Why is the engine so big?
no replacement for displacement
lack of engineering skill

That's a big hood
2012 Audi A4 may be totaled, still waiting on the insurance to check with my shop, but in all odds I'm getting around $20k to drop on a new car.
What do?
To consider:
>New England seasons
>College & work driver
>Not having kids for years
>No SUV/Truck whatever, want a nice sporty car
>Don't plan on modifying it much
>Hatchbacks and wagons make me cringe
>Used/new doesn't matter to me, but I don't know shit about cars, so I don't want a money pit

2012+ Jaguar XF

Honda Civc XE
Jaguar XJ. Literally spend 10 minutes driving on any highway and you'll spot one.
Would anyone be willing to pay $300,000 for a Cadillac again?
They are developing a sedan and SUV within this price range. Will they be laughed out of the segment?
Pic related is worth $300,000 now.
>>14833788
Old Cadillacs were actually affordable at the time- you didn't need to have a great job to afford one.
That's a rare classic and rare classic cars are valuable. People pay stupid amounts for them.
I think cadillac has destroyed their reputation far too much with all their shit cars, especially northstar cars, through the 90s and early 00s to attract buyers for a rolls-royce priced car.
They scrapped the CT8 or whatever it was called.
American luxury will never be great again. Germans win
>$300k car from murrica
>same shitty GM/ Ford build quality
Kek, Cadillac is gonna get their ass torn apart in that market. Why would anyone go for a Cadillac SUV instead for the new Bentley or something like that?
GM has raped Cadillac (and their other brands) so incredibly hard over the last decades that none of the old "american luxury" glamour is still there. People hear Cadillac and think "GM shit".
While it won't be for a couple years, the E46 and E92 are on the list of cars I'd consider as my next. I've always been under the impression the E92 has been numb as fuck to drive compared to the E46, can anybody attest to this?
The E92 has a better interior, obviously is faster and it's possible to find them not beat to shit, my concern with it however is reliability and just being numb to drive considering fun is one of my top priorities (as is reliability and comfy-ness of the interior). The E92 is also douchebag as fuck even by BMW standards
Also would buy manual for either FWIW.
i have a 2011 335i and it's really nice doesn't have a lot of space though, but I hardly haul around more than 3 people. It's fast and great on the twisties, I take it road tripping all the time and the interior is pretty comfortable. However my e30 feels much more raw although being much slower.
>>14833460
While the E30 isn't an E46, I have to ask; if you could only keep one which would it be?
Are you agressive when you drive, or do you actively practice defensive driving?
My mates always tell me how aggressive I am driving.
It's not like I lose my temper or something, I just speed a lot and take corners at high speed.
Never have been ticketed, though.
>>14830402
your car is basically a rube Goldberg of parts working in harmony to keep you on all four tires without sliding out while your pulling 20g's in that hektic corner.
Only takes one part to break for that whole machine to turn into a ball of flames with you knocked out in the drivers seat.
>>14830439
Yeah, I think about that sometimes. But I just can't drive slow, no matter the occasion. Unless I have a girl on the car that doesn't like it.
But even then, I somehow speed until she starts to annoy me.
I just get bored driving slow. When I go to uni I always crawl behind traffic but when I get a small patch of open road I just give it the beans. Sometimes up to 120km/h inside city limits.
I'd be fucked if I was caught.
next time ur m8s start being fags play this chune lad

I'm thinking of purchasing an OBD2 scanner since in this day and age having a car scanner is the best thing possible for Do it Yourself people. Which one does /o/ recommend. Pic related what I'm thinking of buying. Also mechanics are shit and overcharge don't be a pleb and invest in one of these.
Get something decent. You're gonna use it more than once so spend the money up front and get something good. I have both an innova 3030 and a 3100. The 3030 is a basic code reader that cost around $40. The 3100 is more robust in features, reads abs and displays the code as well as its meaning. It costs around $100.
>>14830221
>buying anything electronic from horror freight
>not buying a cheap autel from Amazon for less than $20
>not using a paper clip to short the terminal and make the car enter diagnostic mode
unless it can do ABS or airbags it's not worth the extra money /thread
>>14830221
If you are interested in reading/clearing codes and maybe read some sensor data, then just buy a $20 Bluetooth OBDII reader on Amazon and spend $5 on the Torque app on your phone.
Hi /o/ pals!
I'm a typical "gear head" like you guys. I'm having a hard time choosing between two super shitty cars. I know there are better cars out there in the same price range, but I am choosing between two super unreliable and terrible build quality cars.
Because I'm an enthusiast like you fellows!!!
I'm sure you'll be thrilled to give me advice on which terrible car I should purchase. Can't wait to hear your opinions. Thanks!!!
I'd pick the 3 wheeled car. Fuck electric.
>>14828215
Never understood why people buy Cars that are know to be shit.
>>14829290
Because if you turn it into a high performance vehicle that'spretty damn cool.
Is it true that carburetor engines were shitty and unreliable to daily drive? In old movies you always see scenes of people on the side of the road with their cars not working because of faulty carbs.
yes. efi is much more reliable in general.
Difference being you can fix a carb on the side of the road. You clan't fix an ECU or most other breakdown problems at the roadside on modern cars.
A carb is much simpler than fuel injection but it is more sensitive to temperature, moisture etc.
>>14827408
What old movies are you watching?
>check oil on your 20 year old truck after 2000 kms and 16 hours without stopping
see this
>feel good man
did you wipe it out your ass?
Pretty sure it's not supposed to be red.
>>14833561
it's synthetic
how do u guys stop in a manual tranny? downshift or neutral coast/brake?
also general transmission thread
>>14827146
depends how I feel. clutch out in neutral and brake
engine brake
or if I'm feeling uber balling, engine brake down to idle speed, kill the engine, switch to ON, and use the engine resistance to come to a complete stop.
>>14827146
Usually downshift all the way to 2nd, assisting with brakes if I'm coming in too fast, then clutch in when 2nd is at 1.5k and brake to stop. If I'm feeling lazy I'll sometimes only go down to 3rd.
I typically use both engine breaking and a bit of breaks as well. I drive a pickup though and I find with all that weight its quite a bit easier and quicker to come to a stop with both. Also easier on my pads.
Hello everyone.
I currently own a 2005 Subaru STi. I love the car but I am kind of getting tired of the attention that it gets. I also recently purchased a Ducati superbike so having two purpose built track machines seems redundant. I am looking into something more understated but still fun and unique.
How does the e46 M3 compare? I love the looks of the car but I am going to miss the 5 seats and AWD. I also want something that is going to ride more as a luxury vehicle and it seems the m3 carries out the same sporty feel as the STi.
I am open to suggestions. Thank you.
05s are slow so are you getting attention from gay guys?
>>14826775
05s are just as fast if not faster than 15s
I know some people tend to gravitate toward Audi after to calm down after the Subie life. If you like the M3 I imagine it's similar.
Although the 05 STI is literally my teenage dream car, if I ever had one I'd never want to sell it
thinking of picking this thing up so i can togue, eternal and chrome

My heart says yes, but my brain says no.
How does it feel knowing that within a decade you won't be able to drive your car anymore? Manual driving is going the way of the past. Cars are shipping with autopilot as a stock option and unless someone creates a kit to convert an existing car into a self-driving model complete with interfacing with nearby vehicles, eventually laws are going to be passed to get manual driving off of the road for the safety of mankind.
What are you gonna do with your car after the auto revolution and you can't legally drive it in cities or on major roads anymore?
I don't know about the rest of the world, but we'll be driving our own cars in America for a good long while. Hell, they can't get GUNS banned, they're a long damn way from banning non-autopilot cars.
>the hundreds of millions of vehicles on the road won't be grandfathered in
how can you be so stupid
>>14833264
This. I bring this up everytime. I don't even legally need to wear a seatbelt in my truck because of grandfathering.
How much shit will I get from the world and 4chan in general if I do pic related to my car?
Painting fake rust is faggotry. Intentionally rusting a car is even worse.
>>14832697
That's mildly disappointing
My integra got stolen :(
