Are classic Monte Carlos any good?
On my local Craigslist I see early 70s monte carlos in decent looking shape for pretty cheap. I have another car and truck, but I wanted to get something classic just to enjoy and drive semi-regularly.
Are they worth considering? A lot of other American cars from the era are expensive as fuck. Any options/trims I should keep an eye out for?
no buy a miata

Love or hate his work, you have to admit he's a master craftsman and builder.

>Stevie wonder welds better
He's the Marcel Duchamp of cars.
I learned a very important and painful lesson today - never reuse head bolts. I changed the head gasket on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 and reused the head bolt because it had a blown piston and I had to take the head off to replace it. Since it didn't overheat I figured reusing the head bolt would work fine.
Now there's coolant in the oil and I just wasted $20 worth of oil, along with a $30 head gasket, plus an entire day of pain and suffering once more to change it out in 110°F weather. :(
>>15566982
Hah! Or you just didn't torque them down in the correct order.
>>15566982
are you sure they didn't just get mixed in the disassembly process? I would expect a little to flow around when you removed the head.
>>15566997
>>15567013
Nope, I checked it multiple times and even did the head gasket change while the engine was pulled out so that it'd be easier to do. Compression was also checked before I ran the engine and it was good as well so I still can't figure out exactly what caused the head gasket to fail when I ran it. My theory so far is that somehow the bolts failed to hold the torque properly as the engine heated up.
>want to learn how to do some basic wrenching

>factory repair manual I printed out is intimidating
>don't want to break something and have no idea how to fix it
Should I just go to the dealerships/get a mechanic like every other normalfag? Not sure I would trust any with a 30 year old MR2.
Sorry, OP.
You just have to give up and sell your car.
sounds like your biggest problem is you.
faggot.
>>15566882
just take an auto class at your local community college, cheap af and educational
hey /o/, i've got a 2005 opel tigra twin top, lately a problem has crept up:
rarely, and i cant reproduce this, the idle rpm climbs say from the normal 700 to 900-1000, then back to 700, then back to 1000, then its stops. Maybe once a day or every other day.
Anyone's got a clue what it might be?
>>15566441
Are you running the AC excessively?
On my old Ranger that would cause the AC to climb like that occasionally
>>15566451
not AC, RPM*
>>15566441
What engine?
When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?
What cars and brands have a nice following/ownership culture?
>fiero
>nice following
thats why you shitbirds fill up mr2 threads with your chevette suspension garbage right?
>>15566412
anything japanese has a weeaboo cult dedicated to it
>>15566423
I just picked a random image in my folder, anon
thinking of turning a pic related into a shitbox
would a 91 dodge dynasty 3 speed auto have potential?
>shitbox
But that car's pretty nice.
>>15566349
It's a landbarge much like the Crown Victoria. The 3 speed automatics aren't known for strength but they're perfectly fine with the stock engines.
Potential for what?
>>15566438
But they are nice. Sure it's a landbarge, but landbarges are nice. Maximum comfy too.
On a related note, what's with all the Dodge Dynasty threads lately? I've seen 5 or 6 this past month and never seen one before.
Not so fast, Alphonse.
Don't fall for it Alphonse. It's just a distraction to give the assmad fangirls reprieve in other threads

S/o/, i was doing 90 on the highway and my car started making metallic noises and shit was just flying everywhere, towed her home and popped the hood, saw this. Is it fucked?
Nah just change the oil and you're good
>>15565869
What the fuck even is that?
Looks like Styrofoam, what kind of metal part breaks that easily?
Post whole under hood shot
Just bought e30 325i as my first car.
Any owners tips you guys could give?
Also, what does /o/ think about e30s

Swap in ecoboost instead
>old BMW as a first car
You already blew it
Been a long day so far, lots of nice cars setting down good times here at Laguna. Cool builds too, from stock to money pit. Self tech inspection is a hell of a thing.
