In your opinion /o/, what is currently the best base car that can then be modified in any way to become a well rounded racing car? Not just speed or power of the car, but weight distribution, suspension design, braking, drivetrain, etc. All those factors together to make a car that provides the best starting point.
Pic not related unless it is.

Would a 2000 Sedan Nissan Skyline 25GT R34 Auto with Low mileage be fine as a daily driver? Anyone have experience with Sedan Skylines, possible cheap first car for me.

Just buy an infiniti and save yourself the effort.

4 door skylines are sexy as fuak
I have a 96 xj cherokee all stock no mods. I was doing the fuel economy tests over these last few tanks of gas and I noticed that I get 15 miles to the gallon on 87 octane where as I get closer to 20 with 91 octane. Is this something to do with the new summer blend gas coming out, or is it actually based on the difference in the octane?
octane will not make a difference if its stock, certainly not from 15 to 20. Where you doing the same kind of driving? tire pressure the same?
I had a 96, maybe 97 4.0 4x4 5-speed xj as well. Got about 21 on the highway, 15 to 16 in the city.
Regular gasoline often contains 5 - 15% ethanol which will cause lower MPG as ethanol is less energy dense than gasoline.
>>14838459
so does premium. Unless the fuel says ethanol, it has ethanol.
Sup guys
Say I have an 04 jeep KJ/Liberty sport. I'm the second owner, I just got it. It cleared my mechanic and a family member who's got a LOT (45 years) of experience with cars, still gonna run it past GF's grandpa. It's in stunning condition, interior is pretty much perfect, few scratches here and there and that's about it. Exterior is perfect, not a scratch. 3.7L V6, 5 Speed manual, brand new brakes, only mechanical issue I've seen is the ebrake has a little play, not a huge deal. Which brings me to, mileage.
A lot.
245,8XX or so on the clock.
Which brings me to my question. Assuming I keep up on oil changes, cleaning, and keep it away from lots of salt, how long will the frame last? Just the frame. Transmission, Suspension, Engine, all of that can be replaced, but once the frame is done, it's all done. How long can I expect on it? Also, where are all of ya'll at milage-wise?
>Pic semi-related, not mine tho
>>14843895
assuming you dont live in an area with snow it should last long into the 400k or higher range. also inspect your frame check all suspension components and axles rear diff and front diff.
also that thing better be 4x4
>>14844051
Of course it's a 4x4 senpai, I ain't a bitch
I live in colorado tbqh so roads aren't exactly perfect but I live in a pretty well plowed area. I'll get the frame checked and the suspension but I'm probably gonna put it on coilovers because tbqh I'm not extremely into offroading. Might go for a lowkey sleeper build and nigger out and when this engine blows, just buy another 3.7 v6, forge dem pistons and boost it, tint it, and duct tape an srt6 badge on it and drive around bumping young thug
>>14844100
i chuckled at this post.
but on a serious note i wouldnt lower a 4 wheel drive suv reason being is risk of transfer case hitting something and drive shaft lock up from also hitting something. if you arent into offroading maybe you havent done it or just didnt "go hard in the mud" that much. im a honda dude and even i love offroading in my friends trucks. jeep is my favorite wet dream off road company i absolutely love the liberty and would love one that was 4x4 and manual
How do I stop my father from driving my car?
>just bought first (used) car, father understandably excited and wants to try driving it as well
>he's 61 now and his driving is getting worse
>has gotten in about three fender benders in four years
>can no longer drive at night
Thing is, he's also helping me by taking it to the mechanic's since I work early till late every day. So he's very invested in it.
>>14843830
Move out of your parents house you poor person.
Also why does your father have a key to it?
Also wrench on your own car so it doesn't need to go to the shop. If you bought the car why is it in and out of the shop?
>>14843830
You're an adult, right? So is he.
So take it to the mechanics in your lunch break or something
>>14843853
Working on it, this car is a first step.
Just bought it used, so just having the mechanic's do the usual.
>>14843855
It's a local mechanic that only my father has a good relationship with; they wouldn't give a fuck if it was me.
The whole world has a machine that pulls their pud for them, but you're still jerking yourself off because you enjoy the feel of a dick in your hand.

My personal favorite.
>be cruising at 20 under
>be constantly scanning the rearview mirror
>spot a car that you think you can beat
>wait for them to attempt an overtake
>begin speeding up
>if they manage to overtake you, you lose
>if they fail to overtake and look like an utter buffoon pulling back in behind you, you win
Hard mode: No downshifts allowed
>>14842728
>No downshifts allowed
go fuck your'reselves
>no cops around
>no traffic in front
>downshift into 4th
>floor it and hit about 80
>continue coasting back to speed limit
>>14842728
I do something similar, but not as dickish. If somebody is weaving in and out of traffic in the city because they're in "omg such a hurry", I will bait them into passing me, then when they change lanes I will speed up and block them behind another car. Then I'll speed up enough so that I will bait them into trying to pass THAT car, and once they change lanes I slow down and allow the other car to pass me. Then it just repeats.

What are the little black things on top of the bumper, behind the plate?
I've seen them of civics and other cars too. But only in Japan.
>>14842426
They are license plate heaters, it snows in japan and it is illegal to have snow covering your license plates.
Because of this all Japanese cars since the 80's have had to have them installed from the factory.
They don't all look quite like that, but they all have them.
License plate lights.
>>14842437
>Because of this all Japanese cars since the 80's have had to have them installed from the factory.
Then why doesn't my R32 have them.
I don't know anything about cars.
Bought a '97 Corolla for $1700. Had to fix the AC for $500.
116K miles. Still looks like a shit-box.
How do you guys buy used cars without fucking up? Everyone selling used cars in Houston are from the middle east. They're all crooked sales people.
Feels bad.
>>14841738
YOU CAN START BY NOT BEING POOR AS FUCK
SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF THRONE WERE YOU EXPECTING FOR YOUR DUMB ASS FOR LESS THAN 2K
I BET YOU ARNT EVEN 20 YET
In my experience you will rarely get a "good deal" from a dealer on a car older than 10 years. Opposite is true for cars that are 10 or younger (take over payments on my 2012 V6 camaro, give me 3k down. I owe 30k). Just keep on the CL and autotrader game.
>>14841762
i have to eat pay rent and internet
i had $4000 to spend but knew anything i bought under $5000 would need to be fixed
i just hate buying used cars. everyone is shady
