Why are used STI so expensive? And when will the depreciation curve for Fiesta ST level out?
Because it is a very good car.

High demand, low supply
Ok guys I'm getting super nervous about next week. So I'm 19, never had a job basically cause up until I was 18 living with my parents they practically wouldn't let me get a job. Long story, abusive parents. ive been with my gf since we were 16 and I just moved in with her and her parents.
Her parents love me even her dad though I always feel like shit cause they've already done so much for me.
Her dad owns a big shop that has a few bays for servicing cars/trucks and then like 10 more big bays for semis/trailers they work one.
Hes been waitin on this guy to quit for about a year and always said he'd hire me on if I wanted. So now I start Monday. I have absolutely no mechanical knowledge at all. Ive never worked on a car besides replacing a battery and changing a tire and few bulbs.
He knows all this and said they'll teach me.. but im so nervous about disappointing/failing cause its my gf's dad who has helped me not be homeless/live in a shitty home/fed me/etc.
Are there any good online mechanic training things I could mess with to familiarize myself with more basics? Like I don't even know names of a lot of tools outside of stuff like hammers/screwdrivers/sockets/wrenches. I had him ask me if I had used an impact before and I had no idea what it was til he told me and i felt stupid.
plz halp thanks anons
>>17726272
will you be working on the semis or the regular cars or do you know?
and for my own curiosity are you getting paid or is this basically you earning your keep living with him?
youll probably need tools of your own too most shops like that have specialty tools for you but your're required to have your basics
>>17726326
he said ill kind of float around and hell put me on easier stuff to learn when he can otherwise ill be helping work on the semis. he said the semis are actually usually easier to work on cause theyre meant to be serviced and worked on and a lot of the newer cars are more complicated and annoying so ill work my way up to that.
and yea pay is going to be $15/hr until Jan 1 then if everything is going well he'll bump me to the standard $18/hr. $15/hr is their usual training wage that people are on for 3-6 months.
and he helped me with tools too, he bought me this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0732NJSTV/ref=psdc_553402_t4_B01GWD834I
I'm paying him back half of it with my first paycheck and he said we're good.
I have no issue with working hard and trying to learn.. just jumping into mechanics like this feels so intimidating cause im gonna be working with a bunch of people that have been doing their jobs for 10-30 years and I havent touched hardly anything before.
i knew bothing about cars and i still dont really but i do work on semi trucks even though ive never drove or moved one
trust me air brakes are fun to change
i just started out sweeping andbthen learned how to change oil and stuff
I am looking at a new car specifically an 01 BMW 330ci.
Is the reliability just a meme or can I can buy this if the owner was on point with maintenance and not have to worry about major issue?
https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/d/2001-bmw-330ci/6264357722.html
>>17726189
My brother has owned a '04 330ci for like five years now, great car. Keep on point with servicing and it'll run like a dream, but just make sure you or your mechanic check all the basic stuff before you buy it or you can end up paying an arm and a leg for genuine BE EM DOUBLEYOU parts.
all in all a fucking rad car. great engine, great road feel.

The m54 is pretty bulletproof.
for piece of mind I would do or the water pump, thermostat, ICV, PCV and coolant hoses. Then you will have no worries for about 60,000 miles.
If factoring that into the price puts it out of your budget look at a 328 or 325. both are really nice, have the same m54 engine with less displacement and can gain power with a tune and headers.
major thing on e46's is the subframe mounts tearing though. It isn't as big of a deal as people make it out; had a co worker with an m3 that drove a ripped floor for a year but it is a problem because its a hole in your chassis and rust can get in. reinforcement plates are cheap and can be epoxied in but be wary of it
>>17726189
make sure the subframe is ok and not cracked. make sure he's taken care of the cooling system. make sure it isn't rusted all to hell underneath.
Was riding on the highway at the speed of the flow, when eventually it got to a dead stop. I decided to lane split at about 30km/h and got beefed hard by a truck driver. He later caught up to me and began filming me (no longer splitting at this time, and didnt for the rest of the ride) while flipping me off saying he was going to report me to the authorities.
Not sure how likely it is I get fucked over for this because its not illegal to lane-split where I live, but apparently it isnt accepted by the general public.
tl;dr: Does it piss you off when bikers lane-split? Why does it piss you off?
Nothing wrong with it.

only time i care is when mr straight cut dentist on a harley or some kid on a sportsbike blows through at redline blowing my fucking head off
>>17726157
As long as you're not flying between cars I don't have a problem with it. 30km/h through stopped traffic sounds perfectly reasonable. It's illegal where I live though, so I've never actually seen someone doing it in person.
Fuck guys, been waiting for one of these to come up on cl that's not a complete shit heap as well as not being 5000+ dollars.
It's usually both.
Should I give up on trying to live the meme and just get an Rx7 or an Mr2? They're both so much cheaper.
Just do the right thing and buy a GTI

Supply and demand, They're pretty rare nowadays and lots of people want one. Good luck finding one in decent shape for $5k.

I wouldn't actually mind this feature, especially for utility, offroad, or emergency type vehicles. Imagine camping overnight in the middle of nowehere and your interior light flattens your battery for example. It wouldn't be hard to add, just make the scissor jack handle a bit sturdier and cut a hole in the bumper. Why not?
there is no chance im strong enough for a modern engine.
omg the kickstart on my bike nearly kills me
Back when hand cranked engines were popular/common you'd often have engines rated at 40-50psi per cylinder of compression
Today you commonly have something like 170-180psi per cylinder on standard 4-cylinder passenger cars... you can only imagine how much harder that is to crank, not to mention all the other stuff you have to crank around through the serpentine belt
And lets not get started on diesels. An old Toyota 2L-engine will easily have 500psi per cylinder on all four, meaning a total of possibly 2000psi
>>17725691
You can hand crank start a Tiger tank.
It has an interia starter, a big flywheel spins up and then gets engaged to start it.

Hey a buddy of mine is selling his 2004 BMW 325i for $2700, and I'm thinking of buying it for every day use. It has 180000 miles and he recently brought it to the shop and had everything fixed up. All of the reviews are incredibly mixed; it seems that some people think its the perfect car and for others it's a nightmare. Should I buy it?
>had everything fixed up
Elaborate.
water pump, alternator, battery, suspension items (LCAS, RTABS), fuel pump? What's been replaced and what hasn't, recently or ever?
None of this stuff is cheap and you're at about the right mileage for some of it to go out.

dont. save your money for a 330

Impressed at the A-pillar strength and design on that BMW. Many other drivers would have been decapitated in that situation.
