Is there any car in the UK thats somewhat cheap to insure AND actually worth owning?
Pic unrelated, costs about 2.5k with a black box

Fuck that black box shit, glad i left the UK

Look at classic car insurance if your good with a wrench.

Other then that you'll have to bit the bullet

Stop being 18.
You can literally insure anything under 1 grand if you're 21+ and have a year or two of NCBs.

I saw a corvette that was all riced out yesterday and it had the license plate ZZZZZZZ. How the hell did he get that? When I look online all the cool edgy plates are already taken.
What are some cool or edgy plates you've seen? Do you have a custom plate?

I had a bunch of 1's and l's on my first car that I wanted a vanity on.

It was 1l1ll11

They use lower case L's on US license plates

The only reason I did it, is to make it hard to read for the police/someone telling on me
>>
>>16192631
>>16192682
just wait until license plate readers become standard and all those edgy plates are rendered as conspicuous as PULL OVR
>>
>>16192702
You can't pull people over in the US because their STATE ISSUED license plate is "conspicuous".

Also license plate readers are even in use in some of the poorest police departments. It's not like they don't get hundreds of thousands in grants from the state every year to buy cool gadgets

Idk how it works in britbongistan

Why German cars are so unreliable? Is it the overengineering?
9 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Overengineering doesn't refer to complexity, it refers to how strong the components are compared to how stressed the engine is.

For example, a 2JZ isn't a that high tech, but extremely overengineered. It runs around 300HP stock but you can double that to 600HP without touching the internals and it will still run with little issue.

German engines are overcomplicated and weak.

>German engines are overcomplicated and weak.

But why? They have the knowledge and tradition to make great cars but what I see in the past years is, that BMWs for example, are falling apart when they reach 150k kilometers which I find unacceptable.

Btw I'm not a German car hater and I never owned one but I'm curious.
>>
>>16178015
They're working on the same strategy that American automakers have for a while now: build pretty, but unreliable cars to save on R&D costs and make cash back through certified mechanics. Most Bimmers, Mercs, and Audis just weren't made to be driven past 130k kilometers.

But at least with American cars they're dirt simple and cheap to fix most of the time.

How can you get salt stains like this out of your cars factory rug.

When I bought it last year the previous owner (a woman of course) never used rubber floor mats for 2 years
This isn't my pic, but the salt stains are similar. I just don't feel like getting up and going outside ride now.

Potentially useless question:

Consider two identical engines. However, one makes peak power at 6000RPM and redlines there. The other makes peak power at 10000RPM, also at redline. Their powerband is exactly alike, it's just that the latter engine's powerband is longer.

If you were to turbocharge them both with an identical turbo, which would build boost first, relative to their peak power/redline?
19 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
6000rpm because it is pushing more exhaust volume per rpm if it makes the same power as the 10k engine
>>
>>16203455
Say the 6000 RPM engine makes boost at 50% - so 3000RPM.

Wouldn't the 10K RPM engine make the exact same exhaust volume at it's 50%, so 5K RPM?
>>
I think it might be the 10k one, because its likely to be less efficient and thus have more exhaust volume for the same power

You can probably LS swap it.

No, YOU probably can't. Because they aren't fast to begin with and whatever bolt ons and assorted shit you're going to do isn't going to do much. Now if you actually had alot of cash you could.

If automatics are slower because of wider ratios

Unless it's a double clutch gearbox, a human with a single clutch manual transmission will be able to shift faster than a traditional torque converter automatic.

Hi Guys I am considering ordering a full size range rover for my family. It is so expensive. Any suggestions? It has a good reputation but I think it is ugly as fuck personally. Is it worth the money?

It's very luxurious, very comfortable and very good off-road. It's also very very very expensive, both to buy and to keep running.

Looking to get a '99 Cherokee. Are they good vehicles? I've just always liked the way they look and I'm pretty broke (have about $3k to spend.) I live a pretty /out/ lifestyle, never get snow where I live, just want something that I can throw anything in the back of, toss kayaks onto, chuck my shepherd in the back and hit the trails. Needs to be reliable enough to be my daily.

Are there better options?

What have you done to your car recently /o/?

>took apart my entire front end

>wire brushed all rusted metal
>repainted all the rusted parts of chassis with flat black rust paint
>meticulously picked rocks and bugs out of rad and intercooler with a tiny flat screwdriver, also gently pushed bent fins back into position
>cleaned out blowby oil from intake
>ran seafoam through intake
>sprayed WD40 on everything that needs it
