Morning /o/

So yesterday I went and test drove a 2016 camaro and thought I'd share my thoughts and impressions with you

Keep in mind that the one I tested was the bottom line 2.0 and it was the 2lt, which is the "premium" trim level. The color scheme was identical to pic related too

First impressions when getting in
>cabin is quite narrow and beltline is pretty high, but nowhere near as bad as everyone makes it out to be. You can definitely see out the front and the sides
>material quality was actually pretty good.
>leather padded up on the door where you shoulder rests, leather wrapped dash and armrest. There were some hard plastics around the shifter, but that didn't bother me, since it's not a touch point
>rest of the cabin looks pretty good, but it might be a bit too much for some who prefer a simple cabin.
>the metal looking air vents that double as the temperature knob are actually plastic, which look good but feel a bit cheap when turning them.
>seats were very comfy. The leather was very soft and supple. I found them more comfortable and nicer than the optional real leather on a 3 series, which feels stiff and isn't nearly as soft.
>seat bolstering is too wide for an average build man. You can tell it was made so the fatter man can also be comfy.

In summary, it's a pretty nice cabin all around with decent materials. You can definitely tell where they cut corners, but still leaps and bound better than the previous model.

Now the driving impressions.

>clutch is very light but doesn't have much feel to it.
>shifter is surprisingly good. Short throw and notchy, but not too much.
>ride decently smooth over rough pavement
>cabin is very isolated from outside noise. I didn't hear the turbo at all with the windows closed, but as soon as I opened them, there was quite a bit of turbo whistle
>engine sounded like any generic turbo 4cyl
>car feels quite, but not fast by any means. Certainly quick enough for the average non enthusiast, but for a gearhead, it definitely leaves much to be desired (again, turbo 4 with 275hp, 300torques)
>when you step on the pedal, you get a good shove back, but it dies off in the upper revs
>the power felt linear for the most part, but you can tell there's more torque than hp
>still never thought visibility was an issue. No idea why journalists bitch so much about it.
>until
>when I went to park it
>holy shit you cannot see absolutely anything out the back.
>whoevendesignedthis.jpg
>thankfully the backup camera was really good. High definition imagery and the trajectory lines were stop on when turning the wheel.

Summary of driving impressions
>car is very smooth and comfortable
>seats were excellent aside from being too wide
>quick, but not fast
>no rear visibility whatsoever. Finally see why journalist slam it so much

Convince me NOT to buy a Miata/ MX-5.(NA/ NB or NC Models)
Give me the worst horror stories and real reasons not to buy one of these.

Sick of my old, slow 2004 Prius. I'd like to make a complete 180 and get a 2000 ford mustang convertible. I've never had a convertible before but I figured it'd be nice since I live on the coast in a beach town. The price of the mustang minus the cost of my trade in is going to be around $5000. Is it worth it?

I feel like my Prius is a ticking time bomb since I'll eventually get set with a $2-3,000 traction battery replacement. But with a Ford can I can get fixed from just about any mechanic.

Why? Too old? 75k miles on it vs my 200k Prius. What would you recommend for a fast 2-door automatic in the 5k range?
>>
how much does a replacment battery job cost if you were to DIY, ive been thinking about picking up a Prius, but like OP, im scared of the battery shitting itself.

my car is dying and i want to buy a used truck. i don't know anything about trucks. i just want one to haul my bikes. a second row of seats would be preferred but probably a lot more expensive. looking to spend around $9k or less.
what are some good models like this?

Diesel engines sans Cockstroke will last for longer than the actual truck. Buy one with a diesel and get the engine rebuilt and you won't have to worry about it.

All these brofags nowadays run the engines too hard so i wouldn't trust them.

i have a volvo s80 that wont start. the lights come on, but the engine cranks repeatedly when i try to turn it on.

the battery is a bit hidden, and i think it has one of its charging terminals apart from the it. what is the safest way to start this thing so i can drive it around to charge it?

im not in too much of an emergency so is there a way to just turn my car off, take the battery out and charge it from a wall socket?

>>
also im not just assuming that the problem does not lie elsewhere... i did leave one of my accessories on too long.
>>
>>15575021
>take the battery out and charge it from a wall socket?
You would need a trickle charger to do that.

Just bum a jump start.
>>
If the engine cranks, your battery is not the problem.

You obviously have charge.

Do you have fuel in your car?

Smell the exhaust after trying to start it, does it smell rich and petrolly?

Maybe a fuel pump is fucked, or your plugs are fouled, or anything else.

But your battery is not the problem.

Tell me /o/, what is the drivers license process like in your country/state? Is it difficult? Expensive?

If you are under 16 you have to pay a crap ton of money to get it and pass a bunch or tests and permits.
Me I just walked into the dmv at 19 and payed 34$ for the written test. And passed that. After you schedule your driving test for free and if you pass you get your license. So basically only 34$ to get it if your over 18 and like 300$ if your under 18

>get learners permit by passing a theoretical exam
>after three months, pay 39 euroshekles to attempt the driving exam
>have to take driving school if you fail two times
other than that it's piss cheap and in theory you could have a license for €56

This is Belgium by the way, most young drivers are absolute shit because only their parents taught them to drive, resulting in bad habits or just shit skills in general. They're going to make driving school mandatory some time in the future though.
>>
>Get a leaner's permit for like 40 euros because medical examination at 16
>get into driving school at like 17
>go through 55 hours and like 100+ euro worth of theoretical lectures from a licensed instructor
>Drive at least 14 hours(minimal limit) with a licensed driving instructor. (Mine took 15 euro for 1 and half hour)
>turn 18
>Pass a 30 question, maximum of 3 mistakes theoretical exam (14 euros)
>Pass a 2 figure (always parallel parking, and something else, like starting on a slope, or parking backwards into a garage, etc)
>Pass an about 40 minute driving on the road exam (40 euros)
>Pay 22 euros for your license
it's in Latvia. I got lucky, because my class is small and my school paid for us 10 who wanted the license. I only had to pay for the license and the tests. I drove the bare minimum and got everything on my first try, so paid like a bit over 100 euros all together. A lot of people get it on their second, or third try, so it adds up a lot.
Also, they will make it harder to get the license next year, raise the bare minimum of driving hours, etc. Shit's funny for me and i don't give a shit, since i got my license.

Motorcraft 5w30.jpg

Hey everyone, time to change my Oil again and I was wondering if we had any BITOG scholar or chemists on here. Basically, my car (2012 Ford DOHC V6) is spec'd to run semi-synthetic Motorcraft 5w20 for 10k OCI but I've been running full-Synthetic 0w20 for all 43k miles at around 5-7k OCI but did the full 10k this time with Royal Purple 0w20 (it was on clearance for $20 by accident and it has a lot of Molybdenum).

It's not a particularly smooth engine and I'm considering trying a 0w30 Oil, OR a 0w25 if 20 and 30 weight Oils WILL mix completely and make it 25 weight. I'm curious to see if a 0w30 oil will dampen vibrations a little bit or make it feel any different at all. My powertrain warranty is up, so that is a non-issue.

The same engine in a performance model, with the exact same block, oil pump, oil pan, filter, etc is also spec'd to run 20w50 oil so I can't imagine switching from the 20 weight to the 30 weight will be an issue at all. I'll probably do it anyway and might even use Motorcraft's 5w30 semi-syn to try it out. Is there anything in particular in the Additive Package I should look for to help keep Oil in the upper engine for frequent starts or additives that clean sludge? Is Molybdenum really a 'magic' additive to prevent wear and increase lubricity like some people swear by?

Anyway, I want to try 30 weight or 25 weight (if possible), and again, the exact same engine and every part in a different model is spec'd for 20w50 so I can't imagine any flow restrictions. Am I good to go?
31 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
It's not enough of a grade difference, and in hotter countries it's probably spec'd for 5w30

But running 5w30 when 0w20 has enough pressure and no consumption is silly. The thinner oil reduces temperatures with increased flow.
>>
>>15574929
I'm confused if your car is required to have 5w20 why are you putting 0w20 in it? You should be putting what Ford recommends. You're putting way to much into the oil change thought process. Buy some motocraft oil and filter and be done with it.
>>
>>15575010
5w or 0w is not important unless he's in canada.

>>
What is a tuneup exactly?
>>
>>15574859
Tune up is a bullshit term. It's so vague and everyone has a different idea of what should be done. To some, it's changing the oil and checking air pressure. To others, it's changing the plugs and wire sets, oil change, changing all filters, greasing everything, exorcising the idler pulley, re wrapping the wires on your alternator, rotating the tires, deep conditioning the leather on the steering wheel and running a head cleaning tape through their top of the line AM/FM cassette player because they can't hear the base using their aux cord adaptor.

Just keep yo shit together and change what needs to be changed before it's an issue.

semi-seriously considering this.
>non-turbo so it's slow as balls
I have a short (under five mile) commute off of freeways, and I don't drive much on the freeways anyway.
Otherwise, I'm fine budgeting more time to drive places and staying in the right lane.
>AC doesn't work
Not a huge deal to me, when it's hot I prefer to drive with the windows down anyway
>It's old/it'll need repairs/lol mercedes-benz
my budget's around 2k and I'm pretty poor so regardless of what I got I'd need to wrench on it myself anyway and cheap used cars are gonna need work no matter what.

Anything I should really be concerned about with this car?
Any huge reasons to avoid it?

The reason they keep saying that is because the Ford GT supercar, powered by a variant of the same engine, recently won its class at the 24 hours of lemans.

The Taurus SHO is a great car. It's a family sleeper sedan, but it's not the best thing humanity has produced. Still, they're very fast, and have been known to eat V8 Mustangs on occasions as a light snack.
