Looking for a reliable long-lasting commuter wagon for ~6K, lower mileage is better, must be standard transmission. I will not be modding it, and I'm planning on taking it for lots of outdoor weekend trips, so something AWD would be best. Any suggestions? Currently my mind is set on the Subaru Outback ('99-'04)

I've seen the sticky, Merc/BMW is out of my price range, and I'm not too sure on Volvo.

subie impreza wagon is also a good call. Honestly subies are the only thing that is both cheap and plentiful for your scenario.
>>
>>15272042
Yeah mate, you basically described a 4 cylinder Outback, and then said you were keen on the Outback.

I'd say you know what you need.
>>
>>15272042
The Subaru Outback was literally just a Subaru Legacy wagon with a lifted suspension. any 1995-2004 Legacy. Forester r Outback will suit your needs.

Also something to remember. The front/rear power split on Subaru's does vary by transmission. If you get the automatic, the split is 90/10, so it might as well be a FWD Honda Civic. The manual transmission cars though have a 50/50 split and, as a result, are MUCH better in inclement weather.

You snapped the parking brake cable. That's it. $20 part from anywhere on the internet. Now quit crying.
>>
>>15271631
you don't need a lug wrench. do you have a spare tire jack? lift the side of the car, try to spin the wheel by hand. it's probably fine.
>>
>>15271631
The pbrake is disabled, as you just snapped the cable to tighten it. Just make beeping noise to counter your cars beeping noises and go about your day

Former f body guy here. All that seems legit just depends on how it was put together. I recognize all those parts and personally had some of them. But that price is way way too high. I wouldn't pay over 10k. The mods seem good and all but he's counting on getting some of that money back with that price.
>>
>>15271266
Some of what's listed is like "yeah whatever" but overall if true, it's legit. Totally agree with previous anon he's asking too much. I'd personally not pay a dime more than 8k but f bodies are plentiful here in Cali.

That for 1200? I'm very suspicious that something is wrong . . . Go and ask about it, if it feels good (and objectively looks good and runs good) then get it.
>>
>>15270710
says it needs some work on one of the front hubs, but that it runs very well.

I like the idea of all of the new edelbrock parts on the engine.
>>
>>15270517

As one of the anons who owns a square body, something is wrong for that price.

Check it head to toe for rust or botched repairs on it all over, frame to cab to windows and floor pans. Seems fishy to have newer parts and still be that price, but by all means go look at it.

In my experience anyone who would paint something camo doesn't give a shit beyond loud exhaust and big tires so maintenance and the body/frame/drivetrain suffer.

If the body and frame isnt fucked, and you have the money and means, a brand new warrantied 350 is $1499 free shipping to your door from summit, with an edelbrock 600cfm carb and headers you're looking at 230-250 at the crank, more if you spend the extra $800 for the 290hp base crate 350.
