I bought a used car 6 months ago. Everything has been fine so far.
1 week ago I went to get the brake fluid flushed and the mechanic calls me up and says someone put some kind of red fluid into the brake lines that is definitely not brake fluid. He then refused to do the flush and said I would need to take it to a dealership.
Any idea what the fuck is going on? The brakes are working just fine.
People often mistake cherry slushy for brake fluid
Who the fuck even flushes their brake fluid, honestly? Was there a problem with the brakes?
What is going on is that your "mechanic" is an "idiot".

it should have been a young persons car if they turbo'd the 1.5 instead of cramming the 2.0L in it
The best cars are from this era. 1996 gave us standard OBD2, passenger airbags, air conditioning, and the start of better safety in general. 2002 was the mean time for the end of our favorite cars (Supra, E39/38/46, R34, most coupes in general, first gen WRX, etc.), the birth of modern pigfat, and the tidal wave of SUVs taking over the roads. Agree/Disagree?
Couldn't agree more. Add this to the list of great cars ended in 2002.
But the SL has always been good. Even now.
It is also great for cars that transcend the 1996 barrier like the M3 because you can swap parts between the two and get the best of both.
>>15373182
i highly aree with you and this is the reason all 5 of my cars are from 85 to 96.
i dont give a shit about tech in a car other than OBD2. all i want is to have fun when im driving, and feel connected to the car, like im the one actually doing the work. not the computer.
im a big fan of manual steering, manual gearbox, and maybe a radio, depending on what kind of driving im doing.
One order coming up: One new car and some innovation to go with it, make it fast!

My piece of shit neighbor keyed my girlfriend's car. I know it was him but I can't prove it.
What's more chickenshit than fucking with a man's automobile?
Op is the crazy neighbor blaming everything on his neighbors.
Your car was keyed elsewhere. Don't blame it on your neighbors.

I've never owned a car before, and I could use some help figuring out if I'm looking at a good opportunity or a total money pit.
A family member (who has previously been very trustworthy) is offering to sign over a 2001 AWD Volvo V70 XC with 175,000 miles on it for $0. Insurance and future repairs would be on me. No accidents for the car's entire history. Tires and brakes are fine, and it just passed emissions this month, but see below.
The only issues he said it had were that it's got a persistent Check Engine light on it that nobody has been able to figure out, but doesn't seem to be impacting performance in any notable way--he mentioned it's either a cracked J-hose or an ECU replacement, but otherwise he estimated it'd take somewhere around $1500/year to keep it on the road. Insurance quotes are looking like $400/six months.
The car type seems right--I'm going to be in central Pennsylvania, and it handles very well in the weather.
For context, I'm trying to optimize for reliability--I just need an A-to-B car for about a year, maybe two. Thoughts? If I'm leaving out any important info, let me know.
Picture is the car in question.
80% of persistent check engine lights have been over bullshit, if it's still pushing inspections go for it, volvo wagons are cozy.

You looking to start your own meth empire, OP?
OP those year XC70s are known for costly transmission issues
I'd say take it, it's free after all. But when the tranny goes to shit move on.
You can custom order a burger. But you can't custom order a car?
I want a Company custom make me a car with whatever engine I choose whatever drivetrain I choose whatever interior I choose however many doors or trunk or whatever. I want to choose.
Why do car companies get to choose what millions of people drive. They get to choose what the cars look like and what engines they will have.
Not anymore.
Sure you can get it custom. It's gonna cost you though.
>>15372897
Yup. Any custom shop will be happy to indulge you - for a price. Or you can make it yourself.
Money or time....
Well they sell a million times many hamburgers as cars probably, so take a guess.

I like Maximas and they're pretty good DDs, but something makes me think this is too good to be true. Can a low mileage actually sell for this without any strings attached?
The 3.5L VQ engines (not sure what year they introduced them) are prone to burning oil but it's not too bad. It's a manual so you should be fine in terms of avoiding transmission issues (the 6 speed auto on the 04-06 models is literally a ticking time bomb). VQs have a tendency to have the timing chain need servicing somewhat prematurely so make sure to have that checked out.
Other than that they make reliable cars even if the paint quality of Nissan cars isn't the greatest. Electrics for that gen are usually rock solid as well. Crappy on gas but what would you expect from a heavy FWD V6? Good luck.

too big for my taste, but will be comfy if youre fat, i really always liked the back seats, the turning radius is atrocious tho
>>15372805
I'm lanky as fuck and would prefer to cop a Prelude or a 240SX (but lol ricetax), but I've heard good things about these and the price is undeniably attractive. Never heard about the turning though, I thought these were relatively sporty handling cars for the size?
>>15372773
Thanks for the info, my dude. What's the average MPGs on them? I'd expect low-mid 20s but I'm not looking for a Prius so that's fine.

>pull into shop have to let it idle while checking moon roof power locks windows etc.
>time to put gas in it

This is why you need a fuel gauge, kids.

>Conserve momentum all the way to the gas station, but now going quite slow - have to turn a corner as well

Why did they just drop this engine?
Fuck me, why does America never get the good Japanese cars? It's not fair. All the cars we got that uses this engine natively weren't good enough for it, they were big and wallowy
If they put this in a small nimble light hatch then they'd have a Civic killer.
Anyone?

>drove home from mechanics, didn't get cold but whatever I live close and it's hot
>next morning drive out of garage and ac is really cold
>drive home from work and ac doesn't get cold again
Is this normal? I live really close to work also, so I didn't drive for too long from the mechanic or from work. Should I just try driving further? Is it better to let the ac get cold with the windows down, or up, or what? Please help I don't want another bad compressor ;-;
>>15372487

I have a budget of about $500 CAD a month to lease a car for 48 months.
My top choice right now is a GTI that I would ECU tune.
Are there any other cars in this price range worth leasing that offer the comfort and speed that a GTI would?

nissan micra
