So I'm thinking about importing an older WRX to use as a year-round daily driver. Something around $6-7K would be nice. Anyway, I have some questions about the GC or "Classic" WRX generation. The Japanese versions of course.
>The GC WRX was the fastest generation right? It only weighs 2750lbs and makes 280PS stock.
>After 1996 the WRX got a power increase to 280PS. The STi is also rated at 280PS and appears to have the same engine model. What's the main advantage of the STi? I know they didn't even have DCCD until around 2003.
>Any particular year I should avoid? Any particular year I should look for?
>I've read some bad things about the model year 2000 Bugeyes. What exactly makes them bad?
>Just how shitty is the interior?
>Any random bits of information I should know?
Enjoy this weird 1992 WRX promo video:

suhhh duu
having owned a 2000 subaru GC8 2.5RS swapped STi here's what I can say
>lightest subaru chassis
>vast aftermarket
>swapping engines is as easy as a honda
>interior is alright, but you can modify it to your likings with "zealous interiors"
>Join rs25 for any more info
I had mine swapped to a closed-deck EJ20G it is unkillable, the stoutest of them all next to the highly expensive version 7 STi block from a bugeye STi.
it was the most fun I have ever had in a car.
I sure miss it.

interior updated in 98(?)
I like the older style interior personally.
The bugeyes have shitty transmissions the 5 speed
Almost bought a 96 GF8 wagon but before i got there the car got rear ended
Now that the dust has settled, what does /o/ think of the 2017 Toyota 86?
My dealership just got a few in for 26k
Ugly as shit front bumper, get the BRZ instead
I hate it. I didn't know such small styling changes could make a good looking car become an ugly motherfucker. BRZ had a much better looking update.
I've been told it doesn't feel like a 5hp boost as much as a 20hp boost.
Same with Lexus current design language, I can't really tell when I hate it or like it. They look great when they're moving but shit in photos. Pisses me off because I want the BRZ performance wheel package that are supposed to be a modern interpretation of the RS Watanabe wheels. Makes no sense Toyota can't get them, only the TRD wheels
How to let everyone know you're a subscriber pictured; I can't believe this tailgate made it to production

I assume it can be debadged? but yea, awful.

I see a couple every day on the commute and even though the driver's are both competent, their still God awful to look at

Head gasket failure, allowed compression gases to leak, eroded due to increase pressure from flowing into a small space.
Noob with engines but some mechanical sense here.
What would the symptoms be?
Could this have been avoided if PO had stopped driving immediately?
How expensive would it be to repair? The head has matching damage....
I have already swapped in a long block from a '82 but can't get her running right.... fucking CIS....
>>15948385
Get 'em milled. Not too expensive once they're apart.
So. Does the Fox Body GT count as a hot hatch? What prevents it from being one?
not ecoboost
Humor me here. It IS a hatchback.
a) It's a liftback coupe, not a compact hatchback.
b) It's fucking huge for non-American standards.
c) It's not the performance version of an economical car but a performance car in itself.
You wanna know what's an American hot hatch? Shelby GLHS.
You can only post in this thread if you own a real American luxury car.
>2008+ Buicks don't count
>Zeta/Alpha platform Cadillacs don't count
>LINCOLN CROSSOVERS DON'T COUNT
Naturally zero replies from the Toyota Yaris-leasing fuccbois on this board.
>>15948206
American luxury is an oxymoron.
More like American "puzzled together something from your everyman chassis, your go-to V8 and your general parts bin and slapped some extra chrome and fake wood on it".
how much do mechanics make? and how hard would it be to get a job if you've had formal training like a trade school?
Depends, independant shop, around $10/hr starting, dealership around $15/hr. Schooling will help get an interview.
>>15948214
since i just got out of high school was thinking something with trade school because i have 2 years free

Have you considered buying a Bedford Rascal instead?
>>15947846
As an 86 owner, get a Miata, the ND is a better all around car.
Only get the 86 if you just really need the hardtop

Hey rascal guy.

>>15947752
I personally love automatics.
Comfy as fuck
Plus 4cyl get good mpg and are easy to work on.

I drive a v8 auto. Do what you want to do.
Cars that look cool but have so many quirks, they could put you off buying them or driving them regularly
>battery is dead. cannot open door.
>slam doors to close them
>lever to open hood near left front wheel, no button or lever from inside
