Are there any major manufacturers that still do 5v heads anymore or has everybody pretty much settled on 4?

Audi/VW seems to of given up on them, the 1st gen 2.0t 16v head outflows the 1.8t 20v head (The big port AEB one).

Apparently, if you believe John L. Lumley, the optimum valve arrangement is 1 intake, and 2 exhaust.

No idea about who makes a 5 valve head. But I think the chamber shape is pretty badly compromised, something about the squish being shit and poor combustion as a result.

This morning I was sifting Cracked for anything decent in the daily shit deposit, and found this. Seems like it'd be a neat idea. Modify Tesla's tech a bit, use suspension and brakes that aren't crap, maybe selectable AWD/RWD, and add a bunch more batteries, because these cars are seriously huge and who's going to complain about extra weight in a Charger?

It'd probably be a pretty great car in every respect, but the question is: would you actually want one?

itd be retard expensive

would be better to just convert existing Chargers

Cracked used to be my go-to source of morning bathroom entertainment. When did it all go so wrong?

Anyway, I could see this being a cool 1 off car, but more than that nah. Most Tesla cars are basically cars built around the technology, unlike this, so you would need Elon Musk himself to see if this would be a good platform for it or not.
And not I wouldn't want one, the sound of the 440 is the second best part about that car

So my porsche got rekt yesterday. I'm sure insurance is going to total it out. Just need some ideas about what to pick up next.

My budget is 28k or less (maybe go higher for something that's a really good deal. I don't want any American cars... yeah they are a good bang for the buck and they are fast. Not taking away from American cars but they are just not my style.

I really wanted to stay mid engine but most mid engine cars I like are too expensive.

Cars I've considered:

Nismo 370z
Porsche 911 (996 or 997)
Porsche boxster
R32 gtr
Maserati coupe (if I can find a modern one that cheap)
Rx7

Any other recommendations?

I'd recommend this as well, it'd be better than an equally priced 911, and is the better designed equivalent to the boxster

it doesn't really line up with the other cars you listed, but subaru wrx/sti

and I know you don't want an american car, but for anyone else shopping in this bracket
>c5 z06 w/ very low mileage and still some extra cash left

Lets assume protaganists car was a poorfag trim with 3-speed manual and I6.
Would it be so underpowered as be unable to stay in front of a truck with a load?

Just barely. Those old Valiants could barely reach 100mph. The Peterbilt in the movie was supposedly modified to hit the 90mph it did during filming.

You also have consider the state of mind of the character in that he had to either approach a very dangerous velocity and possibly end up crashing or get crushed down by some psycho with a CDL.

225 slant wouldn't 'fly' up the hill but it would climb it at the speed limit. At the same time, it might of been a 318 model which had more torque therefore better for climibing hills but the top speed was more or less the same to the 225. To add to this, the car in the movie was certified to be an automatic transmission

If you noticed too the speedometer needle only crawls up the gauges, he really was pushing it as far as it could go which is fuckall to todays standards

Would you rather have a more powerful trim with an automatic, or a less powerful trim with a manual?
20 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
More powerful usually means v6 vs i4

Would always take the v6 option no matter what because the i4 is in a boat
>>
>>15624443
Well there's the matter of things like the 300ZX or Supra, where the trims share identical engines, but the turbos are significantly more powerful.
>>
I like modern autos for a DD (unless it's a CVT) so of course I would take the higher trim

>buy G23 swapped 95 prelude
>fast as fuck, ready for boost
>turbo ordered, everything is in line
>parts all ordered for repaint and valve cover gasket just redone
>go to bro's house who I bought it from, it was his baby, planned on just giving it back to him once he was more financially stable
>kid is over who always talks about the cars he's worked on, all of that shit
>ok bro, just undo the oil pain drain bolt and we're good to swap the gasket
>he gets under, we go inside
>tells us the drain plug is stripped, it broke loose but just kept spinning, so he got it to a tight spot and put gasket sealer on it
>drive home, think nothing is amiss
>click click clack clack clack lifter noise everywhere, car looses at least half its horse power, any climb in RPM's and extreme lifter noise
>car dies on side of road before I can even cut the engine or register what's happening
>tow it back, drop oil pan

The kid couldn't get the bolt loose, so he used a breaker bar and was torquing it the wrong way, he actually snapped the welding off on the inside of the pan, and just stuck fucking gasket sealer on it. sucked it into my oil pump, destroyed the bearings

Well /o/, that was a fun 4 days that I owned that car. Should I order a new engine for $750 to at least make it driveable again? Anyone know if you can buy F22B blocks for cheap anywhere, or should I just order a new engine? We haven't even gotten to the bearings, but considering the oil pan was 1/4 full of bearings.. I'm thinking the engine is fucking toast.

Moral of the story, don't let retards touch your car.

>>
>>15624264
it is fucking real.

The kid is a total piece of shit. If he'd told us what happened, we would've immediately dropped the pan and just replaced it.

He's being such a piece of shit, that we had to hold his and this dads tools hostage, because he's refusing to do anything. Completely unrelated, but he broke some shit in my buddies home while drunk, and refused to be accountable for it.

Fucking asshole. I think I'm going to just have to return everything, pull the h23 head, hope it's not grenaded, and then buy a new engine for $750 bucks. At least the studs for the turbo are salvageable.

The shit part is that my buddy spent about $8,000 over 4 years, making $10 an hour with the help of a career mechanic, building everything and getting it ready for the turbo.

He just hit a bad luck string, so I was basically paid him $3,500 to help him out, and under the agreement that I'd turbo it and enjoy it, then just sell it back to him once he's more stable financially.

So, he fucking cried when he realized what happened, because now we basically have a prelude shell.

Pic is a stocker.
I'm in the market for another sports car (I own a 2011 Mustang 5.0 currently) and the 370z is a beautiful looking car and is very rarely seen and I've had my eye on it for a while. Me and my wife actually test drove a 350z before deciding on the stang back in 2010.

Long story short, I went on a 370z forum and Jesus Christ, 10ft high spoilers, "stance" where the freaking wheels are inverted, ugly aftermarket rims and paint jobs, etc. I mean WTF. I really didn't expect this kind of crowd. I know I can just keep it stock but wow! Big turn off seeing the majority of the community ricing the fuck out of these beauties.
