I gave up on Mazda after they dropped the MS3. I was considering buying a Mazda3 if they came out with a new MS3, but I ended up buying a Focus ST instead.

My dad wants to get a new car, and he is deciding between a BMW 3 series, audi a4 or a5, or Lincoln MKZ

What is best, in terms of reliability?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Probably the bmw, depending on how many bells and whistles he gets. The Lincoln is almost definitely hit and miss, it might be alright, but nobody buys enough of them to know, and ford isn't exactly the highest on build quality and reliability.

Not sure about audi, everything I've heard says that it will be a shitbox that is in the shop most of the time, and I doubt they're anything special in terms of longevity. I don't really know though, the BMW is probably the safest bet, but they don't exactly have the best reputation (according to Americans anyway), and the other choices are in all honesty nightmares for reliability. Some faggot is going to reply to this trying to say how much he hates the BMW he can't afford (and therefore they're shit), but it kind of shits on the other options you've mentioned.

>What's the long term reliability on a brand new car?

Unless one of those is like the 4th year of a model, who the hell knows. BMW claims to engineer their cars to last 10 years or something without major service, but that seems like bullshit to me. I have no experience with them though, other than I liked the 1 series, but the stuff I read about their reliability made me reconsider.

VAG's car in general I would tend to avoid. I worked at one of the parts stores up until recently, and they always had super goofy things wrong with them that we couldn't get parts for. Now, the parts availability isn't the concern with the whole internet available to ship you what you want, but the fact that the shit kept happening is the real concern. That stuff had over 100k on it usually, though.

I don't know shit about Lincoln.
>>
>>15453921
I have no experience with any cars above, OP, that's a starting point.

Imo it's about the configuration. Does your father know, what he wants? Let's say he expects:
> a 2 liter turbo
> AWD
> heated F+R seats
> the best infotainment system available.
Look for their names for each of those cars and google that with "problem" or such and the latest model year. People tend to complain. Complain, even if it's something they don't know how to use/maintain it p r o p e r l y. Filter what's just a complaint and what seems to describe those cars downsides and then you got their images right. There are youtube channels describing things, like The Humble Mechanic tells how certain thing fails in exact VWs and similar. No one can remotely guarantee you anything and it's not that anything is meant to fail right after warranty expires. Current german cars can probably last over a decade without a single problem but only if you take their near no tolerances for service intervals and procedures.

I'd take a 6 cylinder AT BMW in black with the comfiest seats available and put an effort to read the manual thoroughly, then visit german forum motor talk (or whatever) for service advices.

Why did honda make both the integra and the prelude? They're both fwd coupes, why make almost identical, yet different type of car?

Integra was more track oriented, Prelude was more of a grand tourer. Plus Honda was swimming in money at the time and just having fun.

Is fully synthetic oil overkill for a Mazda 3?

>Engine has 80k miles
>90% city driving
>Cold winters, hot summers
>Drive relatively aggressively from time to time
>First gen Mazda 3
>Drive around 8k miles/year

I want this car to last long but I feel the Dino oil is enough for a relatively ancient engine like this one.
Will the engine "feel" better and have better fuel economy with a nicer oil?
20 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>15452802
yes it's overkill in the sense that your engine doesn't NEED it.
but it is better for the car and you'll make the extra $10 back several times over because it will SLIGHTLY improve your gas mileage.
>>
>>15452802
Just use synthetic. It probably came with that originally. I just used synthetic on my sister's first gen.

Hey, I'm really drawn between purchasing either a 2016 Mustang V8 or a 2016 BMW M4 F82. Which one is going to last me a longer time, be somewhat cost effective, a better drive and survive well through a Canadian winter. Any thoughts?

>>
>>15452638
If you're going to run it into the ground over a couple of decades, the Mustang. If you're just going to get rid of it in a few years then the BMW since it will still have some resale value.

Need some advice /o/, went to check out a car at dealer friday. Everything was cool but was not happy with the price, dealer wanted 5k, i offered 4k and they weren't having it, i said sorry this isn't going to work out shook managers hand and walked out. Had planned of going in today (sat) to offer 4.5k maybe even the 5k min they wanted. Called and asked if car is still available and salesguy said after i left somebody put 250 bucks down online to supposedly reserve it. That by tomorrow around noon i would get a call if it's still available, i really want the car now and would honestly pay the 5k min. My dad says if i really want the car to just show up when they open tomorrow with the 5k in hand and and offer it but i fear they will tell the other buyer how much i offered.Do they have to refuse until other guy checks it out first What do? I figure i could mention that if the other guy doesn't pay the 5k they wanted i would be there in 20min with the cash in hand

Dear /o/.
Yesterday I bought myself a 2008 HSV senator signature. It has gay wheels, a gay fiberglass walkinshaw scoop and an LS2 that the last owner said was dynoed at 320kw after a new exhaust and cold air intake. It's 6 speed automagic.

It cost me $25500, which I saved/sold some of my other cars for. All of my family and friends tell me I should have put that money down as a deposit on a house instead of wasting it on a car, but I can save up that money again in just over a year. I'm 25, single, renting a room in a house my best mate owns and never had a credit card or a loan or any other kind of finance. Are they right /o/? Did I just make a really dumb choice by buying a car when all of my friends are buying houses?

There's an A5 with a manual transmission for a really good price around me. But I'm wondering why it's gone on nearly a year unsold, why the price seems so good, and why they stopped making manual A5s.

Should I get it, or is there a problem with them?

Its not an S5.

Expensive to maintain.
Run the VIN
Expensive
More expensive
Have at least half of what the car is selling for for maintenance/repairs.
>>
>>15452514
It's certified with fewer than 5,000 miles, hopefully there isn't anything that needs repairing. I don't doubt it'll be expensive to maintain, but I can shoulder that.

Out of curiosity, would you say that it's expensive because it's not reliable, or because the parts themselves are expensive?

I drive a 2012 Toyota Highlander. I was pulling my debit card out at lunch today and accidentally dropped it between my center console and my seat. In the process of reaching down to get it it got shoved under the little slot at the bottom of the panel in the pic.

I initially thought I could just unscrew the panel from the back, peel it back enough to nab the card and then screw it back, but the portion of the plastic that my card slid under is a separate, solid piece witho it visible screws (the only screw I can see that might belong to it is blocked by the seat no matter how I raise or lower it.

Am I SOL and should just order another card or is there a solution that a super layman could do (or could a local garage do it for me?)

I'm at a loss here and I don't know if I should just cancel my card and get my bank to send me another (which will take a few weeks)

Please help

It's probably less effort to just deal with not having a card for a week and go to the bank to withdraw some daily-use cash than to spend your time prying at a piece of plastic.
