What defines a "slushbox" and when did automatics stop being "slushboxes"?
>>16012924
Hydraulic shifting and never
>>16012928
I always hear slushbox more as a derogatory remark about older cars versus new rather than auto vs manual, though.
>>16012924
Slushbox is just normal auto like Mazdas although they are quite decent apparently. Other cars like Nissan use cvts which are only good for mpgs but in theory the the greatest transmissions. Some high end cars use DCT which is faster than manual. Others like gm use 6 billion speed slushbox.
>Driving on highway at night
>Cop with someone pulled over up ahead (you can see the lights a mile away)
>Would move over to the left lane but there's a retard in an SUV doing 100mph in a 65 coming up
>Right as said retard passes us the cop flies out after him
>See the SUV pulled over half a mile up the road
>gg license
I seriously have to ask, at what point did this seem like a good idea?
Going fast is fun, you retarded Pepe
>>16012938
Going fast when you see a cop up the road and not even bothering to slow down, though.
>>16012951
Probably drunk or incapable of giving a single shit.
Find me a cheap car. No price range. Can run and isn't a $1 price scam.

Why is my county so shit.
Car got broken into last night but it has no alarm, is there any after market alarm you lads recommend
Shotgun and Shepherd
>>16012907
Viper in the US. Cobra/Vodafone in the EU. Don't bother with anything other than ensuring immobilizer/chip key works properly and that it'll alert you if someone forced the hood/trunk/doors, shattered the glass, or towed your car. Alarms won't deter shit, no one gives a fuck that your shit is getting jacked other than you.
From there a good GPS tracking system will cover the remaining cases.
>>16012907
The best anti-theft system in the US.
Lets just hypothetically you woke up one day to someone knocking on your door. You go to the door and Jay Leno is standing their in his Denim suit with a S70/2 and transmission. He tells you that it is yours now but you cannot sell or trade it and you must use it yourself. What car / contraption would you put it into?

Ok 4chan, I need some feedback. What say you?
I'm down to two choices, an 02 Grand Cherokee Limited or an 05 Nissan Xterra. Mileage is around 130K for both.
The Jeep GC has a live axle in front which is better for off roading purposes, easier to lift, etc. It's cheaper (around 3.5K), but it's in worse condition and like all Cherokees it's unibody. Its already has a 2 inch lift on it, but will need paint tires and rims. It could also use seat covers and some interior work. The 4x4 system appears to be in good condition (its a Quadra Trac II). 4.7 V8 engine. Pic related.
The Nissan is in better shape inside and out, but more expensive (around 5.5K). It's body-on-frame, but the independent front suspension is both harder to lift and not as tough as a live axle. Paint is good, interior is ok. The plastic bumpers could use painting, but not bad. Push button 4x4 (bleh), V6 engine.
I do not have history on either one, both are at local mom-n-pop car lots.
Here is the Nissan
>>16012384
Get the Nissan. That GC sounds like it's already beat. Then go buy an XJ Jeep for an off roader

I don't usually come here, but I need your help.
My son is looking forward to his first car, and is suggesting a lot of different things.
He likes the look of classic cars, but I'm worried about safety (even though he is a safe driver) and cost.
Although he doesn't watch initial d, he also likes a lot of 80s and 90s japanese cars. He suggested a 1985 Nissan 300ZX Hatchback.
Money isn't too much of a problem (I make six figures), but I would like it to be less than $10,000.
A few main factors: safety, less than $10,000, automatic transmission, doesn't make my son look like a cringey faggot.
>automatic transmission
Are you raising him to be a cuck on purpose, or?
>>16012365
get your son a civic with a 5 speed
>automatic transmission
>doesnt make my son look like a cringy faggot
Make up your mind, m8
This thread might sound dumb but I mean this in the most honest way possible.
Will modern cars look dated within the next 10 years?
I know technology is always advancing and shit. But I mean can it get any better than how it is today without completely changing the design of cars?
In 10 years, will Porsches look like the shitty 2004 Porsches we think of today? Will Mercedes look like the shitty 2006 Mercedes we think of today? Pretty much almost all luxury car brands look like complete shit 10 years ago, but I honestly think in 10 years the 2016 cars will still look so good. Am I wrong, I'm sure they thought that in 2006 too?
2016 porsches wont look like how these porsches look now in 10 years.... r-r-r-right?

good question man! was wondering the same thing!

You
So angel and a demon walk up to you both making offers for your salvation/damnation.
Either way you can choose any car made between 1985-now, as long as it had more than 500 made. You cannot give away the car either, as it always finds it's way back to you. You can sell it, but see below.
The angel's offer
>unlimited mpgs
>car never needs maintenance
>car physically cannot be involved in a wreck
>car can only go as fast as your skill allows
>you have to regularly pray, go to church and commit good deeds
>if you sell the car you go blind and lose all feeling in your crotch
The demon's offer
>the car has no top speed, the harder you push it the faster it can go
>can handle any turn or drift as long as you can assert your willpower
>will occasionally try to kill you
>can use the souls of those you have defeated instead of fuel
>you will become addicted to driving it, favoring that experience beyond all others
>if you sell the car you instantly die
Which offer do you choose? Which car do you choose?

But I'm lazy
>>16011992
>>car physically cannot be involved in a wreck
how the fuck does this even work? Like, if I fall asleep at the wheel, do I still end up at my destination? world's most awesome autopilot?
Can I gun it at a brick wall and just teleport to the other side?
Or does the car just just kinda slow down and stop before getting in an accident, and other cars just happen to swerve away?
If the former, where do I sign up? Sure I'll pray all day long if I can do shit like Evel Knievel in my sleep.
>mfw one of you neckbeards repped WAT at twitchcon
also...where the fuck did he get the shirt from??

This is exactly how I thought the average /o/ poster looked.
>>16012049
maybe a bit fatter.
Bet this is the fucker that post about the GT and Lemans all day
Okay so I just got orders for CA
I am a Florida resident and still have 2 years left on my tags. I drive a 2009 Mustang GT with cams, longtubes and a cai. Is there any way to be able to drive this in CA without getting fucked? Will I get tickets? Do I have to register my car with CA or can I just leave it with FL registration and keep my mods? I have cats but they are aftermarket high flow cats.
>implying anyone follows the rules
It will pass smog at most shops, just go to a test only, they aren't going to bust your balls
The car can be registered in FL as lot as you remain a resident. So you can't be held accountable for the CA emissions and modification rules
t. Tennessee resident in Maryland, fuck emissions tests
