Anyone have experience with the W12 versions of these? I've recently got into looking at them and am realizing I am slowly convincing myself to buy one. I am already aware that repair costs can throw a person into bankruptcy, but that isn't an issue for me. I just want to know exactly how problematic can they be and how dependable they are. Thanks for the comments in advance.

Any parts besides consumables are expensive as fuck. Unless you live near an amazing indie vw shop you have to take it to a shop that has a certified phaeton technician. Lots of parts have to come from germany.

Buy the cleanest one you can find and it'll save you money in the long run. Make sure it has maintenance records. I'd get a vagcom reader to communicate with the computer or a bluetooth obd2 and torque pro to keep an eye on the engine.
>>
>>15199165
I knew about the special tech, I know a local dealer has a tech because they sold the Phaetons when they were available in the states. I'm still on the look for a indie shop because I know VW like to rape you with the hour charges.

There's one by me that has 120k miles on it and has every single maintenance done to the car, at least that's what they say. The millage scares the hell out of me, seems a bit high, though I haven't found an example with lower millage. It is an 11 year old car, so I imagine it would have some gremlins.

post a link

VWs typically have weird intermittent electrical issues. I'd read on a forum about common problems.

Can /o/ give me a real reason of why the Toyota Prius is hated by many people? (Can you also draw the photo?)

>>
Because to make the battery it causes pollution equivalent to two nuclear coal stations running for 6 months each.
>>
>>15198861
Holy shit.
>>
The hate is typically towards the owner. The stereotype that they are somehow better than everyone else.

It's the same for BMW, Mercedes, Audi, big trucks, Mustang owners, etc. It's almost never the car, it's the owners.

>>
>>15199005
Gmc is literally rebadged chevy, like that's the peak rebadging era for them that you picked.

Also
>them GM fuel pumps in that era
>that water pump whine

Ford is king for a reason. They're consistently good enough and cheap and fast to fix compared to the others
>>
>>15199182
A rebadged nicer feeling/looking chebby, the only real reason I'd want one is the square body of the 90's. But the F150 always appeals to me, for some reason theres mostly only standards/ short beds.

Both are widely available used and pretty much invincible.

Rangers will be cheaper because people are idiots and fan boys pay the "Toyota tax"
>>
Get a Ranger. My grandfather bought one brand new in 89. Only thing we have replaced is the clutch, sparK plugs, brakes, and tires. It has over 300k miles on it, and I still routinely use it to haul things and tow a john boat. It's literally unkillable

I'm looking to get a small 4x4 to take offroad. I'm not really looking for a daily driver, but I'd like it to be at least somewhat comfortable.
I mainly want to just take it mudding or to the beach. Not really interested in the more difficult stuff for it like rock crawling, at least not right now.
I'm looking at a few different things, which one would be my best bet?
Wrangler YJ - http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5612360092.html
Cherokee - http://ocala.craigslist.org/cto/5618469520.html
Geo Tracker 4WD - http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5597574304.html
Hilux - http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5615123560.html
Tacoma -http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5618409760.html
XTerra - http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5616011871.html
Isuzu Amigo - http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5616636575.html

I'm mostly leaning towards the Tracker, Amigo, or the Wrangler, since I like that kind of body style. I also like an SUV over a truck since I can hold more people if I want to go with friends or drive it in the city.

Thoughts?

The yj will be the easiest for modding and finding parts

The amigo and geo tracker will be by far more fun and you'll be able to hit trails and shit in them you can't in basically any other because of the very short wheel base and narrow width
>>
Kia Sportage. Will beat yj.

I keep reading that this car has shitty interior. Could it be that the European spec has a lot nicer interior than the Scion shit? I know VW sells cars to the US with lower quality materials than in Europe, how about Toyota?

Given the following guide lines, what would /o/ choose for an engine for this cunt?
- Cannot be retardedly expensive for the block nor parts(this rules out exotic as fuck engines)
- Must be capable of producing atleast 250HP, low in the rev range(muh cubes)
- parts availability

I'm not afraid of building a block from scratch, and would actually prefer it over a crate engine purchase(have done it many times before and find it somehow relaxing). I do have the ability to machine small parts(such as brackets, pulleys, etc)

Does not specifically have to be ford, nor V8, nor even gasoline powered.

I would prefer to stay away from EFI, though.

ITT: obscure cars we think are neat.

This is the MP Lafer, a Brazilian car from the 70's designed as a tribute to post-war British sports cars. The designer, Percival Lafer, thought that cars of the time were too boring-looking, so he decided to start making cars that were looked as good as their performance.
