I'm in the market for a first car, with a budget of around $7500CAD (5800USD). My brain tells me to buy an econobox that'll be reliable/have good gas mileage, but my heart keeps pulling me away. I'm big on wagons, and I'm sorely tempted to pick this up. Thoughts?

I wouldn't pick that up personally...

That's going to be a money pit, rather get something cheap and reliable and later when you have the money buy the car you really wanted

Don't be trapped in debt from a young age just because you wanted to look cool to your friends

Why does /o/ shit on Mercedes so much?

>high reliability marks
>only company that still offers a V8 in a compact sedan
>entire fleet save for it's low priced economy cars are all RWD
>unmatched interior quality
>creates jobs in America and pays their workers well
>has a full range from compacts all the way up to semi-trucks
>oldest car company in existance
>superior build quality
>offer powerplants ranging from electric all the way up to V12
>bringing back glorious I6 layout as BMW shifts to turbo I4 engines
>highest build quality from a non Japanese company period
>actually affordable to run if you avoid dealerships
>diesels that perform better than hybrids and don't cheat emissions
>immense stress on safety, but not enough to interfere with driving feel
>superior highway handling

When did "/o/ shitting on mercedes" become a thing? there was a thread hours ago worshiping old mercedes bricks.

The only german auto group that gets shit on a lot from what i've seen is VAG and occasion, BMW but that's mostly because their fans can be the the loudest screaming of the german 3.

Mercedes builds cheap shit that gets sold for top dollar. Thats why.
Just like bmw and audi

So do most car companies

Yeah it's absolutely retarded and been done many times in various forms.
There a reason that all the engineers in the automotive world and all the money hasn't come to this conclusion. It's shit, expensive, and entirety impractical.

I'm selling my Evo. But I'm kind of new when it comes to wheeling and dealing. What is a tactful way to tell someone when you've already received a higher offer than what they are offering? Do you just say I've had a higher offer or do you also say the amount. I'm thinking of saying 'I've had an offer for $X, but if that falls through I'll keep your offer in mind'.

Any other tips for negotiating price?

>>15384920

just say you aren't willing to go under the price you've specified. if you say you've received a higher offer they'll just question why you haven't taken it instead and think you're full of shit.
>>
>>15384953
Well the highest offer I received is still under my asking price so I'm waiting to see if I get any other offers.
>>
>>15384964

So the jeep is a '99
> 155,000 miles
> 4 cylinder/5spd manual
> rare Intense Blue Pearlcoat paint (Not a huge fan of it in person, looks too "Kandy" for me)

Old dude is selling because he can't install child seats for his grandkids in it.
Went and checked it out, it drives and runs fine, a bit dirty but not abused

Talked him down to 4k USA from his asking of 5.

He doesn't have any maintenance records for it, but it seems to be in nice shape and well taken care of, previous owners were old people too.
Are the 4cyl jeeps decently reliable? Does it likely need a full overhaul like a 4.0 would at that mileage?

If not, what are some wear items that would be good to replace asap? Serpentine belt (?) looked alright, so did the timing chain.

I'm coming from a Miata so the lack of speed isn't an issue for me, just want a fun lil truck for the summer that can still do alright in the snow

I'm pretty sure it's a very good deal for a TJ, but I still find myself on the edge for some reason, mostly because I won't be able to run it on the touge every day/night like the MIat (I live in the foothills of the Rockies, amazing mountain driving roads 5 min from my house in any direction)

Any input and memery appreciated

So many jeep threads today.

Not a good DD and really the 4 cylinder is meh at best. I would get some awd instead. It also doesnt have the power for steep hills and bigger tires. So not a good DD and not a good trail vehicle so no.
But if you love the look of it and can get over how bad of a daily drive it is and the lack of power, go for it.
(still no)
>>
>>15384891

That would be a great price if it was a 4.0L, but the 4 banger isn't terrible, especially with a manual. They do fine offroad in 4 lo, but on the highway with hills you might find the power lacking. At that price, I'd probably grab it, and if power became an issue do a drivetrain swap some summer while dd ing the miata.

So, aftermarket seats. What's your opinion on them /o/? I'm looking at some Recaro Speeds for my miata since my stock seats even with foamectomy are too high for me. Also I got them at a good price ($650 a pair).

Any other good seats with room for a 5/6 point harness at a similar pricepoint?

What seats are you running in your car?

Don't think you can go wrong at that price. Perfect boyracer/daily seats, and you'll be able to resell them at close to that price all day everyday.

Nah, it's some weird import business. They had ordered a bunch for some club, I think subaru guys, and not everyone paid for their seats, so they had to get rid of them.

Is the practice of replacing all filters and oil a good idea even if a used car was already inspected?

All my tanks show max levels since it just rolled off the dealership yesterday, and it seems like a waste to just flush it all already.

Why aren't there any supercharged V6s, 4cylinders, or rotaries? I see plenty of these turbo'd, and plenty of supercharged V8s.
19 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>15384350
They exist, have you tried actually looking?

Miatas, while not a common power adder do get supercharged and Mercedes have supercharged several of their engines.

Rotaries in general respond better to turbos since Superchargers have some parasitic losses, and its a finicky engine to begin with.

how does snap on even stay in business? i needed a tool box and the prices they are sold for could be used as downpayment for a house. even their hand tools are way over priced. i can get the same tool from another brand for less like from matco, mac, and gearwrench. i went to harbor freight and bought a toolbox from them for 800USD compared to snap on which is 5000USD

Because Snapon offers warranty for professional use. Big box store tools often have it written right into the warranty that its void if there is suspicion that the tool was used or broken when used professionally.

Plus the quality tends to be much higher.

No rust on cars from Japan.

Op get a type r civic or integra. You can buy any turd Subaru here already but you can't find a type r around here at all. If they're left hand drive they're expensive.

Get a type r - a real drivers car. A real enthusiasts car.

Hey /o/ I need help finding a good first car, I have a decent budget and I think I'm reasonable in what I'm expecting.

Budget is 11k.
