Have you ever been high enough with your car to actually notice your car running out of breath?

I know electronics regulate stuff so that everything runs smoothly but I guess you'd notice it if you really give it to her hard and push the limits up there

Yes, a Jeep Grand Cherokee full of shit and towing a trailer around Breckenridge and the area was definitely losing some balls with the attitude. Kept wanting to downshift and run at like 5k rpm on mild inclines while it had no problem with the stuff further east.
>>
Rented a 2015 v6 mustang and was at ~7000 feet altitude most of the time, up to 8k at one point.

It ran good but clearly didn't impress me. 305 HP is a lot but you already had to be revved high to get it. You can imagine I was in sport mode the entire time up at 5k+ RPMs to get power out of the girl.

Made me appreciate my 2015 1.8t golf back home that much more. Really wish I had a turbo to play with at those altitudes.
>>
I can feel my N/A 1.8 loose power around ~2000m (~7000ft) Nothing drastic, it feels like having the AC on/off.

I am finally going to be able to afford a 15k car. I have been looking around but I don't know what to get. I read BMW 3 series are good. I found a cheap Acura TSX with rebuilt title. I would like other options. Any suggestions on what car I should get? No trucks, coupes, or vans. I'm sticking to a sedan or SUV. Thanks.

you have to be careful with rebuilt titles since it's a bit of a gamble. could have just been a simple wreck or it could be flood damage.
also make sure you get a dashcam
>>
>>15423085
Why would I need a dashcam?

>>
>>15422178
Yes.
They are made in Trollhättan still.
So as long as they use Swedish steel and swedish workers I'm in.

SAAB engines are torque monsters, and with Electric motors they are even more torqy.
That is if they do the right thing, by making them decently strong.

A thread for our beloved econobox pocket rockets. Talk experiences, ask for advice and questions and generally shitpost about the Fiesta ST.

>'French Master Race' Edition
The French used to be masters of the hotch hatch until this 1.6T generation. Will the French ever get back on top?

>What is a "Hot Hatch"?
A Hot Hatch is a manufacturer produced, performance oriented variant of a standard hatchback, designed for improved handling, increased top speed, acceleration and generally enhance the driving experience.

>Are all Hot Hatches FWD?
No. Whilst most Hot Hatches are FWD, some are AWD or even RWD.

>Isn't FWD shit?
No. Just because you can't get the arse out by stamping on the accelerator doesn't mean you can't have fun.

>Aren't Hot Hatches just for Europoors?
No; with the launch of the Fiesta and Focus ST to joining the MS3 and Abarth in the US, it seems like the Hot Hatch is beginning to take off on the other side of the Atlantic, but Europoors definitely have more choice.

>Is the Fiesta ST actually good?
The Fiesta ST is one of the best small hot hatches on offer at the minute; so yeah they're pretty good.

What happened to all the crazy 1950s design cues? It's like all imagination in creating cars died by the mid 60s. Top is a 1956 bel air and bottom is a 1966 bel air. In those 10 years a bunch of stuff disappeared in basically all cars like the bubble windshield, the crazy 2 tone paintjobs, the crazy bumpers, the shape of the side windows, the white wall tires, and so much more. What happened?

Taste changed.
Look at the change in design between the boxes of the 80s and the smooth curves of cars in the 90s. At the moment car design is a hybrid of the 2, with sharp angles and smooth curves combing

Anyone here paint their own car?
There's car I'm thinking of buying. Its a SIMCA Aronde from the late 50's.
It runs and drives, but needs new paint.

I'm considering using just a regular paint brush or maybe a roller.

People use to paint their cars with brush. 20 years ago its not uncommon to see cars or trucks painted with brush, especially in rural areas.

Been reading up on the "$50 Paint job"
Will this method work with paints other than Rustoleum?
I have checked local available paints and there are two types; Alkyd Oil Base, and Acrylic with fixer or no fixer. Both can be applied with a brush or roller. Which is best?

My friend painted his car with a foam roller and bright side polyurethane boat paint, Google it.
You layer it up then wet sand and buff it, looks really good and it's cheap.
It's a lot of work though.
You could just paint it and not wet sand and buff but it won't look as good.
I have painted a couple cars, it's expensive, time consuming and takes a lot of work.
It all depends on how professional of s job you want, but I recommend the boat paint fur a cheap and durable paint job.
>>
>>15415416
Also the nice part about the boat paint is you can do a cost per day and still drive the car, you don't have to have the car down fur the entire duration of the paint job.
