>harbor freight torque wrench
Any good? I've heard they save money by having no QC. So some of them are fine tools and others are just shit.
Should I just stick to kobalt or husky for a cheap torque wrench? I need ft-lb and inch-lb.
>>15430338
No complaints from my kobalt one.
Has anyone tested cheaper brands against brands like snap on or proto?
Are torque wrenches the one thing you shouldn't skimp on?
>>15430338
I had this same question. Bought 1/2 and 3/8 torque wrenches from HB and gave them to my dad who works at a big manufacturing company with a full shop, including torque wrench calibration machines. He tested them for me and one was about a lb off and the other was half a pound off. That was when they were new though. I've had the wrenches a couple years and should have him check them again.

No. Those came out about 3 years later.
I live in oklahoma and there are black guys teaching a bunch of teenage black kids how to turn a car into a donk in order to "get them interested in something, instead of joining gangs"
Why are black people so stupid? I hate donks and how would being interested in shitty ghetto cars stop someone from joining a gang?
They could at least teach them to fix up a nice trans am.
Honestly, shut the fuck up. That's sound reasoning even though they do something stupid anyway. Better to have nig-nog cars than another incident like dallas. Sorry for /pol/ level response.
>>15430295
a donk is more practical than the shitbox you posted. and they're probably not bitching about slammed aircooled on the corner waiting for crack deals

How tense does the alternator belt need to be and how can I make it tighter than what my strength allows me to, if needed
>>15430101
yo k se
>>15430101
most cars have an adjustment bolt to set tension. (loosen pivot bolt, losen lock bolt, turn adjustment bolt, tighten lock bolt, tighten pivot bolt) in older cars you need to use a prybar. (loosen pivot bolt, loosen lock bolt, place prybar between alternator and something solid, set tension, tighten lock bolt. tighten pivot bolt).
a belt tension gauge is preferred but you can use a straight edge across the two furthest pulleys and a ruler. the owners manual, service manual or google should tell you the correct measurement.
>>15430137
Wut? No
Most modern cars have spring loaded tension pulleys. There is no way to add more tension. The spring in the pulley sets the tension.

Essentially nails it. Find out the intervals to replace:
Fuel Filter
Transmission fluid (If you have an auto)
Gear oil (If you have a manual)
Differential Fluid

Does anyone on /o/ wear glasses or cotacts? I suppose it could help with driving. My left eye has gotten pretty bad that things are blurry but i dont want glasses or anything that will stop me from getting pussy. Anyone who says "glasses wont stop you from getting pussy," I will direct you to how women value power and presence, and someone with glasses cannot be a true chad. But aside from that, which many of you might not like. I am trying to figure out what to do
>>15429661
Just get a pair or prescription sunglasses for driving. Only problem is once you get used to them, your vision might seem worse without them.
Silly anon, the right glasses brings in classy pussy. The kinda pussy that acts good but is wild af.
Protip, is not the price of glasses but the fit and style.
>>15429661
I prefer my contacts for driving, even though they irritate my eyes a little bit, because they give me better peripheral vision and I can wear any shades I want. Also you're a cuck or getting hung up about glasses
Anyone on here tow a travel trailer around with a half ton pickup?
I own a paid for 2004 GMC Sierra SLT 1500 with a 5.3L Vortec and tow package. I'm thinking about buying a reasonably sized travel trailer next year, and am planning on using my current truck to pull it, and am wondering if anyone on here has some wisdom to impart on the subject, useful truck upgrades, stories, stuff like that (aside from buy a bigger truck).
Image relevant, but shamelessly cribbed from the Internet.
If it has the tow package, it should have a proper frame hitch, not just a shitty bumper hitch.
>>15429642
The 5.3 will tow it no problem.
The only way I would be worried is if you had a 4.8.
Towed a 23' travel trailer with a 4.6L F-150. (Trailer only weighs ~5000, tow capacity is ~6000).
Had a $500 hitch with all the antisway shit though.
>>15429778
It has the proper frame hitch reciever below the bumper. It can pull 7500 pounds according to the manual with the setup I have.
Which one?
This one
>>15429581
Whichever one is worth more so I can sell it and buy something that interests me.

I'm moving from Chicago (where I didn't need a car) down to Fort Myers, Florida for work and it looks like I'm going to need to purchase a car. I'd like to buy it down there (33908 area code) and I'm hoping to spend not much more than 15k. Is there any chance you guys would be willing to offer some advice on what cars I should be looking at?
I'm not overly concerned with how fast/powerful the car is. However, it is important to me that the car is at least somewhat aesthetically pleasing. I really don't like the modern "Soap Bar" look of many modern cars. I've read through a few similar threads to this and I loved some of suggestions for the older BMW's or Mercedes that were still "boxy" like the e38 750 in my pic (or the E39 540i, E46 330, Mercedes w126/w123 etc.)
I would stop my search right there, but I'm very wary to buy a car that would have such expensive upkeep for someone with little knowledge of how to fix cars themselves (mine pretty much extends to changing oil/tires.) I know that BMW's, especially ones over 10 years old, are notoriously expensive to fix. So perhaps that wouldn't be the best idea for someone who doesn't have a ton of money.
Realistically I'm not super picky, but I would like a reliable, cheap car that is at least nice to look at.
Other than that, I have a few preferences that might help lower things down as well:
- Leather interior is nice but not absolutely necessary
- Must be at least a 4 seater
- 4WD capability would be awesome in case I ever make it back to Chicago (but I completely get that it might not happen for this price.)
- Bluetooth capability would be awesome, but an aux input at the very least would be great too.
Any suggestions?
>>15429233
Also just to add one more thing:
- Automatic and Manual are both acceptable, but I would definitely prefer the latter if possible
>>15429233
Get the BMW of your dreams. The maintenance cost is exaggerated. Would you rather pay 800 bucks to replace the a/c compressor on a civic or 1000-1200 (guessing) to replace it on a BMW? The style and/or driving experience should be worth it.
>>15429342
Well that's certainly a pretty tempting option. But don't you think the 10-15 year old BMW would be much more likely to need expensive repairs than a 2-5 year old civic? Maybe not... I guess I have no idea if the build quality compensates for the BMW's age that much.

So I want a Kei truck.
In Ohio, they're licensed for road use, but only under 35MPH as farm equipment after being specially imported as such, and are licensed differently than regular trucks.
Anyone know what kind of a lawyer or legal expert i'd need to talk to about importing one straight up as a 25 year old+ car? I believe i'd be able to circumvent the farm-use clause if i imported one straight from japan, and not from a local farming equipment importer.
call up an importer in ontario
they know the usa laws
I have a real truck so I'm not sure on this, but aren't kei trucks highly unsafe for road use?
>>15429166
probably, but all the shit should be moot because motorcycles
