Well /o/, I'm fucking pissed...
After spending 1200 bucks on a compete engine rebuild for my 302, I've had complete exhaust valve failure after 3000 miles.
It's a 68' block with a stock rebuilt carb with a fully rebuilt c4 with 2.73 gears in my 70' mustang.
I drove the car from Toronto too Vancouver on what was supposed too be my dream road trip and after I hit Yellowstone everything went down hill (pun intended).
What the hell could have happened?
I was running 75 miles an hour most of the trip, running like 2800 rpms and the engine never once overheated or had oil pressure problems or anything...
I'm taking the rebuilder to small claims but before I do has anyone experienced this before? Was it the atituted? I leaned the carb out slightly above 5000 feet and get it back too normal at around 2000.
Any ideas?
By the time I reached the border I actually broke down and barely got too my destination...
>>15761627
Lower rpms like that or any altitude difference shouldn't fuck with valves at all, it bent/broke, came apart, what?
>>15761627
It's a Ford.
>>15761637
So I tested everything from the coil to the plugs (which looked normal) the wires ect but I did the "paper in tailpipe test" and both exhaust tips sucked in air...
I have an appointment with a mechanic who can properly diagnose the problem and get it down on paper but I built the car and I'm 80% sure it's the valves
Been looking for a used vehicle and these caught my eye due to their versarility.
Since they aren't in production is there a hipster tax?
Also any one know if they have expensive and common repairs?

They're pretty cool, so long as you get one with painted panels.
As to problems. The Element was based on the Honda CR-V, which was based on the seventh gen Civic, so any problems for those cars carry over... so watch out for wiring harness issues, and failing automatic transmissions.

i don't trust any German car driver in California. just saw a Gmerc the other day driven by kim joung and his wife, instead of Brittney from the valley

hey /o/
i drive a shitty L300 van, now of all the vans i have driven this one gets pushed around by the wind the most.
Would wider tyres help my situation? Currently on 175 R14
What else could I do to reduce the winds effect?

Ay matey pull down your main mast and rig up the Jib sails, that'll be the way of keeping her from floundering!

Yes.
Also, invest in putting in duallies.

You're going to need the extra saftey. The camaro can't turn so you'll be crashing constantly
Small overlap crashes scare me. A good reason to not sit so close to the steering wheel.

IIHS makes up a new bullshit test every few years. So that the majority of cars do poorly. Allowing insurance companies to justify rates and pay outs.
In 20 years cars will have to survive being run over by a tank. In order to get a good rating from the IIHS.

And by garage i mean tiny ass shed
>>15760891
not in my shed right now but i am working on my 2 wheeled machine(i will refrain from using the S_____R word, upsets too many bikefags)
as long as its got power,a vice and somewhere flat i can put a cup of tea down thats all i need.
the compressor is handy though, i bought it purely for spray painting but have since purchased a few air powered tools and a DA i'm particularly impressed with, saved me shit loads of time on the last paint job
Just got this garage a few days ago so i havent filled it with shit yet.
But right now its got a shitty plymouth breeze sitting in there that im waiting on parts to fix. namely a new fuel pump
>gf comes to my garage

Teach her, man. Patience. Having a girlfriend/wife is like having a 4 year old at times...you've just got to be patient.
>>15760901
I love her lots but she says dumb things sometimes kek
>>15760886
did metric not fit? Canadafag and i was a mechanic for many years, honestly i barely touched my imperial sockets. most of the time a metric one fit good enough even on old yankeebuckets

I was fortunate to never really have a bully.
There was one guy and his buddies in middle school who rustled my jimmies a lot. After I wrapped a cane around his neck, nobody really fucked with me for the rest of my public education. Got stepped to a few times, but then they would punk out before a fight would happen when they realized I wasn't as big a pussy as I looked.
Moral of the story: Sometimes aggravated assault is the answer.
What would cause my steering to become loose right after spinning in the rain?
It was raining and I was on the highway in fifth gear at 1/4 throttle when I went into an unprovoked spin during a small turn on the highway. 360 degrees and was lucky I didnt go off the road. Then I noticed the steering was loose. My wheels don't appear to be out of allignment and the steering is centered, there just seems to be more play on center.
Ball joint went bad maybe?
>>15760471
I think your tripping mate
>>15760514
Its been a few days and its definitly loose.
>car sometimes overheats on idle
>overheats when AC is on
>smell antifreeze whenever I stop, check under hood, antifreeze is sprayed all over the place
The fuck is this? It's on my stupid Subaru (boxer engine meme) and I suspect it's the water pump but I can't be sure because it's in the timing compartment and I don't wanna go all the way in there just to find out it's something else. I already changed the thermostat and it dindu shit.
>Subaru
oh boy what model? Cause if it's 2nd gen Outback, understand that many of us have dealt with the same head gasket leak while mean you'll be slowly leaking oil and gradually emptying your system of coolant. What i did with mine was to top-off the coolant every 7 weeks to keep up[ with the leak.
>>15760430
>what model?
Doesn't matter. Replacing head gasket is scheduled maintenance.
>>15760461
>Replacing head gasket is scheduled maintenance.
It really shouldn't be in any modern well-designed car. Not until the far side of 200K miles anyway.
