Does /o/ have a car that is mostly worthless but sentimental?

I was even offered 2500 for my shitbox explorer with 220k on it and refused.

Until a tree comes though my garage and takes it out or a woman drives into it on a day I take it out for a drive, I'll never get rid of it it.

My '99 Subaru looks like shit, is missing a whole host of trim pieces, the plastic trim is all falling off, no cup holders, hvac doesn't work, speedometer doesn't work, and the driver's seat is worn and the springs have long since given out

That being said, the engine works like a dream, the steering and handling is tight, and its done so much for me over the years that I just hate to see it go.

My insurance says that my car is totaled if it so much as touches another vehicle, but I keep driving it because she's my baby

Is she worth fixing, /o/? 130k miles, leaky value cover gasket, warped rotor, paint is flaking off everywhere, dented door and fender... It would take several thousand to bring her back to her former glory. Or I could just trade her in and get something more practical, like a civic. What do?

>>
If you really liked the car, than the decision would be made in a heartbeat, given that you have some sort of stable income. But since you're actually asking:

1990's civic.
>>
>>15432941
I absolutely love the car but I'm just afraid that as soon as i finish repairs, the engine will take a shit on me, given all the miles. I don't exactly make that much money.
>>
>>15432950
ugh. Just be sensible and get a jap-eco-shitbox. until you can afford and s2k again.
Or just leave the s2k sitting somewhere and buy a shit box, and repair it when you've got the monies.

As someone who's never driven a real performance car, what's the deal with all these videos of people sliding their new cars into telephone poles all the time? Are RWD V8s really that hard to drive or are these people retarded?

I've owned a couple RWD cars (Miata and W124) and even though it wasn't that hard to spin them I assume with a V8 you'd just be more careful with the gas.

no one can drive

I drove a big block El Camino when I was young and didnt crash
>>
>>15432700
They are harder to drive than RWD cars with less horsepower. You just need to be more careful like you said. With a Miata you can floor it at the wrong time and you might get a little wheel spin but nothing major. Try hitting the gas at the wrong time in a 500 hp RWD car and you can spin out fairly easily if you panic or don't know what you're doing. Most of the people you're talking about are retarded and trying to show off.
>>
>>15432700
They're retarded

They think they'll look cool doing a burnout, all fine
Then the car slides out in one direction, they countersteer
The car starts to pick up speed, so they let off with the front wheels still pointed towards a side of the road
This causes the car to jerk to one side
They overcorrect and crash
If they would just keep the throttle down they would be fine

So my Miata NA got rear-ended and totaled. Found a guy in town selling a clean 2000 Mustang GT at a good price.

Tell me /o/, just how much would I hate the handling and how much would I love the power?

So, I'm a car guy but I know shit about trucks. I am looking to buy a crew cab soon, but I'm feeling overwhelmed by all the different choices.

Between the 2013 F150, Silverado 1500, and RAM 1500, is there a clear winner?

I want something rugged and reliable. I don't care about speed or max towing capacity. I want a truck that I can pass down to my son in 20 years.

I don't want an Ecoboost, but is the regular v8 a better choice than flex fuel?

Any opinions would be appreciated. Right now I'm leaning towards a 5.0 F150.

A 1500 Silverado 5.3L will serve you well. It's by far the most reliable of all the available engines.
>>
>>15430747
as a major Ford fanboy, I won't disagree with this.

>>15430721
the 5.0L is no more reliable than the 3.5L Ecoboost. the thing is, for the most part the Ecoboost issues will present themselves relatively early whereas a bunch of people have been needing to put shortblocks in their 5.0 trucks due to excessive knocking/ticking at anywhere from 60-100k miles.

I worry about all the extra components involved with the turbocharger. I wanted something simple, I guess I just assumed the 5.0 was reliable though. Isn't it a Coyote motor?

Any opinions on the Ram? They seem to be the cheapest, while the Silverado seems pricey. It doesn't help that I'm looking for a 4x4 crew cab though.

What is /o/s opinion on Royal Purple?

Share tips and tricks that make working on cars easier.

>Use 1:1 mixture of acetone and ATF for penetrating oil
>Weld a nut on the head of a stripped bolt for easy removal
>Slide a pipe over the end of a ratchet for extra torque
>Gently tap a screwdriver through the side of a stuck oil filter
>Most screwdriver handles are 6 sided so you can fit a wrench on the end for greater torque

If I think of more I'll add

Make sure you replace your muffler bearings regularly

When welding, save time and money by squinting instead

Have a bolt stuck? Just snap it for a quick removal
Check engine light on? Just take a sharpie and colour over it. No one will ever know

Is your odometer too high? Just simply prop the car up on some jack stands, put it in reverse, and press the gas. The clicks will come down faster than you know it.

Really which I could have done that with my alternator bolt. It snapped flush with the head.
Guess I'm just going to have to move the damn thing to the other side of the fucking engine. 4,000 feet away from the battery.

Here's a tip..

Use GRADE 8 BOLTS OR ABOVE for fastening anything that will see any sort of load whatsoever.

I always assumed it'd be one of those tall boxy delivery vans (like FedEx or UPS use) with some fake commercial livery to look inconspicuous. No AWD, but they should be somewhat reliable since they're work vehicles.

Time for your daily dose of Crown Vic owner autism. Why do they do it? Why do they want to be cops so bad? Why do they stick heavy bullbars on their car that reduce MPGs and serve no purpose but to give the appearance of a police car?

Why do they insist on attaching antennas to their car that are entirely useless but give off the appearance of a cop?

Why do they insist they bought the car because >muh comfy but in reality they just want the authority on the road they've lacked their whole lives? It's clear as day I mean who would purposely cuck themselves to buying a barebones 4000 pound sedan that's underpowered, gets terrible fuel economy and is usually beat to shit and has hundreds of thousands of miles?
