sadly most of them have and always will be irrelevant for the average user.
Why would I do that?

Hey /o/,
Today I got into a sort of ambiguous parking lot collision in a one-way strip of parking spaces on the side of the building I work at. Pic related. Green is my car, red is his. Blue is supposed to loosely represent my line of sight.
Basically, I saw dude coming, waited for him to pass, and then checked my other blind spot again to make sure there were no more cars coming before I backed out. However, just after he had passed me to where i had enough room to back out, he backed up to take a space that he had already passed.
Nothing like this has really ever happened to me before, so I'm not sure what my odds are really, I'm sort of guessing it's gonna be deemed my fault and i'll have to pay for the scratch just based on where the damage is on either of our cars, but I did find a few nuances I was wondering about when I looked through some fault-determination guidelines.
1. Is he technically going the wrong way by backing up (for a reason other than to pull out of a space) in a one way? I understand this would actually full on put him at fault, the ideal outcome for me since my car has significantly more damage than that prick's (although all that means is I have a dent and a bigger paint scratch).
2. Since we were both backing up, is it true that no one is at fault? I guess what I'm asking is that if any of you have been in an accident with this circumstance, did someone end up at fault anyway or was it upheld?
Finally, if you think I can make a decent case out of any of this, what would be the best way to report it? Also currently thinking about just trying to bluff the dude out of even attempting to get compensation. Thanks!
>>16188734
I personally think its the other guys fault cuz he backed up when he should have kept going. But ill be lurking to hear what others say.
>>16188853
OP here. I definitely agree but I'm curious to hear from people who have either studied accident law or have at least been in a similar accident.
After it happened I was pretty sure it was my fault so I just kinda went with it. But now the more I think about it I'm beginning to think he may actually have even legally been at fault.
>>16188734
It doesn't matter if he was backing up, that could have been a pedestrian or anything still coming.
So I've become very very interested in diesel powered motorcycles of late. Google turns up very little on them, and I'm very interested in acquiring one, or fitting a diesel engine to a gas model. I'm in the US, and it's already pretty damned hard to find an original diesel model anything for under $15,000, so the decision is leaning towards converting an existing frame to use a diesel. Google turns up little information about converting a gas cycle to diesel, or much info at all about diesel cycles in general.
So tell me /o/, how difficult from an engineering standpoint would it be to do the conversion, and fit a diesel to the chassis? I don't know much about motorcycles, or automotive mechanics for that matter, but how hard could it honestly be? I've got the time and intuition to learn and work at a slow pace. From a layman's viewpoint, the most difficult part seems to be finding a transmission that will work with it, since most motorcycles seem to have their current one built into the motor. I'm not really concerned with how fast the thing will be. I actually really like the advantages a diesel engine gives in the form of a motorcycle. I want to build it just because I can, and to see just how fuel efficient I can make it, while keeping it's top speed at around 75mph.

What would be some good places to start looking in America? I really do like the post-war aesthetic of Royal-Enfield bikes, and would like to find a similar chassis, or acquire an actual sommer chasis. Ultimately though, I'm just concerned about making a fully functioning product, and am willing to throw out all forms of aesthetic to make a working piece as my first venture. I'm thinking my total capital available to put into the project would be about $4,000-$6,000.
How feasible is this project with my budget and being located in the US? Where can I start looking for good models that are easy to convert over with my budget? What are some good resources I can use for learning more about converting a gas automobile to diesel?
>>16188587
Bike and general mech here.
Throwing engines not designed for motorcycles into motorcycles leads to bad motorcycles. I suggest hunting up a recent diesel military motorcycle. All your problems solved in a useful package.

from what I understand, not many of those were made, only around 500 were made, at least for the first order, and none have been ordered since 2010. I've seen them go for sale, but for astronomical amounts for what they are, like in the neighborhood of $10,000 dollars. Believe me, I'd love to outright buy an old Royal-Enfield, or one of the newer converted Royal-Enfields, or perhaps some decommissioned war-bike, but those are way out of my price-range. I wouldn't honestly be thinking about getting one at that price, since it defeats the purpose I originally set for acquiring one, learning a modicum about auto-mechanics and diesel mechanics, and creating a long-term fuel saver.
I here an issue diesels too large for the bike cause a lot of vibrations, loosening parts. But I'll state again, I'm not really concerned that it will create a motorcycle that isn't comparable in performance to other gasoline models. I'd just like it to perform reliably and efficiently as possible.
Looking to buy a Challenger.
Any version I should stay away from or somthing towards?
Can't afford a hellcat, and that would also be impractical.
Don't want base/sxt
Advice?
2015 had a major improvement to the interior and a responsive 8 speed automatic if you go that route. Pretty much newer the better on the latest gen. If Classic Challenger, 1970 and 71 are the most desirable. 73-74 are cheaper.

Yes, stay away from anything newer than 74

If you like the car and can comfortably afford it without regretting it, go for it. If you want to get more value for your money you can look at used cars. Whatever you chose, test drive it first obviously.

Fuck winter, it reminds me how much water leaks into this thing.
Really wish I could just gut the interior and go at the rust repair, challenging when it's your DD. Still debating on suspension parts to order as well.
>it's an 81 if anyone's curious
Not much going on with the caprice as of today and yesterday. Today I just hooked up everything on the engine. I did the hokey pokey with the passenger side header.
>put it on
>forgot to hook up starter, can't reach with header in the way
>take it off
>put it back on, have all the bolts in but one
>can't get the last bolt in without taking the others off
>take it off again
>put stubborn bolt on first
>have all bolts in but one, again
>this time a different bolt won't go in without taking the other bolts out and leaving the other stubborn bolt threaded in 1/4 of the way
>take it back off again
>correctly have all the bolts in, finally
in other words
>put the left bolt in
>took the left bolt out
>shook the header all about
Man fuck these cheap headers.

Does a check engine light mean I'll automatically fail my emissions test? I dont see many clear answers about it on google besides a couple people saying that the light itself wont cause it, but anything that would cause it to be on would fail it.
My car is giving a P2138 error code
P2138 throttle/pedal position sensor/switch D/E voltage correlation
I've noticed this while driving myself, but I cant afford to get any repairs and I won't be able to take my car in for months
Will this error automatically fail an emissions test?
>>16192040
Can't give a direct answer, so here's how it went recently for me.
Tester gave ok for everything else but error memory check failed and emission testing was not done. Repair shop used their own tester to check and the emission values were within limits. Had to replace thermostat to clear the code and redo the inspection. There was still another non-p code that was ignored. CEL was never on.
So it depends on whether the inspection will allow any p-codes to be present. My guess is it will bounce, but you probably should just call the inspection shop and ask about it.
Yes you will fail in CA or any other state that relies on monitors for post year 2000 cars
>>16192040
>Does a check engine light mean I'll automatically fail my emissions test? I
Depends on the state, but if it is a 1996 or newer vehicle, you will most assuredly fail.
