So /o/, I need opinions. I got this 88 fox body from my mom. She's been the only owner of it and to date it has a total of 137k on it. As time took its toll on her body she had to transition to cars that would be easier to drive but couldn't make herself give the car to me when I was younger. As a result it's just sat since about '07 and times also taken its toll on this once great machine. The sentimental aspects leads me to my question: at what point does it become worthwhile to just buy a new mustand instead of restoring a current one. If only be paying for parts and painting it as a friend of mine would be doing the labor/teaching me at no cost. He's a master mechanic for averit trucking so I don't doubt his credentials by any degree.

What is this a fucking blog get to the point

By 'new' I mean another Fox of course. I have a 2010 GT already this would just be the project. I also should mention that nothing aftermarket has been added to this one.

Well....I did get to the point. I asked; At what point does it become more worthwhile to simply buy another Fox instead of fixing up this one? But thanks for letting me know you didnt read fully.

Anyone know anything about electric fans?
I need to order a wiring harness for it but not sure which to choose.
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1982/toyota/corolla/cooling_system/auxiliary_fan_control_unit.html

I just want a switch to control the On/Off on it and not run off a sensor

Come on guys, help me so i can order it today.
Or i can order from a diff source
>>
>>14853563
Why not just wire up a switch with a relay and fuse if you want to be able to control it yourself?
>>
if your incompetent with electronics buy a light bar harness off amazon.

Shady mechanic stories?

>car starts overheating
>it's a friday and I'm out grocery shopping
>drop it off around 1 at the shop across the street and call a ride
>figure I'll have them disgnose it and then decide where to go from there
>they close at 5
>call back Saturday morning to see if they had a chance to look at it (because they claimed they would be able to get it right in)
>they haven't
>call again at around 15 minutes before close (2pm on Saturday) to check again
>no still haven't gotten it in to look at it
>tired of waiting
>pick it up right after they close with my spare key
>notice it hasn't been touched at all since I dropped it off
>disgnose it
>no signs of a blown headgasket so I rule that out
>remember my radiator fan giving me issues a couple months before that
>notice that it's not clicking on when I turn on my AC
>just need to figure out where exactly it's broken
>decide to wait on the shop
>don't call them monday
>shortly after work on Tuesday they call me and say they have a quote for me
>come in to look at it and pick up my spare
>guy hands me a quote and starts spinning a line of bullshit
>can hear hands rubbing together somewhere
>tells me it's a blown headgasket
>>>>>$3500
>lolno
>take my spare key
>ask exactly when they got it in to look at it
>he tells me monday afternoon right before they closed
>thought so
>leave

Only shitty experience really. There's one other shop I use for shit I don't have the space to do and they're conveniently the cheapest and most reliable place in town.

Is there any point to having splash guards on a sedan?

I was at a Honda dealership earlier and for some reason every single one of their cars comes with splash guards already installed, I'm not sure I like how they look.

What's a car or truck that women like to ride in, on a budget?

I know this question is stupid as hell but I've had multiple people in the past five years, including my long term girlfriend and my ex, tell me my car is dumb as fuck. It's my first car and while it's not really a sports car or a BMW, I bought it outright for $4k and it's been super reliable, usually only requiring $50-150 in repairs yearly.

I didn't think people gave too much of a shit about what kind of car other people drive, but clearly they do. In your experience, what are some cars or trucks that people really like? What are some that people hate? Why?

Recently bought a 2007 Civic SI with 145k and I noticed it's a little rough going into 2nd. I want to change the mtf but I don't know the previous service history on the transmission. I'm expecting the oil to be black and burnt. But I've heard horror stories of transmissions breaking after the fluid change. Do you think I should leave the old oil and hope it lasts or just drain and fill it?

You're thinking of the horror stories of post flushes. Those are usually automatics, which honestly, if they break after that, they were fucked to begin with.
>>
>tfw 14 year old shitbox
>never changed tranny oil EVER

How fucked am I? I know the tranny is the weakest part in my car, but Im not sure if changing the fluid will prolong it from failing, or just fuck my shit up faster.

this thing keeps looking better

>the only fiat parts are engine, body panels, and head/tail lights, everything else is mazda
>they're actually built in the same factory as the miata, so it'll have good quality control
>that 1.4 engine is super reliable in the 500 abarth and the dodge dart, it's the most reliable part of either car by far
>$1000 worth of tune and intake nets you 230 WHEEL horsepower http://www.hpsimotorsports.com/#!eurodrive-obdii-flash-phase-1/ca1o
>that tune is for the 500 which has a super cramped engine bay, imagine that on a way less restrictive intake and exhaust which the 124 engine bay allows
>even tuned, the engine just doesn't quit, plenty of stories of people going 10k miles already on that HPSI tune without a hiccup
>because of the fiat badge they're projected to depreciate as fast as the 500 abarth, meaning a 32k model will be only 23k after only ONE year
>comes with better shocks and springs standard, optional 4 pot brembos up front
>if by some miracle you manage to blow the engine up, almost brand new 2014 500 abarth engines are like 2 grand at a junkyard, pretty cheap for a newer engine

>if you want to go nuts, get a base 124 and build it up with top shelf coilovers and four corner brembos shit on top of the tune, it's the same engine anyway, and those base models will get REAL cheap REAL fast

i wonder how long until people realize how good it is and the price goes back up?

and by the way, at 230whp and 2400lbs, it has a power to weight ratio pretty similar to the mustang GT. (which is around 3700lbs and 381whp)

>because of the fiat badge they're projected to depreciate as fast as the 500 abarth, meaning a 32k model will be only 23k after only ONE year
Really doubt that.
This car will be a lot more exclusive than a 500.
Not to mention it's a revival of a really well known italian sports car.

>they're actually built in the same factory as the miata, so it'll have good quality control
Even then, Fiat has good quality control nowadays.
My Punto is reaching 50k kms and not a single rattle whatsoever.

I just saw this car, supposedly has 5000 hp and 560km/h tops speed. Why so much people hating on this? Its because there are no tests anywhere and people think it's fake? or because arabs made it?

those tailpipes are totally non functional

those wheels are so fucking niggerish its pitaful

the body pannels on the side look of the same quality of a cheap kit car

i could go on

but mainly

NO ONE HAS TESTED IT

SO IT DOESNT RUN
>>
Need to see tests first. Doesn't matter who made it. You can't make claims without proof. Its just common sense.

I call bullshit. Until I see verified proof, I don't believe it.

Oh and Muslims have all this money, better send all those Muslim immigrants to Germany. Seriously, we are so blind.

I always wonder, why do people not like VW's? They're safe, reliable, easy to work on, fuel efficient, relatively easy to get parts for, cheap and comfortable (but not luxurious). The only thing they lack in is performance and, depending on tastes, looks.

Doesn't make a different if Pedro or Mohammed assemble the car. What matters are the parts that are used.

What is a handsome amount of shekels to spend on your first car?

Decide the price and then what car I should look into, if you will. thank you.

I've got a question, /o/. I've saved up a little over 10 grand, and I want to buy a second car (2000 F-150 is my current DD). I want something import, 60's-70's, sporty, small, and something I can work on. I've been scrutinizing Craigslist and I've narrowed my choices down to two cars: the Datsun 240z & Porsche 914. Which one should I get?
18 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Get a 280z, they're cheaper, newer, and look the same apart from the safety bumper which you can take off. Not a 280zx though, those look like ass.
>>
Honestly, just save yourself the trouble and spend $5000 on aluminum oxide. Pocket the other $5000.
>>
914 drives and handles like a VW (not that it is bad)
280Z is the better option objectively
