I'm gonna be looking at two VW GTI's soon, a 2000 and a 2002 model. I got a VIN check on both, the 2000 was built in Germany and the 2002 was built in Brazil.
Does the location of manufacture matter much? I always hear about how Mexican MK5 Jettas aren't as good quality, does the same apply for these? Also, they're both VR6 but the 2002 is the 24 valve. Would that alone make it worth it more than the other one regardless of where it was made?

Ok here is the basics. Your car payment should never be more than 20% of your gross monthly income (that's the max, depending on your financial situation, you might want to shoot for 10-15%).

As a first time buyer, it's in you interest to shop around. Check local banks (and Credit Unions if you have access) to see what rates you quality for. With a traditional bank expect around 10% as a first time buyer. With a credit union expect about 5%
If you are going to go with something new, stick with something that has good resale value, and will be within your budget.
While your money will go much farther with a gently used (2-4 year old) car, it's much easier to qualify for financing on a new car, and new cars offer much strong first time buyer incentives. Weigh your options with both, and make the choice that works best for you financially

Can yous take me through the process of an oil change, I just wanna make sure I'm not fucking up.
From memory its:
>get try or if the car is able to be lifted up on a hoist one of those reach bucket thingamjigs
>remove the sump plug
>burn hand on hot oil
>wait for it to drain
>remove oil filter and let that drain into bucket/thingy
>put new filter
>put sump plug back on
>new oil
>PROFIT
I'm pretty sure I'm right or at least in remembering the Toyota service center way from work experience

Some people even fill the filter with it, but given that they put oil filters on the top of some engines now, that doesn't seem necessary. Then yes, filter, sump, pour new oil.
