Hey /o/
I bought a used ls400 this time last year and have spent a ton on repairs. At my witts end.
First it was leaking a lot of oil so i had my uncles "good friend/trusty indie" mechanic seal it. the mech said there was a new timing belt and he didnt know why the previous owner didnt do this repair with that one. anyway
fast forward a couple months and the starter died.
Had it towed to him and he "fixed" it. on the way home the car died on a ramp, but fired up and I made it home. Car wouldn't start again, so it was towed back to him. Then it was "fixed"
when I picked it up the CEL light was on and I asked him what the deal was and it just said it's nothing to worry about
so I drove it for a while, no real complaints other than when i went to crank it, that squeal you get from trying to start a running car would happen at the key turn.
that slowly faded out. CEL is back on, the car idles in a sputtering manner unless I put it in neutral. sometimes when accelerating there's not much power/sputters and the CEL flashes.
it's leaking oil again and im just going to try to sell the damn thing for what I can get.
Headed to autozone to check out the codes but would love some suggestions on anything to buy while im there before I leave.
thank you!

Self preserving
It's a 25 year old car, of course it's gonna need repairs.
Never drove on a freeway/highway, and I won't anytime soon until I'm confident enough. The question is, has anyone here gotten over the fear of driving on the freeway? If so, how?
Just do it.
>>15570443
Yes.
I just went ahead and did it. Turns out, it's not an issue because there's no oncoming traffic and no sharp bends.
Have you tried not being a little pussy? Your 'anxiety disorder' is most likely you being too beta to do things.

Forgot to add I was pretty happy he didnt get accepted for the new Ford GT
We don't need more Ford videos
I want to learn how to drift, How would I best get started doing that? Are there classes, or should I learn from guides on the internet?
step one
get good at autox
autox is your first step

>>15570250
Drifting at auto x gets you kicked out here, hit some gravel roads op and just do what feels right ya learn best from doing
Why do I need 6 airbags and a million electronic nannies in my car if people are still allowed to drive motorcycles?
Welcome the redpill.

What do you mean?

Its a suppository
I don't mind driving automatics.
>>15570098
>drive manual
> live in a high traffic area
>wish I had an automatic
I didn't buy my car based on the 0-60 times or other bench racing specs.
>>15570098
That's not an unpopular opinion m8. I daily an auto and my fun cars are manual.
>I think the Miata is a shit car all around
>I think you're an idiot if you buy any low level new car
>Honda Civics are not performance cars and if you spend money modifying one then you have some sort of mental deficiency
>old luxobarges belong in the scrapyard
>if you make the excuse that you're too poor to afford any decent car (while claiming to be a car enthusiast) then you're a shit stain and should do one of two things: apply yourself or kill yourself
Is being an Uber driver worth it? Any stories from /o/'s Uber drivers?
>>15569919
uber driver from tacoland reporting in.
Yes it is worth it, but it depends on how you operate, when and where, since I live in the mother of shitholes called Mexico City I earn approx 532 dollars and that's working for about 1/3 of the entire goddamned day because I have to go to college and help my psychotic mother.
>>15569947
532 pesos or dollars, Pedro? If that's in dollars I might just consider it.
>>15569963
I said dollars, not tacos anon.
What do you think about the future of car standardisation?
Do you think in the future more parts of a car will become interchangeable?
For example, it astounds me that all car radios dont use ISO plugs, they all need a special breed, let alone using a standard din like the germans really tried to push.
The ability to plug and play different parts like lego from your local auto shop (or amazon) would be awesome
What do you think in the future will be standardised like an AR15 or gaming computer components
i like stock radios more.
but i wish they would standardize things like ease of headlight bulb changing. and things like trailer plugs. there are at least 3 different plugs in the usa
Infotainment and diagnostics are killing the dream. Ford runs a bunch of important cabin shit (radio, HVAC, diagnostics) through a brain called the APIM. They had to extend the warranties on a lot of cars on this part because it kept shitting the bed. The pinout is totally propietary. There's problems with standardization:
1) A standard pinout doesn't guarantee everything remains the same. For instance, cars with Ford's last gen infotainment system (MyFord touch) shipped with USB ports that supplied 500mA max power, while the newer version uses USB outs that can supply 1 amp or more. This applies to cars that ship with the older version.
2) Standardizing the pinout doesn't standardize sensors. Older cars especially won't have microphones already in.
3) Manufacturers have been moving towards dash pieces that are essentially un-replaceable. This means they get all the maintenance bucks, and when you want new features in a radio - you have to buy a new car.

I wish they standardised wheel pcds and centre bores
There are people browsing right now that will defend this.
>>15569898
Now I don't claim to be a rocket surgeon, but that looks fucking retarded. But if it puts down power and low times why not I guess.
>>15569898
Not the most well-engineered setup but it's cheap, simple and gives you all wheel independence.

>I don't know a single thing about chassis engineering but that looks bad for some reason!
Are there any cars with a satisfying door closing sound as well as a unlock/lock sound that is similar to a rifle loading than this G-Wagon?

W123 Benzes do this too
>>15569797
Volkswagens have a really nice and solid door close
ITT we post our cars or cars with headlights turned on. Preferably at night or inside
The mismatched color temperature still bothers me, but it's not that noticeable.

Sweet
THIS IS THE SEXIEST BEETLE I'VE EVER SEEN!!!
Which isn't saying much.
With that black fender trim and those headlights it looks like a Porsche fucked a MINI and then stole the fogs off of a Corolla
>>15569488
the first one was better.
why haven't you ceramic coated your headers yet?
>>15569481
I don't believe it'll make for any significant improvement on my 15 years old 1.6 shitbox.

>salesman is clueless
>tell him "hey man, this thing has a valve cover gasket leak, probably cost me a few hundred bucks to get fixed"
>offer $580 less than asking price
>they take it
>drop it off at an indy next Tuesday
>"well anon, in addition to the valve coverror gasket, your spark plugs and wires are fucked, you really should have those changed too"
>paid fuck all for the car itself so no problem, knew it would need something right away
>get the bill
>$561

Wow dude you managed to get 580 whole dollarydildos off a car at a dealer? You're a pro.
