>WASHINGTON/DETROIT (Reuters) - A federal judge in Detroit sentenced former engineer James Liang to 40 months in prison on Friday for his role in Volkswagen AG’s (VOWG_p.DE) multiyear scheme to sell diesel cars that generated more pollution than U.S. clean air rules allowed.
>Liang was part of a long-term conspiracy that perpetrated a “stunning fraud on the American consumer,” Cox said, as the defendant’s family looked on in the courtroom. “This is a very serious and troubling crime against our economic system.”
>Volkswagen has admitted that it used software to deceive regulators in the United States and Europe from 2006 to 2015.
>The ruse allowed the automaker to sell diesel-equipped cars and sport utilities without installing emissions control systems that could have compromised performance or posed an inconvenience to customers, prosecutors charged.

How bad are RX-8's for modding?
Was thinking about getting one and turboing it cause they're cheap and plentiful where I live but I've heard conflicting stories.
Whats the skinny /o/?
>dude imma turbo it despite doing fuckall research about even the stock Renesis
You will be the cause of another dead RX8.
Get a 2009 and up RX8
that's it
>>17778561
ever thought its cheap for a reason?
Hey /o/, my coolant is rusty as shit. Engine is 4AGE. People use as sorts of stuff like vinegar and dishsoap to flush the system with, but I read that there are risks with using vinegar for example. What is a good reliable way to flush the system without having to buy expensive radiator cleaners? The thing with rust is that one flush doesn't get it all out, no matter how thorough it is.

Do multiple passes, it's not like coolant is expensive.
Uh yeah so I did an oil change on my Boxster and finally got around to emptying the catch pan.
Which level of fucked am I?
>not at all, put it back on next oil change
>your gonna have to do another oil change now (could I just pour the same oil right back in because its new?)
>its totally fucking fucked
I've been commuting with it and also driving it at full temp/high revs without seeing any leaks so I'm hoping for options one or two, if any of you know what you're talking about please help me.
>>17778494
what is that round thing? maybe the drain plug gasket?
>>17778506
I think so
>>17778494
That doesn't look like much oil, so I presume you've been driving low for a while.First I would look for somewhere it could have leaked from. Then I would fill it up, start car, check for leaks, watch oil pressure. Check coolant so see if oil is in it, then after running see if your new oil gets coolant in it. If everything seems ok(fluids maintaining correct level, not intermixing, engine running ok, oil pressure ok, not overheating), I would drive it and assume that I have probably caused a shitload of wear to my engine in a small amount of time. I would also be paranoid as fuck.
Absolute noob here. Posted a while back about my NX2000. The engine in my NX2000 had a rod blown through it. I'm looking at swapping an SR20DET from an s13 240sx. However, there is almost no info on this swap on the web. The only swap that I could find that had a lot of info was the gtir swap. However, 240sx parts are much more available. I just want to know if the 240sx swap is even feasible. /o/ please guide me!
P.S. I was also looking at a VG30DETT from a 300zx.
You'd be better off finding an SR20DE from like an Almera N12 or something like that and turboing that and putting it in the NX
Bumping for OP
I'm curious about this too

and by N12 I mean N15 sorry I'm high

Would you guys be OK with a smaller displacement, turbocharged V8s in future muscle cars? The Mercedes' 4.0 V8 sounds pretty damn good for a turbo engine desu, I think it would be fine (pic unrelated).
>>17778180
i want v12 biturbo e class desu
>>17778180
>turbo
Yes
>smaller displacement
Fuck right off.
The only muscle car in production right now is the Challenger, and it deserves a 426ci twinturbo V8. I was already pissed when they downsized the Hellcat from 392ci to some metric bullshit number ''because reliability'', as if that's an FCA hallmark.
>>17778180
I'd rather have a superior twin screw turbo instead of tiny weak fart spinners. No additional tubing, no obnoxious blow off valves, EGR wizardry.

Do you have an automotive blog? Can we have an auto blog thread? I want to find fresh bloggers to read content from. Been looking into this for a while and all the places I've been going has gotten stagnant.
Anyone care to post their links? Give us a rundown of what you blog about, too. Anything and everything is allowed as long as it is about/with vehicles.

Are emissions laws more good than harm?
I'm a libertarian and I see where emissions laws do more harm than good, for example ethanol in gasoline or complex exhaust recirculation systems mandatory on every vehicle.
But at the same time the smell of diesel on a highway can be just too much for me.
>>17777575
In the long run things have to change. No new ICE cars will be produced 100 years from now.
But right now, I don't care.
We should be focusing on finding new planets to inhabit, not trying to save one planet that will die one day. That's why I think all this green push is useless. The amount of money we waste to prolong life on this planet could help us kickstart life on many different planets.
