Just got word, my beloved VW is for all intents and purposes dead, repair will cost $3000+ on a car I spent barely 5k for. Previous owner was a fucking dipshit, put the wrong kind of coolant and I was a dumbass and didn't think to check, now my water pump is dead, my head has partially seized, and the timing belt which I replaced less than 20k miles ago is already FUBAR.
There should be a special license to own German cars that disallows people from going to fucking Jiffy Lube.

I am in the market for a new car and I want something that has a good tuner potential. I have been looking into the gti and I'm sort of leaning towards that. Other options include the new wrx, and the focus st. But I really enjoy the interior of the gti more than the wrx and the St is pretty slow even though it looks great.
BTW my budget is <30k

why don't you look for a 335i? those have as much tunability.. jb4 tune easily takes it up to 400hp, and its not FWD.
mk6's are okay. I hate the fact you literally can't turn off the traction control without taking out the fuse/relay for it. Then there's the typical vw rubberized finish that will bubble in about a year's time.

Undercarriage coating, clean the damn thing. Modern cars are usually very rusty resistant, I've seen someone not clean their car for a couple years and the result underneath was just spots of surface rust.
