How many of you have actually read your car's owner's manual? I'm reading through mine cuz new car. You'd be surprised how many little tips and tricks are in there.
I like to read them on the shitter
My car has pretty much absolutely no functions or extra equipment
The only "useful" thing are the different bulbs, greasing guides & schedules, oil capacity and such

I want to keep a small vacuum in my trunk so I can stop paying 75 cents for 5 minutes of vacuum time down at the Shell station every Saturday to clean my car. Anyone else do this?
Any vacuum/brand suggestions welcome, but also curious what other car accessories /o/ deems necessary.
>besides black ice.
Get a $50 shopvac on amazon. It's insanely overpowered for the price. The motor also doubles as a blower if you want it to. Shit is nuts
Why would you keep the vacuum in your trunk?
Why not in your fucking house and then clean your car when you're home?
I have a rechargeable hand vac mounted to my garage wall for little quick shit. Works the charm.
The Shop Vac QSP2 comes out for "goddamnit" jobs.

If this was California I'd bet the drivers were a bunch of liberals who were too busy crying over the fact that trump won
But it's in Kansas
So I don't know what the fuck happened

Ask your dumb questions here
Mine is a question about the dodge stratus; guy has one listed and says it's awd, I'm 99% certain it's a fwd car, and I can't find anything saying otherwise. Is the guy just retarded, or am I?
Picture unrelated but a e s t h i c
FWD. People not even knowing what drivetrain they have is why I won't touch Craigslist.
Guys i'm a little scared. Over the course of the week, i've witnessed two different soccer moms take a picture of my license plate at a stop light. I dont drive too fast so why the fuck are they doing this?
Afaik, they were all FWD as they left the showroom. Since some of them were based on the Mitsu Eclipse platform I've heard of people doing the AWD conversion using Mitsu parts.
I'd avoid unless I knew the guy who did the conversion was a professional. It would suck to drop a rear propshaft while going down the highway.
Redpill me on dashcams /o/tists, are they a meme? I just spent 300 dollars on one.

Good if you don't live in a no fault state or you want to make a couple bucks selling grisly car crash footage to the local news

Topkek! I see you have fallen for the merchants tricks! They are a shifty people that make their living on gullable goyms. I would not use it, as you will only be datamining on their behalf.

Which is the absolute best brand oil? Highest quality for racing and abuse, that is. I've been told it's pic related but I want to be sure before I make the switch to full synthetic.
Pennzoil platinum
>nuff said
>>16235974
I buy this oil and my high mileage shitbox loves me for it
Pic unrelated, right OP?
Shell Rotella, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and Castrol Edge.
if i took care of my car how long can i expect it to last?
i have a 2013 honda fit and its got about 53k on it right now. if i did everything possible to keep it in the best condition, how many miles can i pack onto it before i run into problems?
and when i did run into problems, whats the first thing that im probably going to notice falling apart?
>>16275526
cars are infinitely rebuildable excluding accidents. it will last as long as you keep fixing it
>>16275544
alright
when can i expect more expensive parts of my car to start failing. like the engine, or the transmission. or the wiper blades
>>16275554
If you keep the oil and coolant changed and the transmission fluid changed they'll last forever. But even if those failed you should fix it because it's cheaper than a down payment on a new appliance.

I live in fucking houston. Keeping a car low is just asking for punishment.

Anybody here ever built a wiring harness for a car? Friend and I plan on building a wiring harness to put a silvertop 20V 4AGE into a FX16 (AE82) shell.
Any tips you can give? Resources? General guides
The harness that's on the engine now is kind of incomplete. I think we might need to build an engine harness. We have all of the connectors at least as well as the ecu. The body harness on the chassis is complete however.
solder and heatshrink is your friend
Bump
If anybody knows of a general overview of the process that would be cool

I can't help you, but I would like you to know that you are living my dream.

marvel mystery oil. have you heard of this stuff guys?
its supposed to clean out your engine and fuel systems. it claims to give better performance and gas mileage. i bought a small jug of it for just under 5 bucks and i been giving my gas tank just under 4 oz per fill up. so far im getting like 42 highway and 37 city in my honda fit. but ive always had milage just about that good
what about other things like it like lucas upper cylinder lube? you guys know anything or use these things?
It does something. These products always work in theory and under lab studies but the actual effect on the road is arguable. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for something like Marvel Mystery Oil or some upper cylinder lubricants but I can't really say what it does.
Don't add too much of anything though, many states allow as much as 15% ethanol in gas, keep adding all this other shit and you might start to chug along. Also MMO goes in the engine oil as well so there's that.
honestly, i don't think it does much if you run it through the fuel system. I have had it work to degunk things in the engine. Mostly on variable valve timing systems where they have a sticking actuator.
Tests were done using these fluids on injectors. I guess they had a device that measures the efficiency of the injectors and they compared before and after. Basically these meme additives showed a 1/600thincrease in efficiency of the injectors which is basically nnothung as this is within the margin of error of just testing. So this shit is useless for any kind of "fuel system degunking"
Go WOT frequently or use ultrasonic cleaners. Don't waste money on that snake oil
What would happen if the USA scrapped their Federal Fleet Emissions Standards? Would California's emissions standards basically take over?
>>16274421
California's standards already control the market.
Since there are 38 million people in that state. They have to make everything comply with them.
I think emissions should be done more like europe.
you get taxed based on what your car emits. If you don't want to pay so much fucking tax. you get a car that emits less.
>>16274444
Then why bother with the Federal Fleet Emission standards? They just force the cost of dealing with emissions requirements on all cars made by the manufacturer instead of just specific requirements.
>>16274421
>What would happen
The U.S. economy would skyrocket like the 1950's and beautiful cars would return.
Can get them down to 10k, less than 2000 miles on it with the 2.4 engine. Thoughts or warnings?
>>16274356
Why not a 3k civic?
>>16274356

VW is going to give me about 23k for my 2013 Golf TDI with about 60k miles on it. Figure I should take advantage and get myself something newer. Should I be boring and buy a 2017 Mazda3 Hatchback Grand Touring or more adventurous and get something with more kick? Have my eye on a 2016 Dodge Charger RT with 10k miles on it that's priced at 25k. I'm also open to other recommendations that I should look into in this price range.
>>16274123
23k in cash? Why not trade in for a luxury VW?
Get a CTS
Newer chargers are pretty fucking good; if you want an automatic, RWD, comfy, powerful landbarge I'd go with that. Would recommend an N55 335i if you have 25k~ish to spend and want manual, though.
Pic related with 111k miles for $3,400
Should I?
