It's a pretty good motor; reliable, sounds good, makes 325 horsepower.

What's not to like?

And the 1LE will be a handling monster.

But, still, you're gonna hear people say

Hi guys, okay well tomorrow I am supposed to meet with an appraiser to check the worth of the damage to my honda accord, year 2008. If they deemed my car as a total loss, what would happen? I called the insurance company and they kept sending me to different branches of the insurance company. Also why is an appraiser from a different insurance company looking over the damages and not from my insurance company?

Generally if they total the car it means that they view the cost of repairing it in excess of the value of the car. If they total it, they write you a check for the value of the car at the time of the crash. This almost always means that they take ownership of the car and sell it off for scrap. Some insurers won't bother with taking it in some situations, so you can part it out or scrap it yourself. If you strongly disagree with their appraised value (not an infrequent occurrence, they want to pay as little as possible) your best recourse is probably going to involve talking to a lawyer, or seeing if your insurance will appoint one. A strongly worded demand letter from a reputable attorney lights fires under asses. With that said, don't rush stuff. It's not worth fucking up, and these things don't happen overnight. You MIGHT have to sue the other party, but without details about what happened, nobody here can help you.

Things to consider. If they do not end up totaling it, and you weren't at fault in the accident (you can be at fault, just harder to argue for this), demand compensation not only for the repairs, but for the diminished value. A car with major repairs is going to bluebook for far less. Paying you for repairs and diminished value is the only way to be "made whole."

Disclaimer, there are exceptions to literally every single point above. A huge amount will depend on what your policy is, and what the policies are for whoever crashed into you.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SIGN SOMETHING WITHOUT READING AND FULLY UNDERSTANDING IT. Lot of companies try to coerce you into signing stuff so you can't ever get anything else out in the future. If their settlement offer is not acceptable, even marginally, you aren't forced to sign it. Lot of attorneys do free consultations for this sort of thing.
>>
So if I am at fault am I still able to get a check for my car if it is deemed a total loss?
>>
I'm also under a similar situation. My car was already appraised, and I've be offered a solid amount to be honest, but seeing as how it's wise to negotiate that amount, I would like to do so, but I'm not sure how to backup why.

I'm considering buying back my car for the $120 and flipping it whole for parts.

I present to you, the OBS (Oil Burn System)

The purpose of this system is to change the procedure of an "oil change" and to keep your oil more clean at all times.

How it works:
Your oil loops into a special burn chamber, controlled by a computer. The computer burns off very small amounts of oil based on mileage and engine hours. The burned oil's waste is deposited into the waste deposit canister. At the same time of the burning, the computer also draws from the oil reservoir and adds the exact amount of oil it just burned back into the system.

How the "oil change" is now handled:
You no longer drain any oil, instead you just add oil into your reservoir and change the waste canister. The OBR system has the added benefit of making the "oil change" procedure a completely top-side job, meaning you no longer have to go underneath the car.

Failsafes:
The OBR system can accurately read the level of the oil reservoir and will tell you when you need to add more oil. It will also cease burning oil if it detects there is a critically low level in the reservoir.

Adaptability:
For all you performance guys out there, maybe you want to pay a little extra to keep your engine running nice and clean? Well you can adjust the OBS computer to burn oil at a slightly higher rate. This would increase your oil consumption but that's not a problem because you want to show some love to your engine by keeping it clean. You can also perform a quick engine flush by hooking a hose up to your canister outlet and increasing the burn rate to very high cycling through a couple quarts of oil in a few minutes.

>So wait, I don't get it...
Instead of draining only 80% of your car's oil and adding in clean oil to your remaining 20% dirty oil, and then having the same oil for 5k+ miles, the OBS will burn off oil before it even has a change to get dirty and inject more clean oil over the course of 5k+ miles (or however long your specific OBS "oil change" period is)

Woops I typoed "OBR" a couple times. Meant to say OBS but I'm pretty sure everyone will get that.

10/10 for effort lad
hakuna miata would be proud
>>
>>14784907
You would reach an equilibrium level of shit in your oil, since this is a single-pass continuously stirred reactor now. With no filter, you would be exposing your engine to significantly more contamination, assuming you're burning oil at your normal "swap" rate (e.g., 4L every 3k miles).

2/10 for this was thought of 200 years ago, actually exists, in some applications, and there's a reason it's not a design option on a modern car.

pic related. I have barely any knowledge of cars, but from my understanding, the "bulginess" of the challenger comes from the need to meet safety standards?? But is there a way to change the body of it to make it closer to the original?

Hey /o/
What would you say is a fair price for an imported JDM WRX STi? I'm looking at two right now, a 98 and a 00, 9k and 11k respectively. Both around 100k km and come with a full inspection and 1 year warranty.

Do you guys think they will depreciate more than this? And is insurance ridiculous for RHD imports? Thanks guys.

Too much, you could have a V3/V4 imported yourself for ~6k CAD

Talk to an import company. I'd recommend Pacific Coast Auto or JDM Connection.

Hey /o/

Can you tell right off the bat if an engine isn't built right by driving or listening to it ?

I ask because i'm going to look at a Foxbody on Friday. the owner says he had the block machined at a reputable shop, but built the engine himself.

he says its also his 4th build

how much of a risk would i be taking if i bought this car?

heres the cl ad http://greenville.craigslist.org/cto/5494994742.html

opinions ?

thanks you guys are the best

It's the same reason you have to wait a few secs after a sudden stop to put car in reverse, or else you will grind reverse gear even if you have the clutch all the way down
