In a year or two, when I'm more financially stable, I'd like to buy a new Tacoma, but in the meantime I need a vehicle that will be reliable and won't depreciate much as I put on about 15000 miles of mostly city driving a year. Which of the following is my best option
>new focus for $14k(pic related)
>2013 Camry 18k miles for $15k
>2011 Frontier with 140k for $11k
>just get the new Tacoma now for $33k
I like to get /out/ with a canoe but I think I can make due with any of these. Open to other options too
Option 2: Camry
>low depreciation
>new car

Is it legal for an auto dealership to obtain a pre-qualification in your name?
Backstory: I previously contacted them for viewing a vehicle but changed my mind. Now they won't leave me the fuck alone.
I know it's not the same as getting a pre-approval but won't they still be pulling my credit? How fucked am I? I haven't given them any info so I am assuming it's all just b.s. to try to get me to respond.

This is basically what email says:
Based on the information you have provided me, I have obtained a loan pre-qualification in your name for one of our finance programs.
>>16345748
Check credit karma to see if there was a pull. It's probably just a scam to get your money
>>16345748
they're probably trying to fearmonger you into buying something.
If you didn't sign anything I don't think the dealer can legally do shit to force you into buying a car.

Doing a timing belt service tonight for the first time. Engine is a d17a2 in a 2002 civic. Any tips to keep me from bending the valves? Just want to get it right.
>>16345568
Why would you do this yourself? Pay the 450-600 and let the dealer do it.
>>16345568
Mark everything and triple check it before reassembly. If it's any consolation you would have to goof pretty badly to have piston to valve contact. A tooth or two off and worst case scenario the engine would run like shit.
>>16345568
If the cam pulley and crank pulley aren't marked, mark them before you pull the belt.
that's all.

What does /o/ think of the Olds 88?
>>1634551
Anything with the Buick 3800 is fine by me. Although the later 98 with the S/C is the best of the last Olds.

What does this mean? And what is the name of that little cap it seems to be leaking from? Is it safe to drive?
My car recently overheated and I thought it was the hoses that were leaking. And maybe they are, but this morning I filled the coolant tank and radiator with distilled water til I got it to my brother's house so he could replace the hoses. But now I'm now sure I can even drive there or if it's even worth fixing. Is my engine fucked?
>>16344476
Thats one of the valve cover bolts ya dingus...the little bit of leakage means that the rubber gasket/flange for that bolt is cracked...
Just replace them, torque to spec...
>>16344514
Yep just swap that. Pretty easy. It's basically a washer with a gasket on it. If your car is overheating that could be a different issue completely though. What's the coolant doing? I have a D16 as well and my coolant kept getting pushed into the overflow bottle from exhaust gases. Had to replace the head gasket.
>>16344514
Thanks. My brother said it didn't seem to be anything to really worry about since the oil has stayed at the same level. But I think I'll replace that since it seems like an easy fix anyway. He just switched out the thermostat because apparently it was just steam making it look like the hose was leaking. Seems to be good so far but haven't filled it with coolant yet just in case it does leak.

I've never leased a car in my entire life. At the age of 32, I've financed four cars and paid cash for one. When would it ever be a good idea to lease a car? I'm looking at all of these holiday "sales" and they offer really low payments but you have to have to put something like 2k down to get that offer. So, you are paying 2k dollars and basically renting a car for 3 years from the dealer including a monthly fee. This sounds really fucking stupid but with how often you see these lease deals, leasing must be fairly popular I assume.
It kind of bugs me that I have to hear "Toyotathon is on!" every day on TV.
I wish local dealerships would just have normal commercials with no specials. It makes the specials look pointless.

>Can you help me be an adult?

>leasing must be fairly popular I assume.
Yes. It's nice not having to worry about, preventative maintenance, maintenance or taking care of it in general. You drive the shit out of it and give it back and repeat. And let's face it, modern cars aren't exactly built to last. You're going to loose money either way.
Even if you go the used $15k 15 year old Toyota meme route, your're going to be fucked when the car shits it's transmission and you're out $3500 and a car for 2 weeks.
anyone know what grade of steel is used in husky wrenches?
pic unrelated
>>16342919
tool steel
not totally sure tool steel is graded like bolts are. you're kind of asking if its grade 8 equalivent?
>>16342931
bolts are alloys and tougher, less hard, more ductile, and probably higher yield. you'd have to look up the tensile specs and know what steel your tool was, which I cannot say.
why what are you doing.
