Why aren't more automaker specializing in electric vehicles? They're better than ICE in every way, the demand is huge, yet virtually all new cars are still using old gas engines.
What gives?
>>15131653
>Electric cars are still too expensive
>The infrastructure for cars favors guzzoline
>The range of e-cars is not practical for long distance driving
>fully charging an e-car takes several hours vs a few minutes refueling a petrol car.
Ideally e-cars today are made for people who live in cities (or have a short commute to/from one) and have enough income to buy the car and have a secure place to charge the battery. While it's possible to make long distance drives, it takes forever.

ITT: We talk about our automotive workplace. I'll start.
>Do you work in a dealership, parts store, shop chain, or a smaller shop?
Dealership, Acura
>What's your job title and duties?
General Service Technician, perform basic maintenance (brakes, fluids, parts monkey, pre-delivery inspections, tires)
>How long have you been at your current job?
7 months
>Do you enjoy your job?
Yeah, other than when I get fucked on tickets, or get repetitive bullshit waiters. Co-workers are cool and help each other out, helps a lot with getting pissed at cars.
>Pros of your workplace?
Climate controlled shop, nice equipment, Snap-On boxes for techs to borrow, in ground lifts, car wash around back, people always want to help out.
>Cons?
Owner is a cheapskate so we're left out of BG products for this 'Service Pro' shit. So we don't get free pocket screwdrivers or funnels anymore. A/C in shop is set to 80*F, always hot as fuck.
Some service writers have shit-all for communication, promise cars in unreasonable time.
>Notable things that have happened?
Lol quick lube service writer smashed an MDX into a brand new RDX.

How do you not understand? I'd fill the post out but I'm working
I'm about to land my first job out of college and will be pulling in about 40k. According to my financial advisor, I will be stuck with my paid off 06 Camry for the foreseeable future. According to him I shouldn't budget more than 10% of my monthly income for car payments. That does not bode well for me.
Just out of curiosity- how much money do you make per year? What car do you drive? Was it a smart financial decision? Do you regret it?
I really want to treat myself to a car now that I will have a stable non-part time job, but I just can't seem to justify to cost.

A family friend of mine is selling her '96 prelude..
It's only had two owners, both have babied the car. Car's got 160k miles.
Only thing she knows it needs for sure is new struts, but the original owner bought the car lowered from the factory so I'm not sure if thatll mess up anything if I were to DIY the struts.
I've only ever done oil changes and replaced an alternator/timing belt, so I'm not certain on how hard replacing struts would be.
Would this be a good investment to fix up and sell at a later date? Only preludes in my area are in much worse condition or modified, and are priced higher as well. I could probably get the car for around 1700.

I recently test drove about 20+ different new (2016 model year) cars...Ranging from Mustang, Camaro, Miata, Focus ST, BMW 340i, Mercedes C450, Subaru WRX STI, and many others.
I leased an Audi S3 for $1000 down, at $495 a month. Brand new, pretty much loaded with an MSRP of $50,500.
And out of everything I drove I find it to be a spectacular vehicle, an incredible daily driver and weekend racer.
I don't understand why everyone hates on Audi so much? What is it you guys specifically don't like?
Here's what I've experienced with me S3 and I'll compare it to my second and third choices which were the BMW 340i and C450:
1. Much less expensive
2. Much better grip. I find the new Haldex Quattro system to be super responsive and I don't find any of the complaints I've read about the older versions to be valid on their latest iteration.
3. Light. Much lighter and more nimble than the 340i or the C450.
4. Faster. Fuck is this thing fast. It is definitely faster than the 4.7 seconds Audi quotes 0-60. I'm doing 4.6 right now and the engine hasn't even finished breaking in yet.
5. Exceptional infotainment and stereo system. I have the Audi Concert System no the B&O, and it is phenomenal.
6. Great interior build quality with excellent seats. I really like Audi's minimalist design aesthetic in comparison to the C450 which I feel is overdone, and the 340i which is too spartan.
7. Looks. I think the Audi looks better. The BMW crowd is full of fratboy-Chads and douchebags. The Mercedes crowd is too stuffy. Audi sits in a good middle niche...More 'James Bond' than the other too.
8. Daily Driver vs Weekend Racer. This car is amazing when you just want to be comfortable. You set it to 'Comfort' and the magnetic ride and everything just adjusts. When you set it to 'Sport' it wakes up the whole vehicle and it goes like a bat out of hell.
I'm seriously won over by Audi now that I've owned the car for a few months.
>Audi sits in a good middle niche...More 'James Bond' than the other too.
whew
Comparing the weights between an S3 and a C class or 3 series is wrong in the first place as they are different class vehicles
And the RS3/S3 is proven to be very bland when compared to the 135i/235i
I'm doing 4.6 0-60 and the engine isn't even broken in yet... that's when I stop reading
>I'm doing 4.6 right now and the engine hasn't even finished breaking in yet.

car sex and cop encounter in one story! (not me)
>me and gf having sex in the car
>decide to do anal
>pumping away she starts to get cramps
>continue only for a few minutes and she screams
>look down and shes really going crazy freaking out. Shes crying and screaming.
>look down and there is blood and shit coming out of her vagina. Yes real shit too.
>panic and dont know what to do, there is a tap at the window.
>someone heard her screaming and came over, saying they are calling the police and they have my license plate
>jump into the front and peel out of there, taking gf to hospital
>she stays over night.
>cops are at my house in the morning
>ask to see the car, see blood and shit in car, want to arrest me
>get cops to call hospital and confirm my story
>almost arrested for murder
Turned out my gf got something called a fisher, where the wall between her rectum and her vagina ruptured and blood and shit was falling out of her vagina. It was probably the worst 2 days of my life.

Enjoy witnessing the small overlap chew through some 2016 Mustang, Camaro, & Challenger-shaped sardine cans.
Dodge does the worst. Again.
www.autoblog.com/2016/05/24/iconic-sports-cars-fail-to-meet-top-iihs-crash-test-standards
>all fell short of both Top Safety Pick+ and Top Safety Pick status, something that 65 other 2016 models achieved in prior testing.
>On the organization's small-front overlap test, which mimics the impact of the front quarter of the car with a fixed object like a parked vehicle or tree at 40MPH, the Camaro was the only model to achieve a "good" ranking. The Mustang earned an "acceptable" mark and the Challenger had "marginal" performance. Researchers found extensive intrusion on the Challenger, and "limited survival space for the driver." Measurements taken on the crash-test dummy indicated a "high likelihood" of serious leg injuries
>The dummy's left foot was entrapped and its ankle deformed. Technicians had to unbolt the dummy's foot from its leg to free it from the wreckage. That's only happened five other times in the organization's small-overlap testing history.
>"When these vehicles go off the road in a single-car crash, it's often in a small-overlap configuration," Lund said, "so that's an important result." 43% of car-occupant deaths occurred in single-vehicle crashes in 2014, the latest year for which federal data is available.
>>15131004
>Overall, the Challenger was the worst-performing car of the group. The Mustang came closest to achieving Top Safety Pick status, Lund said. Its small-front overlap rating holds it back, but otherwise it outperforms both its competitors in roof strength. Strong roofs are especially important for sports cars, which have among the highest driver death rates in single-vehicle rollovers, IIHS says.
>IIHS doesn't typically crash-test sports cars because they comprise a small overall share of the consumer market. But insurance data shows sports cars have the highest losses among passenger vehicles for crash damage repairs under collision coverage, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute.
