cunt, and I don't know why. Basically, the car starts fine 90% of the time, and then sometimes it will just crank without actually starting.
Just earlier it started no worries, I took it up and down the street, parked, turned it off. Turned it on and off twice, no worries, then the third time, engine cranks with no hope of starting. Other times it doesn't even start the first time.
Doesn't seem affected by hot or cold, and the car runs perfect when it does start. Any ideas?
>>14715031
Coulda had a corolla
>>14715031
sounds like an intermittent electrical fault. Check the wiring to the starter.
>>14715043
My Corolla ran perfect until a nigger crashed into me.
>>14715044
But if the wiring to the starter was the issue, then the engine wouldn't crank at all?

retro? I don't think you understand what this word means.
Hey, /o/, what the fuck is wrong with your car?
I'll tell you what the fuck is wrong with mine.
Whenever I lock the wheel, reverse or drive, if I even slightly put on the throttle I get this clunking sound and feel, like it's hitting something. I suspected it was the CV axles or the ball joints, or just SOMETHING in the suspension, I had that specifically looked at and the mechanics told me it was okay, they said it was most likely in the transmission (autotragic) but they weren't able to look at it because of how long that would take.
So, /o/, is my transmission fucked? What's wrong with your cars?
Same thing is going on with my truck OP. One of the bushings on my sway bar rotted away so I figured that might be the cause, but I replaced it and I still get the same sound.
>>14714156
That's shit, my man. I don't know what the fuck it is but I want to fix it.

what the fuck is this shit
Hey br/o/s, just made my Altima sick. It was boring and ugly before so I thought I'd JDM it up a bit, what do you guys think?
Make it more ironic and I'll like it. At the moment, it's either trying too hard or not trying nearly hard enough.
The painting process
Find me a car that suffers from worse JDM tax then R34 GTR's
pro tip: you can't
